Zyrtec and hydroxyzine

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and hydroxyzine

Avatar f tn The key is when you go cold turkey let the itch get to the point that you can't actually stand it anymore like a few hours after the itching starts, its hard but stretch it out. Take the Hydroxyzine and jump in a hot shower your itch will stop. Unfortunately it will start back up but you will find that the time becomes longer and longer between pills until your life is back in your hands no more itching. I only had to take 21 Hydroxyzine's out of the 30 pills it took about 45 days.
Avatar f tn i started taking zyrtec about 6 months ago for post nasal drip and watery eyes. i took it almost every day and felt much better. i figured i would stop and see if my allergies were better. bad idea. after 48 hour without zyrtec i start to itch everywhere. it starts between my fingers and wrists and feet and ankles and ends up everywhere. i take a pill and it goes away. i have tried to stop many times but the itching is just too bad.
Avatar n tn I have been on claritin, clarinex, zyrtec and xyzal. I am continuing with zyrtec now becaue of the cost of xyzal ($200/3mo) due to my healthcare selectively removing antihistamines from the formulary. Xyzal was definitely better for me than any of the others, and I have something more than the standard statement to go with that. Last week I had an allergy test done. RAST/Interdermal type.

478342 tn?1241372952 Double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(zyrtec), Loratadine(Claritin), Acrivastine and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. The effect of prednisolone will come off once you are off it.It will not last long.
Avatar f tn He told me to take one a day but i been taking them for two days and i feel a little better and some has gone away but my hands and feet got very swollen and hurtful. i dont know what it is and its scaring me because I've never been the type of person that has allergic reactions?
Avatar n tn The other day after eating dinner I noticed that all of the knucles on both hands were red and very itchy, within minutes i started seeing hives. I immediately took benedryl and the next day they were gone. However, the next day it started again but this time included my feet and knees. Nothing has changed in my diet or cosmetics wise so I wasnt sure what was going on. Then a few hours later i noticed swelling in both hands and both feet. It also went down after taking benedryl.
Avatar f tn In case the symptoms persist then pls consult a dermatologist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing and if you have any additional queries.
Avatar n tn We visited many doctors and all denied the flu shot was the culprit and no one can tell us when this will go away! He takes 2 zyrtec and benedryl at night. If he misses a dose his eyes and lips swell up and he is covered head to toe. It's annoying that I know what caused this but no one will own up to it.
97615 tn?1212682189 i have had liver tests and allergy tests and i have been tested for rheumatoid arthritis. i take zyrtec which keeps it under control most of the time. and by under control i mean i still get the rash just not as bad. i do have seasonal allergies and asthma that are under control. this did happen after stopping singulair and becoming pregnant, miscarrying, pregnant again and delivering, and now it is getting bad again. i dont want to just control it, i want to know why it is happening.
1768199 tn?1323621536 I now take a Valium 1/2 hour before dosing with Riba and incivek and it works fine. I don't know if it is for everyone though. It can be addictive and I'm not working so I can go back to sleep if it makes me to tired, but I couldn't take the physical anxiety. It makes you feel like you want to jump out of you skin. More physical then mental. I feel much better now.
Avatar f tn I was eventually prescribed fluocinonide ointment (a steroid ointment much stronger than anything over the counter), Hydroxyzine at night, and Zyrtec in the am. They have helped a grat deal although I still have the rash 3 months later (just in different areas because it moves around). I am including links to photos of the rash and how it is categorized (mild, moderate, severe). The treatment for each stage is listed too. Maybe your doctor needs to see the photos too. http://www.incivek.
Avatar f tn Therefore, we need a strong enough antihistamine and we need it often enough to keep the itching controlled and/or the rash from recurring. Hydroxyzine is a stronger medication and it works much better in situations like ours.
Avatar f tn I saw an allergist a week ago and she put me on allegra in the day time and zyrtec at night, and I'm also on a nose spray called Veramyst. The hives have never gone away completely save for the three days I was on a steroid. Today they are as worse as ever. I just want them to go away forever. And I don't know how to make that happen....
Avatar n tn I am battling this also mostly chronic Hives, this appeared about 6 weeks ago after I had taken anti biotics and had a Root canal, I have been tring to find out all I can I too have had no luck with Doctors , One gave me Hydroxyzine which is a relaxant but also used as an anti hisimine, 10 days in I got a severe right sided chest pain I thought I was having a all Bladder Attack, did some research and Hydroxyzine can cause Virus Infections,The hives change they have gone from huge raised wheals ,
Avatar f tn If the rash is just starting, then he could try Hydrocortizone cream and benadryl orally at night (if that is okay with his doctor). He could also try zyrtec in the morning if that is okay with his doc. If the doc is available on the weekend, you could call him/her. Otherwise, on Monday he or you should call his doctor and let the doctor know about this rash and how bad it is. He may need some prescription meds like fluocinonide ointment and hydroxyzine tablets.
503607 tn?1275675179 Aerius (desloratadin) works excellent for me. Zyrtec is, in my opinion, crap and causes a lot of tachycardias. I also get annoying tremors when I suddely awake the moment I fall asleep (also caused by Zyrtec).
Avatar n tn It spread all over my body by the next day and I was really worried because the medicine did not seem to have worked at all. I took Zyrtec again this morning, and it helped a little, but I'm still getting hives. I was wondering if this is just a flare up and will it go away soon if I continue taking the medicine? I'm really worried right now and am in a lot of stress over this.
Avatar n tn As my skin cools down and the itching lessens, those symptoms start to subside also. Currently, I am taking zyrtec and 200 mg of hydroxyzine a day plus Elidel. They do not make me sleepy but they also are not working as well as they used to (or I am getting worse). I have been reading about my conditions on the Internet and honestly I seem far worse than those articles describe. Is what I am describing consistent with this diagnosis or do I possibly have something else wrong with me?
Avatar n tn You can take non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(Zyrtec) or Loratadine(Claritin). Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. Also apply calamine lotion and mild steroid cream on the rashes. You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement.
Avatar m tn Healthy 42 year-old male in Wisconsin. Sudafed and others have not helped, but Zyrtec works well for me and the itch goes away in 30-45 mins. Mine is also only about 11-12ish at night, sometimes on feet, mostly on hands - tonight it's worst on the webs of my hands between thumbs and index fingers. The skin feels hot to the touch, but no physical symptoms on the skin itself. If I can not wait for the Zyrtec to work, I put my feet in ice-water and hold icepacks in my hands.
890195 tn?1241148998 As far as hive medication, I'm going to try to just stick with Zyrtec, Benadryl, and possibly Hydroxyzine (Atarax). The other meds are antidepressants which also have strong antihistamine action that may be interfering. I can't say that I've felt a correlation between my thyroid and hives. My TSH has been all over the place and my hives seem very random. I would say that the hives seem more HORMONAL or stress related than thyroid sensitive.
Avatar f tn Hydroxyzine Very good to know I think I'll be making an appt to see my doctor very soon.
Avatar f tn It is more red, more itchy, and seems to develop some welts and blisters. Some people have reported that it tends to move from one part of the body to another. Many people on this forum have experienced the Incivek rash. I thought I would post everyone's ideas for managing it for future reference.
496771 tn?1209698358 My hair line is extremely swollen and painful and the glands behind my ears are as well. They are sore to the touch and honestly kind of lumpy! -- am I in any danger? Will this just go away? Should I be worried? It's been about 48 hours since I dyed my hair. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi, Miliaria, sweat rash or prickly heat, is a skin disease marked by small and itchy rashes. Miliaria is a common ailment in hot and humid conditions, such as in the tropics and during the summer season. It occurs when the sweat gland ducts get plugged due to dead skin cells or bacteria. The trapped sweat leads to irritation or prickling, itching and to a rash of very small blisters, usually in a localized area of the skin.
Avatar n tn I woke up the next morning with angiodema. I went to the doctor and they put me on methylprednisone and zyrtec. They were getting better on Wed. and Thurs. and I will admit I was feeling stressed on Thurs. By Thursday night I was covered again in hives. friday i went to the allergist and he took me off methylprednisone and put me on prednisone and zyrtec, and gave me a cortisone shot.
478342 tn?1241372952 I don't know which country you are in so I won't give a brand name, but there is a drug called hydroxyzine, which is an antihistamine and a sedative. It is used to treat itching caused by many things including anxiety. Ask your doctor if you are suitable for this treatment, and if so get it prescribed. Then make sure you see a dermatologist. There may be some really helpful diagnoses they can make.
Avatar n tn Hence, Systemic antihistamines (injection is preferred) and antipruritics such as hydroxyzine or cetirizine against prescription may be helpful. Even addition of corticosteroids has possible benefits. I suggest you to consult dermatologist for further evaluation and treatment. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I don't know if you have been treated yet since this post is old, but I'm on a combination of prednisone, Zantac, Zyrtec, zafirlukast, and Hydroxyzine. I don't think there is a cure, but there is help. I'm receiving shots of Xolair which has helped people, but so far it hasn't helped me so I might try Plaquenil. I hope you have gotten better.
