Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft pregnancy category

zoloft

Avatar f tn s better to NOT take Zoloft during pregnancy. That being said, a lot of women take an antidepressant during their pregnancies with no issues. Keep in mind too, that these meds are fairly new on the market, so any long term issues really cannot be determined yet. There really aren't any definitive studies about the long term effects on children born to mothers who were taking Zoloft during pregnancy.
958812 tn?1268764172 s can be taken during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Zoloft, Prozac, and Celexa are a few examples of Class C antidepressants that fit into this category. In general, its best to avoid these medications during the 1st trimester, if at all possible, and depending on the dosage you are on you may need to tapper down before delivery as some baby's do experience mild-moderate withdrawal symptoms after delivery. Visteral can be taken during pregnancy for panic attacks.
Avatar f tn It is one of those situations where you have to look at if the benefits outweigh the risk. Zoloft is a category c, so risk to the fetus can't be ruled out because there haven't been a lot of studies. But untreated anxiety and depression are not healthy for you or your baby. I take a medication for bipolar, also a category c. It bums me out that I need it, but it is what it is. If I was diabetic I would take my meds for that, and it's the same thing.
Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft for the last two months of my last pregnancy, and for the last month of this most recent one. I continued to take it for a few months after my last son was born, and I'm taking it now (my new baby is three weeks old). The risks are very low, and the benefits far outweigh the risks. I'm sure your situation is the same. Make sure you discuss the meds with your OB and your psychiatrist. It's important to continue your psych meds, as you know!
Avatar n tn m really hesitant to switch, especially that whole transitional part between going off the Effexor and going on Zoloft. I also feel that both drugs are category "C" drugs meaning their neither good nor bad for the fetus, so really, is there an advantage to Zoloft? Any thoughts? Thanks!
1616253 tn?1299253179 t stop your medication until you have spoken with your doctor. The zoloft is a category C medication. But you want to make sure that if you are pregnant, you don't want your PTSD to get worse. Make sure you take a pregnanct test and contact your doctor as soon as possible if you are pregnant. I had to take klonopin while I was pregnant and it made me really nervous because it's a class D medication. But I was taking it for panick attacks.
Avatar f tn Thank you all. It's been 10 days since I stopped weaned off effexor and i am not noticing any more withdrawal symptoms....except minute traces in the morning. I really found that benadryl helped a lot. I was taking 1 liquid capsule every 4-6 hours and by the late afternoon, I did not have to take anymore. The brain-zapping has ceased! This was the worst thing ever I have felt! THe Zoloft is working wonders and I feel great....
8924846 tn?1410572901 Zoloft. Zoloft is the safest one to use during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn however, this is very rare. Most moms on Zoloft give birth to healthy children. Zoloft is a category C and Paxil is a category D. I myself was on 40mgs of Celexa and 2-4 mgs of ativan my entire 3rd trimester and gave birth to a healthy boy who is developmentally normal. I know your post is fairly old but my advice would be to wait until you feel stable just on the Zoloft before tyring to concieve. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn Hello. I also posted this question in the Depression community, but not sure which category it really falls under. I just started Zoloft two days ago for depression. Today, I'm noticing brown vaginal discharge. I am nowhere near a period (I have been skipping them with my birth control pills due to other unrelated issues). From my brief searching online, this doesn't seem like a typical side effect of Zoloft.
Avatar f tn my doctor wants me to start on zoloft...any one else take it during pregnancy and what is or was your dose? when i read online about it i am pretty sure they dont recommend using it in tyour 3rd trimester though? any feedback would be helpful...
Avatar f tn Zoloft is the safest SSRI in pregnancy which is in the same category as paxil. The best thing the dr can do is keep you on the paxil, add zoloft, wait 2 weeks then slowly decrease the paxil while increasing the zoloft. This should take approx 1 month or longer to do so that you do not experience any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn s a side effect of the Zoloft or a withdrawal effect. Switching to another drug even in the same category will not be equivalent, as they target different receptors and don't work the same. We all react differently to meds, so one person's stimulating med is another's sedating med, but we all need to be careful about stopping these meds.
Avatar f tn I took Zoloft throughout my entire pregnancy. My dosage was 75mg. Zoloft is the most widely used medication of this type used in pregnancy and breastfeeding. I am not going to tell you to start up without talking to a Dr, but I am telling you is that most Dr's agree that it is safe for use in pregnancy. Good luck!!!
Avatar f tn Pregnancy Category D is a stronger warning than a pregnancy Category C classification. However, a pregnancy Category D medicine may still be given to a pregnant woman if the health care provider believes that the benefits to the woman outweigh the possible risks to the unborn child. Klonopin was given a pregnancy Category D rating due to the problems it caused in animal studies.
190885 tn?1333025891 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a Category C drug during pregnancy. Although the drug may be determined necessary and prescribed by a physician during a pregnancy, there are several risks which should be considered. Also, if you are trying to become pregnant or become pregnant while taking the medication, please consult with your doctor.
Avatar n tn m not sure what the highest dose of Anafranil is but there are many other medications for OCD (many in the same category as Anafranil which are SSRI anti-depressents such as Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc. that are also used for OCD) so you might want to speak to your psychiatrist about potentially changing you to another medication if Anafranil doesn't work anymore.
Avatar f tn ll be able to remain relatively-anxiety free in the long run. Before the pregnancy, I had plans to start tapering off Zoloft anyway, however, it seems more scary now that I know I'm pregnant. Has anyone had experience with tapering while pregnant? My apologies for the long post!
250155 tn?1485295939 No. Effexor is a very stimulating antidepressant for the reasons I mentioned above. Zoloft is an ssri, not an snri -- it only targets serotonin. It would usually be considered a better category of drug, assuming you need a drug at all, if anxiety is your main problem.
Avatar f tn My Dr has switched me from Zoloft 100mg to Wellbutrin XL 300mg because after 6-7 years it seems the Zoloft isn't having the same helpful affects on me that it used to. I asked about upping the dosage but he said it would be better to switch to Wellbutrin. My concern is that he is wanting me to switch same day, no tapering off or cross tapering. Take Zoloft today and and then stop tomorrow and start Wellbutrin in the morning. Am I looking forward to some tough withdrawal?
Avatar f tn Im currently taking 100mg of zoloft for the past 3 weeks, started at 50 mg first week. I weigh115lbs. Ive read the following "correct dosages vary from drug to drug, based on your weight and severity of symptoms". Does anyone know this info for Zoloft? Im thinking about increasing the dose because im not feeling any difference yet? Comments are much appreciated..
