Aldara for common warts

Common Questions and Answers about Aldara for common warts

aldara

Avatar n tn After using Aldara for 8 weeks or so the warts went away and my doctor said that they were gone and I could stop using Aldara. About a week ago I noticed that two warts were back and my doctor said to continue use of Aldara. I was wondering how long Aldara takes to get rid of warts and when they do go away, how often may the warts reappear?
Avatar f tn I'm not sure why you were given aldara for pinched skin. it's a treatment for genital warts and molluscum. Aldara is very irritating to the genital skin. It's very common for the symptoms you've described to occur. ruling out herpes is never a bad idea but odds are it's due to the aldara. I'd get a 2nd opinion on the area you were using the aldara on and not continue using it until you get a better diagnosis than what you were evidently given the first time.
Avatar f tn I thought that just meant that it was working, so I was off it for a day and went back on it for 2. It happened again, so I went off it for 2 days. Then I went back on it and tried to stay on it, hoping that the cream would help somehow, and the sores just kept getting bigger. I had serious flu-like symptoms, with fever, chills, migranes, muscle pains, the works. Now that I am off aldara, I have less of the flu like symptoms, but I have quarter sized lesions on my vagina.
Avatar m tn The skin on the head of the penis likely was in contact with the area where the aldara was applied and would have been in contact with it for some hours at night. Anyone know if this is a common reaction for aldara. Its similar but different to a cold sore that one gets on your lip.
Avatar n tn I really dont understand it, but evidently the bad cells are thru 3 layers of the vaginal wall. My dr prescribed Aldara vaginally, twice a week for 12 weeks. I've had my 4th treatment, and I'm not having fun. Within 24 hours after teatment I am crying in pain, muscle aches, joint pain, my skin over my whole body hurts. I also have vaginal itching, burning, but its not that bad. I also am having nausea, with upset stomach and vomiting. About 48 hours after the treatment, i begin to feel better.
Avatar f tn The cause of gential warts is a low risk strain of HPV. There are more than one strain that can cause warts, there are also high risk strains that can cause cell changes. In total there are almost 40 gential strains of HPV, in total there are almost 200 HPV's. HPV is very common and almost all sexually active adults will have some of the strains in there lifetime. Once we get a strain we have it the rest of our life. We can have one or many strains.
Avatar m tn Aldara causing sores (ulcers) is actually a relatively normal response. It's even common for those undergoing treatment with Aldara to be misdiagnosed with herpes when they have these sores! I'd skip an application or two and then return to treatment. Just use a q-tip to apply the medicine, and put Vaseline around the normal skin to protect it. Also, perhaps don't use as much and leave it on for 6-8 hours opposed to 10. This might help.
Avatar n tn Whatever treatment is used - imiquimod (Aldara), podofilox (Condylox), freezing, trichloroacetic acid, and others - it is common for warts to respond initially and then become resistant. Overall, Aldara is effective in eradicating warts about 60-70% of the time. Check with the provider who prescribed your treatment; the first thing is to be certain you really have persistent wart tissue and not just a heaped up scar. But assuming it's a wart, you'll need to try one of the other treatments.
Avatar m tn I have only used it for three applications and I have seen zero effects - as if I had never started using it. I have read that Aldara doesn't work for everyone, especially males... but I would like to know if anybody has had any success stories without unpleasent side effects? I'm sure I could just apply it for the next 3 months, but I'd like to have a little bit of hope because right now I'd be happy with pain, redness, and itchiness, so long as the warts were being destroyed.
Avatar n tn Hi. I've had visible warts for almost 2 years now. The first medicine I tried was Aldara, when they first started showing up. All the Aldara served to do was eat apart my skin, scar my scrotum, and generally hurt really bad. I don't think even one wart disappeared in that time. Since then I've tried many "herbal" remedies and have had success with none of them. The only thing that seems to work is ripping the warts off myself, which was painful at first but works fairly well.
Avatar n tn I was tested for all STD's two weeks ago, all tests (including the HPV tests) were negative. I have several warts around the base of my penis and my doctor said that it looked like HPV. I was given Aldara cream 3x a week and not my penis has open sores, dry skin and scabing. Even though all the tests were negative the doctor give me a script for a herpes med because he said the sores looked like herpes. I have not been with anyone in 7 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hang in there - I know it's really easy for us to say this probably isn't herpes but from the aldara and hard for you to relax about it. We'd be the same way even with all we know if we were going thru it ourselves!
Avatar f tn My gyn put me on aldara for my gential warts, i started and within a week i discovered i had an open sore at the opening of my vagina, maybe i wasn'tas careful as i should of using it, but 2 days later this thing is painful as hell, i call my gyn and he tells me to come in, i told him i suspect is a side effect from aldara, he has a look at it and tells he he think it looks just like a herpes open sore, he sent me for a blood test for that.

Avatar n tn Hi. I used Aldara for two weeks and my warts went away. I didn't have to scratch or scrape. I don't think you should puncture them at all. The cream caused some severe skin reactions for me (and it was on my bum :( ) so I stopped using it two weeks in for about a week and then when I went to start applying the cream again the warts were gone.
Avatar m tn She diagnosed me with genital warts however she referred me to a gyno who also said i have genital warts and prescribed aldara cream. So i began using aldara cream, however on the 3rd week i got severe bad reactions. After every application the wart would actual get bigger in size and i would get tingly feelings in my genitals and due to that i wouldnt be able to sleep at night.
Avatar m tn And even if they are warts, really not that big of deal. Very common, in fact I believe thee most common STD in sexually active people. Good Luck!!
Avatar m tn However, I have no insurance and the medication for one month is 560.00 which is worth it for two months if it kills the warts forever and the virus causing them. I found, online, a medication called Wartrol which is supposed to attack the virus and show results within 48 hours and is significantly cheaper. Could you please check out this link and let me know what you would advise me to do?
Avatar n tn So my doctor was about to cut them off, when I brought up the Candida antigen which is injected into common warts, plantar warts, etc as intralesional immunotherapy. She thought it was a great idea and we should try it. The injection was yesterday and by the end of the day yesterday the large warts were physically smaller, the smaller ones were disappearing. I'm shocked at how quickly results seem to be occurring.
Avatar n tn For three years now I have had common warts on two of my fingers. These warts are located under the fingernail and grow out around the tips of my fingers. I have made multiple dermatologist visits where I have received multiple topical treatments (canthacur, organic oils), freezing, laser treatment, and minor surgery (basicly the removing of part of my fingernail and fingertip). The warts have grown back following all of these treatments although in diminishing size.
Avatar m tn the dr did the sprayed liquid nitrogen for 6 times and gave me prescription, aldara. my question is that, what procedure and how will they do for the warts that is inside the anus by the colo-rectal specialist?... i just wnat to know alex please!... Thank you!
Avatar m tn So here is my story. I was prescribed Aldara and told to take it 5 times a week for up to 3 months. This was October 23rd. I did so Monday-Friday for 4 weeks and felt like they were getting smaller, but had to take a week off due to some skin irritation. (left on too long). I then resumed. I tried to avoid the internet before because I of all the conflicting information, and now see the one thing thats always the same is that it's prescribed almost exclusively 3 times a week for 16 weeks.
Avatar m tn Oral sex apparently is low risk for HPV transmission. Warts or other HPV infections of the mouth and throat are far less common then genital HPV, even in people who regularly participate in oral sex. I suggest you have honest conversations with women you date for the next several months, telling them you had genital warts and that since you were treated, the potential for transmission is low.
Avatar m tn In January when they healed I thought I saw two small warts growing back so I got prescription of Aldara. I used the cream, and so far everything is looking good. I’ve been wart free for two months now. Here are my questions: 1.I have a weird red dot on my upper thigh that just appeared about two weeks ago. Normally I wouldn’t think much of it, but when I got the laser surgery done, the doctor had removed something in my upper inner thigh close to my testicles.
Avatar m tn It's either that or the 'warts' were skin tags (which hold a striking comparison to warts) or some other kind of bump and the reason you aren't responding to Aldara is because it's not actually warts (could you possibly go back, and ask for a biopsy?). Also, over the counter treatments are only good for common warts that you find on your fingers and knees etc.
Avatar n tn The topic of HPV and genital warts is a complex one. I will try to provide some facts. For additional information on this most common of STDs, I would suggest search for other HPV- and wart-related Q&A on this site, as well seeking addition information on sites such as the American Social health Association web-site (disclosure, Dr. Handsfield and I are both on the Board of ASHA).. Your wife has HPV in the form of genital warts. It is likely you have the same infection as well.
Avatar f tn 4 months ago I decided that I wanted to get rid of the warts and my general practioner gave me Aldara again though he never looked at the warts. I used the Aldara for 14 weeks with no changes to the warts. After that I went to my dermatologist who assessed the lesions said my "warts" are just skin tags and harmless. One was removed and biopsied to know for sure.
Avatar n tn if so, there has not been any known facts about masturbating that triggers growths of warts or more outbreaks of warts. It is very common to go without symptoms of HPV for years even or never. You couldve gotten it from anyone. Yes genital warts go away on its own usually but only after more growths of it so you want to try to get treatment for the warts. The best one I would recommend is to freeze it off, this is done by a professional.
Avatar f tn I know HPV is common and most everyone gets it, but how common are genital warts? Once the warts are gone, what are my chances in having more show up in the future? A week after I was with my last partner is when I started noticing the bumps. Can I assume that he gave it to me? When the warts are gone, is it ok to have unprotected sex and not tell my partner? When I went to the doctor, I also had an HPV test and my results came by negative.
