Zoloft versus lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft versus lexapro

zoloft

Avatar f tn It IS common to experience a reemergence of the "start up" side effects after a dosage increase, but it also sounds like your symptoms could be largely hormonal, as you consistently report a surge in anxiety around your menses. Are you on any kind of hormonal birth control? If not, have you discussed that with your doctor? I'm wondering if you perhaps could have PMDD? 2198057 tn?1338531205 Try getting another prescription for something else like Lexapro or Welbuturin. To many side effects with zoloft. In the meantime try to get some low dose zanax to calm your nerves until you get different meds. Remember anxiety is an over exhagerrated nervous system that needs to be nourished and medicated because of imbalances in the brain. Does this run in your family?
12714324 tn?1426848387 I have been taking xanax until my lexapro fully kick in, is this ok? It seems that I'm getting worst and I just want to feel better now. I'm married with two kids and I just want to be better than being a burden.
Avatar f tn Right now, the doctor wants me to wean off the Zoloft and next week introduce the Lexapro. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue with Zoloft (50mg/daily). I also have severe anxiety and will be taking .25mg of Xanax as needed. Oh and how well does Lexapro work? I have taken Effexor in the past for a few years, was awesome (minus coming off it!!)...took it again almost two months ago and didn't like it (first week was good, but then it didn't do anything).
505677 tn?1263948093 I was on lexapro in the beginning and I have had my meds switched several times from lexapro, welbutrin, then I was takin lexapro and welbutrin, and it wasnt helping so now im taking Zoloft... Zoloft is really good for me, it is helping me tremendous... its actually helped me better than lexapro, but everyone is different... I was also afraid of switching... I would atleast give it a chance, and see if it works...if it doesnt then you can tell your insurance...
Avatar n tn She decided to switch me from zoloft to Lexapro. She said I could immediatly discontinue the zoloft and start on the lexapro 10 mg. I have been feeling a little out of sorts since I have switched and i am wondering if perhaps I should taper off the zoloft and ease into the lexapro.. or does it not matter?
Avatar f tn What is not good is to be taking both the Zoloft and Lexapro together. At this point your dosage of Zoloft is low enough that you can discontinue it completly and keep taking the Lexapro. The Zoloft in your system will take a good week to completly wash from your system. In the mean time the Lexapro that your taking will take over where the Zoloft left off. In another month when the Lexapro is at full efectivness, then you may be able to get off that Klonopin.
Avatar m tn My doctor switched me from 30 mg of lexapro to 150 mg zoloft a week ago because the lexapro wasn't working. I had my first anxiety attack about 6 weeks ago. Subsequently, I dropped into deep depression and continued having anxiety almost daily. Several years ago zoloft worked very well for me for depression. I never had anxiety before. I know they are both SSRIs, but are different chemicals. My concern is that I will have to suffer for another 6-8 weeks before the zoloft kicks in.
396099 tn?1216254986 I wanted to check in with you and see how your switch from Lexapro to Zoloft went/is going. I am making the switch myself and have been weaning off Lexapro and onto Zoloft. Right now, I'm taking 10mg of Lexapro and 37.5 mg of Zoloft with 1 mg of Lorazepam 2x a day (to help get over the hump of changing). I have noticed that since I am overlapping AND taking the Lorazepam, I have little desire to interact with anyone AND the sex drive is completely dead. How are you doing now on Zoloft?
Avatar f tn If Zoloft was working why go onto lexapro ? After one month I would think that would be enough time. Dosage may need to be tweaked.
Avatar f tn Your post is a little confusing -- did you taper off the Zoloft, or go off cold turkey, or switch to Lexapro, or are you on both Zoloft and Lexapro and now Cymbalta? Going off any of these meds abruptly, even if you switch to another, can trigger a withdrawal, which is why I'm asking.
689327 tn?1240229164 In the past yr I have been on celexa, lexapro , Zoloft and now back on lexapro because the 200 mg of Zoloft was making me shakey. None of these AD's seem to work aty anxiety and depression. The only slight relief I get is from klonopin, which I have been on for a yr also (low dose .25mg 3x's a day. My podcast keeps telling me to be patient because it takes time for these mess to work .
Avatar f tn s a great drug. I took Lexapro for eight years, until it recently stopped working, and then went on Zoloft, and now I'm back on the Lexapro. I have a very hard time tolerating most drugs, but Lexapro never caused me any side effects, except maybe some initial tiredness. I also felt naseaus on Zoloft, but like I said, Lexapro was great.
6424357 tn?1381329871 She said sometimes its tampered but she actually said that 50mg of zoloft is a low dose compared to what i was on for lexapro and thats another reason i could be feeling so bad(since i went from a high dose of a ssri to a lower one)." She's (again) going off the premise that all ssri medications are directly compatible and equivalent, and saying one can be "swapped" for another. The FACT is, that's simply NOT true.
Avatar f tn I know people on it who are doing very well and I know people who have been on zoloft and switched to lexapro but had to go back to zoloft. I am also going through menopause. My started going to a new dr. and he said he would like me to go on lexapro and told me how to start to wean off of zoloft. The fears are have are, I'm scared lexapro causes high blood pressure, weight gain, and I'm scared its not going to work as well as the zoloft.
Avatar f tn I see two possibilities, given you seem to want to go back on the Lexapro -- you can try it again after slowly tapering off the Zoloft -- maybe the break in time off it will allow it to work again. Not likely to happen, but possible, depending on how long has passed. Or you could try Celexa, which is almost the same drug as Lexapro but enough different that it might help you the way the Lexapro did. No way to know, though, other than trial and error. Good luck.
Avatar f tn just changed from 10mg lexapro to 50 mg zoloft because zoloft worked well before. My anexity is off the charts. muscle spasms , shakey and just plain misserable. Is this normal and how long will it last?
Avatar f tn I saw a psychiatrist, though, and she said that I was on much too low of a dose of Zoloft to be equivalent to Lexapro. If I remember correctly, you were also on 50 mg of Zoloft, correct? It took me about six to eight weeks on the Lexapro to feel better, but once I did, it was FANTASTIC! I'm not having a lot of luck with Zoloft, at least not yet, though my dosage was too low for several weeks.
Avatar f tn I was told to switch from 150 mg Zoloft to 20 mg of lexapro and I am also taking 5 mg of abilify. I am SO WORRIED the lexapro will make e dizzy. Please anyone have insight in this. Please help. I am freaking out and so worried. And I think my doc told me to just switch the Zoloft and stop it completely and just start the lexapro? Is that right. Or do I need to wean off of it. I'm worried. I just took 20 mg of lexapro and not my original Zoloft dose.
Avatar f tn He has suggested a switch in my medication and wants me to start a samll dose 12mg of Zoloft today for a week to see how my body reacts to it. If all goes well then he would increase the Zoloft and eventually take me of the Lexapro. He has also indicated that I could take the Kolonopin twice daily to help with the anxiety. I am very nervouse of this change. Just the thought of taking the Zoloft had increased my anxiety and crying spells.
Avatar f tn Still have anxiety and breakthrough panic attacks. He has given me the choice of lexapro or Zoloft. Since Celexa and lexapro are so similar, I'm concerned that the lexapro won't work given that the Celexa stopped working. On the other hand, he has warned me that Zoloft is more activating, which is not good for anxiety and panic. Thoughts? Advice? Similar experiences?
