I agree with Nysff that you should NEVER just stop taking a medication like that. Zoloft can have some wicked side effects when stopped cold turkey.
And, to answer your question about the Zoloft and it "not working" if stopped and retaken, I think you may have misinterpreted the advice. Usually psychotropic medications like Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, etc - take a while to build up in your systom to properly work.
Well, sometimes it's not a bad idea to get a new look on things by seeing a different psychiatrist. I don't know how far into your education you are, but if it's early in your college stay you're going to need help from time to time. If you're adamant about not seeing another shrink, try setting up a telephone appointment with you doc at home. There could be several things happening. It could be the drugs just aren't working as well anymore.
You saying you are an impatient person does not mean diddly. Just because you are impatient does not mean the medication is going to work faster for you. The reality is because you are impatient, you need to find things to occupy your mind. Start an exercise program, practice meditation, get outside and chop some wood. Anything that is going to take you away from sitting in your house feeling sorry for yourself. Like I said, we have all been where you are.
I have been taking lysine for 15 years and it has always prevented me from getting mouth ulcers and fever blisters however in the last three to four months it is not working anymore does anyone have any idea why and also could my body have built up a tolerance to it and should I quit taking it for a while?
Prozac worked for me for years. But now i find I need something different and this Zoloft is working GREAT. I also take 2 15mg of Buspar 2 x a day. I use Lorazapam right now also which helps. One things I started faitfully a year ago was doing guided meditation every day! Gael Chirella has some great ones out there. At first i couldn't even relax with them at all, but I just kept up with.

I have been taking Zoloft 75 mg in the morning and Xanax SR 1 mg for one year now and I think that the medication might not be working for me anymore. I wake up feeling very groggy and often in a bad mood. In the afternoon, I feel like I am floating and I cant focus, my thoughts seem to be racing. I even find think my speech becomes slower. What should I do? Do you think I should ask my doctor for a new medication?
Hey my names Amanda and I'm 19. I've been suffering from migranes for the past 5 or 6 years now. I've tried medicines like imetrex and preventitives, but nothing works. Also, within the past couple years or so I've had other symptoms. Almost everyday I get a small to medium headache (not a migrane), I get really dizzy and light headed, nauseous, hot flashes, rapid heart beat, and I always feel tired. Occasionally my fingers and toes will get tingly and numb too.
I've been taking zoloft for more than ten years, my question is does zoloft stop working after so many years? Pls help i've been in bad shape for quite a while, and I need answers!
Why do you want to come off of Zoloft?

You're very depressed. If Zoloft isn't working anymore perhaps you could try something different or in addition to Zoloft. If you're suicidal, going without medication definitely isn't the answer.
I hope I did not increase my dose too early, but on the eight week mark on the 75 mg I was still having anxious feelings everyday. Not like before Zoloft, but not nearly as good as I had felt for five years on the 50 mg dose. I was having to really work hard to ignore it and correct negative thoughts, it seemed to be getting a little worse. I thought it was time to get it under control.
