I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?

t want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote. I am also worried about the risks of low blood sugar/diabetes as I already have problems with sugar loss (though I am not diabetic), also the dizziness thing - I already have bad episodes of dizziness. Hello, I took zyprexa (antipsychotic) for 4 years and have taken cymbalta (antidepressant) for 5 years. I gained a lot of weight (50lbs), and started to have insulin resistance problems and high glucose levels. I was put on metformin 500mg once a day for a year. I was told that if I lost the weight my numbers would go back to normal. I lost 40lbs, I am exercising and eating healthy. My doctor told me that I could quit metformin.

Sounds like that Celexa was pooping out on you and you needed the Zyprexa to jump start it. Same thing has happened to me on more than a few antidepressants. Lithium also makes for a good booster drug, but most people don't try it as an add on because they think it's only for Bi-polar.

It seems to have me syabilized but now I have read about the countess thousands of people who have gotten diabetes from taking zyprexa. I have high blood sugar anyway, so I assume I am at high risk. What should I do? Switch meds? If so, yo what? Or, stay with zyprexa? Any advice would be appreciated.

I have had four months of nausea and dizziness because my dr. took me off Zyprexa and put me on another med. I thought my symptoms were from withdrawal but he said that I shouldn't experience withdrawal from Zyprexa, especially since the new drug, Seroquel, was in the same class. So I was told I had an inner ear problem for the last four months and have been suffering through these symptoms.

My doctor has put me on Lamictal 25mg in the morning with my usual morning dose of Efexor 150mg. He has also put me on Zyprexa 5mg to help me sleep, as my sleep has been very broken, and I became very anxious. Will it be difficult to come off Zyprexa as I don't want to be permanently on this ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I meant to suggest you have your thyroid checked and also blood sugar. Hope it gets straightened out by the endocrinologist.

m on Zoloft and Depakote - I still cycle but not as badly - I feel like a fat whale and have gained about 5 lbs (not that much really) I really liked how Lexapro and Depakote improved my sleep and lowered my blood sugar readings (I am also diabetic) but one dosage of the Lexapro gave me dysphoric mania and that is not good and a higher dosage gave me "pure" mania and I couldn't sleep and was quite crude SO.... Hope all goes well...

Benadryl seems to knock the edge off of the tension and movement but I will still feel like my skin is crawling and like I have low blood pressure or low blood sugar. But it is enough sometimes so I can get to sleep. I have tried to not tak seroquel and switch to another drug but seroquel is the only medicine that manages my bipolar II disorder so I’m stuck trying to deal with this side effect but sometimes it’s so bad I want to wake my husband up to take me to the ER.

Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.

Is there a blood test that can tell how long a person has been taking zyprexa?

It has been 4 weeks since I took my last pill and have not slept very much at all and feel alot of anxiety and feel like I have bugs under my skin and have no appetite. I find it very diffifuclt to make it through the day at work and my mind is mush. I was told to take 5-htp and would make a big difference. I don't know if it is related to withdrawals or the 5-htp but I really couldn't sleep when I took that, which makes no sense since people take it to help insomnia.

I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!

My doc put me on abilify yesterday and warned me that it can cause serious blood sugar problems. This scares me because I have a family history of diabetes. Can a healthier diet and excercise plan help offset this possible side effect, or does it just happen anyway, no matter what your diet? Also, is there any other things I need to be warned about or watch for while I start this new medication? I am already taking lamictal as well.

Does zyprexa or Zopiclone cause excessive yawying. I have been on both for a while and I have been yawning alot. I do have anxiety. Do these drugs cause excessive yawying?

Be sure his dr watches his blood sugar levels as these meds can make you go pre diabetic or diabetic.

Go for 6 small meals a day with a carb and a protien. No sodas and sugar. I have lost 46 pounds and I have been on zyprexa for about 7 years. I am loosing 30 more.

I've been taking Zyprexa at bedtime for the past few nights, per Endo #3, and I feel a lot better, folks. As a matter of fact, I felt better almost immediately after taking the first dose. It seems to act quick, like Xanax, but stays in the bloodstream longer or something. Dr. Pretorius was concerned that I was getting a little too used to Xanax, so he wants me to try to gradually come off of that and he'll increase the Zyprexa dosage.

I have been to doctor with all sorts of things and had blood tests and ultrasound scans. All clear. Now to have a CT scan. I ask myself, is it all in my head? The pains are real enough. So is the nausea and dizziness and the loss of appetite, but all could be symtoms of depression. I once had strong pain killers that brough on depression. Best to get it all looked at though. Can't help being like this. Well done if you think you are able to quit smoking.

They diagnosed me with temporal lobe epilepsy and bipolar and gave me Lamictil and Zyprexa. The Zyprexa gave me a sugar problem...one of the rare side-feffects. I started eating glucose enrgy bars like mad!...it got worse than alcoholism and even put me on a high. Before that I could never eat much sugar, then I get all sick. Then suddenly one morning I woke up with this terrible sweet taste in my mouth.

I was on Zyprexa for about a year and a half and I got a few of these murmurs. I was reassured that they were harmless and because they didn't especially hurt I was satisfied with this answer. Since then I have been switching around medications like a lab rat, and most of the others have caused me significant constirnation. The best for my mind seemed to be Geodon, but then again I was only on it for about 10 days before reading that it may cause Parkinson-like symptoms.

Can anyone please let me know their experience with zyprexa. How long it took to work and how it helped you. I would appreciate any advice and information on it. I am bipolar 1 for 17 years, have been through a lot of meds, and unfortunately have to take many. Thank you.
