Zoloft not working

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft not working

zoloft

Avatar f tn I started Zoloft around Febuary of this year, after stopping Prozac due to my inability to handle its side effects. Zoloft worked amazingly for about 5-6 months, and now in early October I'm finding that my depression, anxiety, and apathy are all returning. I'm continuing to take my Zoloft, which is at 50mg a day, but I'm going through unable to enjoy ANYTHING. could Zoloft not be working anymore? I don't know what to do. I just want something that works for as long as I take it.
Avatar f tn No not yet i have an app in a couple of days
Avatar f tn You saying you are an impatient person does not mean diddly. Just because you are impatient does not mean the medication is going to work faster for you. The reality is because you are impatient, you need to find things to occupy your mind. Start an exercise program, practice meditation, get outside and chop some wood. Anything that is going to take you away from sitting in your house feeling sorry for yourself. Like I said, we have all been where you are.
970463 tn?1294557762 I want to know if mine is stopping. I'm not depressed, I have anxiety. I worry to the point of vomiting. The first one I had, I was on BC, then later off BC in 2007 I miscarried and that's when I got on zoloft. Since then, I've had maybe 3 a year, each was after child birth, after moving, or after birthdays and Christmas ... they come from no where and last for a week or 2.
Avatar f tn I agree with Nysff that you should NEVER just stop taking a medication like that. Zoloft can have some wicked side effects when stopped cold turkey. And, to answer your question about the Zoloft and it "not working" if stopped and retaken, I think you may have misinterpreted the advice. Usually psychotropic medications like Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, etc - take a while to build up in your systom to properly work.
Avatar f tn You can't expect any medication to get rid of all your problems -- some are lucky and get that effect, but most still have problems, just not as bad. It sounds like the Zoloft is working, but it isn't a cure, just a treatment for your symptoms. And it should work better over time, but only if you work on your anxiety as you have been doing in therapy or some other way so you don't think the way you're currently conditioned to do.
Avatar f tn Well, sometimes it's not a bad idea to get a new look on things by seeing a different psychiatrist. I don't know how far into your education you are, but if it's early in your college stay you're going to need help from time to time. If you're adamant about not seeing another shrink, try setting up a telephone appointment with you doc at home. There could be several things happening. It could be the drugs just aren't working as well anymore.
1100140 tn?1260594269 Honestly, this is a very good thing...just one of the positive effects of the Zoloft. Like silverberg said...try not to focus so much on your heart rate, and try not to take your pulse so much...that just adds to your anxiety!
Avatar f tn thank you for responses. it is so helpful to hear from other people.
1574975 tn?1317072090 hello again, i started the zoloft in may. im not sure if its working or not. i guess it is, i have small "flare-ups" now and again. its usually right before my period..im the kind of person that allows there anxieties to swallow them whole, by anxieties i mean my thoughts. i get caught in the pattern of thinking and thinking until it consumes me, it happens every few months. but thats when i take the ativan. horray for that!
11638679 tn?1457985940 The first couple of times i drank on zoloft nothing happened. But after this weekend i noticed the zoloft has completely stopped working and all my weird anxiety symptoms are coming back, Will the zoloft kick back in soon? did i make it permanently stop working? I am never drinking again for a very very long time. I'm just stressed out that the zoloft will never work again :(.
4981427 tn?1371670469 I have recently been in a bad bout of anxiety following some stressful events and a bout with the flu. I previously was not taking my zoloft properly (huge mistake) . I started taking it again for the about five weeks now. 50mg once a day for the first 4 weeks then i've been on 100mg for a little over a week. I'm finally THANK YOU JESUS starting to see the subtle improvements.
20632981 tn?1503687567 re taking wellbutrin and Zoloft together and think the wellbutrin is working but not the Zoloft. See my response to your other post for my thoughts about this, but you do need to clear up the confusion as to what you're doing now so people here can help better.
Avatar n tn Different meds will affect you differently. That's just how it is. Also, because Effexor also works on norepinephrine receptors it can be very stimulating; it's more of an antidepressant than an anti-anxiety med, though many have found help from it for anxiety. It may just not be your med, whereas Zoloft was. As for the sexual thing, that's pretty common with all the snris and ssris -- it can happen with Effexor just as easily as with Zoloft for some people, so there you go.
7196584 tn?1389166823 Would you say it decreased your anxiety a certain amount, like 40%? 50%? Did you just run into the issue of the Zoloft not being as effective anymore? That's also a pretty common occurrence that most times is pretty easily remedied with a dosage increase. If your Zoloft hasn't been increased in a long time, that may be what you need, I would discuss that with your doctor. As far as the Ativan goes, your doctor is right.
Avatar f tn And Paxilled is right, do NOT quit Zoloft cold turkey. Talk with your doc.
1176924 tn?1263760300 There should be health care coverage options where you might be able to afford it. If you are not working you might qualify for Medicaid. If you do and don't have it right now you could qualify for emergency Medicaid and then have that transition to straight Medicaid. If you are working and your state has that option you might qualify for the Medicaid Buy in for Working People with Disabilities.
Avatar f tn I would see if the Zoloft works or not -- sometimes drugs that worked for us don't work again after you stop them, or don't work for a period of time after you stop. Paxil is well known for this, and you seem to be having this problem with Zoloft.
Avatar n tn Thanks so much for sharing your success storiy. We don't get to enjoy the "good" outcomes nearly as much as we should...for good reason...people who get better aren't inclined to keep posting, although I wish they would. I've also had great success with Zoloft. Zoloft has one of the better track records among SSRI's for treating anxiety/panic disorders effectively and overall, most patients tolerate it pretty well. Thanks again for sharing! Best wishes...
Avatar f tn ve recently started going to church..3times last week! Not sure if its that or the Zoloft finally working but I feel completely different this last week from any the past weeks that this all started! I talked to my Dr. and am goin to ween myself off the Zoloft and he's goin to put me on another antidepressant when she's born that is safe to nurse with (starts with an E but can't remember what it's called) I'm only goin to nurse for a couple wks anyway.
Avatar n tn No serious life event has happened, in fact everything has been going quite well but all i want to do is sleep. Can zoloft stop working this fast? Or are lows still to be expected?
Avatar m tn Down the road you may find that you need a different med due to unbearable side effects or you were at the highest dose safe and it was not working or it stopped working. There are many meds out there. Research any med you take so you will be knowledgable about that med. You will find the info very easy on the Internet. Everyone is different. Advocate for yourself. I am glad you are starting to feel better. Some meds take 4-6 weeks for their full effect.
Avatar m tn the first 2 weeks I took zoloft it felt like it was working. Now, I'm up to 75mg and I feel as though it's not working as well. Last year I was on Effexor and then got off it for a year. Effexor helped my anxiety and depression greatly, but I suffered from alot of sexual side-effects. Now, I'm on the zoloft, but I feel like it's not working as well as it did a few weeks ago. In 3 days I go up to 100mg. Should I give the zoloft more time?
