Common Questions and Answers about Is zyrtec d non drowsy

Avatar n tn Me too , I have had Hives or Chronic Urticaria since Mid May after Dental Work, I live in Southern CA , the doctors I have seen gave me HYdroxyzene which made me feel sick and I had pains similar to a Gall Bladder attack and I read Hydroxyzine can cause viral infections, , I have also been given topical cream, but it is steroid so I use sparingly.
Avatar n tn I imagine any antihistamine would work (non-drowsy would be best if you're not at home). I keep zyrtec in my purse because I never know when it's going to start and it's unbearable. Good luck!
5574172 tn?1376703981 Depends on how far along you are if you're in the first trimester it's ok to take light pain med or non drowsy allergy meds i just asked my Dr and he said it's ok. As far as being further along i don't know.
436516 tn?1382388265 The advair does not help but I need it anyway for my asthma, and so with rhynocort for my nasal allergies. Zyrtec is what I take for my indoor and outdoor allergies. I am done with Claritin and Alegra which does not help with my allergies. I take vitamins C, Calcium with D, iron, magnesium, and also take Fish oil and garlic pills. Tonight I decided to skip all the pills including vitamins and hopefully the coughing will be less frequent.
Avatar m tn Loratine is a good 24 hr, non-drowsy antihistiamine. For decongestants, I haven't had a problem with phenylephrine, except that it never last long. Last time I was at a doctor, he recommended the nasal spray decongestants with oxymetazoline as the active ingredient, as an alternative to psuedoephedrine. Works wonders!
Avatar dr m tn ) or Zyrtec. Zyrtec is stronger, but has a slightly higher chance of making you drowsy. If you take it regularly at night before you got to bed, this any potential drowsiness won’t be an issue and this effect wears off after a few days. ● Diphenhydramine (Benadryl). This is an older, stronger antihistamine, which can definitely make you drowsy. It’s also used to severe allergic reactions and rashes.
Avatar n tn Today she seems much better and there seem to be fewer sores, so I was wondering if it would be okay to give her Alavert instead since it is non-drowsy? She weighs 12 lbs. If it's okay, do I give her a quarter of a tablet, and can I give it for 3-4 days or until she seems better?
Avatar n tn Yes, that is another thing I hate, I also get allergies with nasal congestion and used to take Zyrtec D and Nasonex which helped a lot, but now I can't take that I do not think. I am going to ask my Endo Friday and let him tell me exactly what I can take. I will be so glad to get the treatment on this hyperthyroid rolling and I am even looking forward to RAI if I have to take it. I know hypo is no walk in the park either but I had still rather be hypo than hyper.

Avatar n tn I use both Astelin and Nasonex spray coupled with mucinex, sudaphed, singulair, garlic, and zyrtec-D. When it is really bad, I take the Zyrtec-D and sudaphed at the same time.I remember Allegra-D pretty much curing my problems, but it made my neck and back hurt so bad that I had to quit. Sinusbuster also helps some. Have you discovered your triggers yet? I think mine are being too hot, cold air, dust, and strong odors and possibly car emissions. Don't give up.
Avatar f tn It is 4 a.m. and I am desperately trying to figure out why I continue to break out in hives and have joint pain in my elbows, feet, hands and legs. I too started breaking out in hives after taking the antibotic Solodyn for acne. After a trip to the ER, it was assumed that I had an alergic reaction to the medicine. I stopped taking the medicine after only 3 weeks and needless to say, I am still breaking out in hives and have joint pain. I have been tested for allergies and that was negative.
530191 tn?1214166411 The most well tolerated initial treatment is the non-sedating antihistamine Claritin. Zyrtec is similar but may sometimes cause sedation. If that doesn't eliminate the hives, a sedating-type of antihistamine (hydroxyzine, cyproheptadine or doxepin) is added at night. High doses may be needed and this will cause sedation. Fortunately, most patients will become less affected by sedation after they have taken the drug regularly for a while.
Avatar n tn In december 2005, made an appointment with a new physician, still for the symptons of drainage, dry cough and clearing throat, and wheezing, and now also for pain in upper back ( while breathing in deeply),, she gave me a TB test, ( came back negative) i had another chest x ray ( dr. said looked clear ) gave me levaquin antibiotic, zyrtec D, and flonase, and advair inhaler, I now feel somewhat better, but all of the symptons are still here, just a little better. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Avatar n tn 5000 iu of vitamin D is not at all high, especially if you have been tested and found to be deficient. To cure my itchy leg problem I took a lot more than that, just for a few weeks, and to remain itch-free I now take 10,000 iu a day together with a vitamin K capsule, as well as getting out in the sun when I can. I recommend you Google vitamin D, as I did, and also people like Jeff Bowles, Michael F Holick and Dr Mercola, and read the beginning of each of their books for free on Amazon.
Avatar f tn It is an older drug and will make you drowsy for the first couple weeks, but that goes away completely with time. Zyrtec, Zantac, Prednisone, allegra, etc.........all garbage. Take Elavil and Be Free Again!!!!! -Best of Luck to all, I feel for all of you.
Avatar n tn I was told to do my research on this disease online because my doctor did not have much information about it because its occurance is so rare. All the medication that was prescribed didnt work. Even using boxes of baking soda in the bathtub doesnt work and thats what my dermatologist told me would get rid of the hives in the first place. I'm sick of just dealing with the growing amount of itchy hives.
Avatar n tn A week after I saw an allergist and he couldn't figure it out either. He put me on Singulair and Zyrtec D at the end of March 07 to see if either of those would help. At the beginning of April of 07 the hives just disappeared. I'm not sure if the Paxel kicked in or the Allergy medicine worked. The hives stayed away completely until June 23rd of 07 and they are becoming as bad as they used to be in Nov-April.
Avatar n tn But once or twice a month, I sneeze uncontrollably, hundreds of times, all day long, and nothing, not Allegra-D, not Claritin, not Benadryl, will stop it. And the weird thing is, this sneezing is NOT accompanied by the usual itching. When I have a "sneezing day," I am nonfunctional. All events are canceled. It is absolutely exhausting. I sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with weather or barometric changes; it seems like it rains or there's a temp.
Avatar n tn Anyway, in the past when I have had a severe occurrence, I would visit the ER and they would give me prednisone, a steroid/miracle that worked like a charm. BC my only known allergy is red dye, I cannot take non-drowsy benedryl, only the clear liquid gels that put me into a coma. The prednisone is the only thing that helps my body combat these reactions.
Avatar f tn The zyrtec is a histamine blocker which helps block the antigen/allergen response. Zyrtec is over the counter. Benadryl is really not waranted because benadryl has a shorter half life. Unless you have health conditions that don't allow you to take Zyrtec, try it. Prevention is key. you do not want to let it get to the point of no return.
Avatar n tn My ear/nose/throat, of course, laughs at this, convinced its my allergies, of which I have an allergy test appointment on Jan 10. All he has told me is to take some Claritin-D (which helped for a few days, but not anymore), cover my bed with hypoallergenic ****, and to wait and find out about my allergies, and then get the allergy shots. I also saw an acupuncturist who worked some magic for about 48 hours as well, but that was all.
Avatar n tn I've only taken OTC drugs so far (Benodryl, Hydrocortizone, Dermoplast and now Zyrtec) but nothing is working. I'm going to go to the doctor this week but after reading this thread I am not optimistic about knowing anything more after having done so. I did recently stop taking some antibiotics and noticed this started right after I finished them.
Avatar m tn They are telling us several thousand per injection twice monthly. I'm interested to see if anyone is getting positive results from this.
Avatar n tn Dear Miketish, Hey I am on only 50mgs.I say only, but and BUT being the big word I also take wellbutin300,& Zyrtec D,Fish oil,and as needed metamucil at night.I think the zyrtec D is the fuel to the fire!!!!It is the combo that kicks the sinus head ache and migrains. Also the appetite. I have to constantly tell myself to drink and eat.Although I have stayed at the 10lbs mark, I havent gone to the doctors in a week. He told me to only weigh in there because all scales are different.
Avatar n tn It is 2 a.m. and I am sitting here with such intense itching it is about to drive me nuts. I actually have had this problem before, but at that time I also suffered with itching on the soles of my feet. I consulted a naturpath who conducted a hair analysis that determined that I was copper toxic. My body did not have enough copper, so it was holding on to every bit it could. When he put me on supplements, copper being one of them all the itching stopped, almost immediatley.
Avatar n tn Well, I have figured out that sugar is definitely a trigger for me. That is kind of a bummer but I guess it is another reason for me to stick to a healthy diet. :) I have also noticed that evening is worse for me--maybe because I am more tired? I am guessing that is it.
Avatar n tn Is convinced that my allergies are out of control. I take shots, Astelin, Zyrtec D, Clariten, Benedryl, Flonase... nothing is working... I am in allergy fog and no doubt feel sick allot as I catch everything my kids bring into the house. Last night in desperation I went to the drug store and purchased another OTC med. Chlortramine, or something like that... a 4 hour jobby. My head started cracklin open and I started breathing better! ISo, I am feeling more rested than usual this morning...
Avatar n tn The itching is getting more intense and I'm afraid that it will continue to just get worse and last longer. Water is the only thing so far that triggers this. This is not a topical or dry skin itch, it's like my nerve endings are going wild inside my legs. Nothing seems to relieve the itch, it just has to "run it's course". I've tried different lotions, not using soap, not shaving my legs, warm water, cold water, not drying off, change the floor rugs....
Avatar n tn It's an anti-histamine that doesn't make you as drowsy as benedryl does. The two forms that Zyrtec comes in has 10mg of anti-histamine, and that's the highest mg it has. You're only supposed to take one, but when I get itch fits I have to take two or three to get it to stop. Zyrtec without insurance costs $75.00, and I have to take two or three everytime I have a fit. It only comes in thirty day supply, so you can imagine how fast I can go through that stuff.
