Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft for ocd treatment

zoloft

Avatar f tn Glad you found a neurologist to help you with your OCD and ADD. It sounds like an interesting approach, walking backwards and using the left side of the body and so forth. I think it will do the same thing as exposure, where it makes the mind shift into better working order. And even tho medication helps a lot, if you can do without it, that's great. That omega-3 the doc suggested is indeed good for fine-tuning mental processes.
Avatar f tn What are the best medications for OCD, and has anyone had success with prozac for OCD?
Avatar m tn I'm prescribed 50mg Zoloft, do you think on a day where my OCD is heavily bothering me, that it be a problem to take two 50MG doses?
Avatar m tn My wife has mild OCD and has problems with obsessisive thoughts, perfectionist tendencies and mood swings. We're looking for some advice on medications that are known to be effective in treating these symptoms. She's been on Effexor for a couple of years which has been tremendously successful but she had to stop taking it recently, (due to it causing high blood pressure), and we discovered the dark, ugly side of this medication.
Avatar n tn Hi , just letting you know that the best treatment I have found for OCD after being a Zoloft user is Efexor. You do not go into any "zones" or tiredness, you just feel good with energy. Of course you have your good and bad days, but things don't seem too extreme. It was recommended to me by a friend who has OCD then another friend I knew who had OCD as well. I have helped one of my friends who changed to it and it has changed her life dramatically.
Avatar f tn i am on zoloft 75mg and have been breaking out in a rash since i started taking it in april but am just now realizing it could be the zoloft. does anyone have any experiance with this or can recommend another medicine that may work for my ocd and anxiety. my ocd is the scary thoughts and it was all caused after a major surgery i went through. it is getting better but i still have some issues.
Avatar f tn t think that it is prescribed as much for OCD as the SSRIs but it does seem to work for me. I have not gained a bunch of weight and it doesn't kill a person's sex drive like the others do. Maybe worth a discussion with your prescribing doctor.
Avatar m tn My OCD is centered around irrational thinking and it took Wellbutrin about 4 weeks before it really started to kick in for me so I'm guessing that Zoloft will be the same.
Avatar f tn Try Zoloft for OCD it's been a lifesaver for me the differance is night and day. I had OCD so bad I would clean my small apartment 2-3x a day for hours and hours I stopped eating, sleeping and working to futill the need to clean but it was never ending until I went on the Zoloft Good Luck hope it helps!
3159640 tn?1430907300 Hello, anyone try Inositol for OCD and if so is there a recommended brand to purchase online?
Avatar f tn I am a 30 year old female that has suffered from depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD since childhood. I have been on at least 7 different medications over the years that have and have not worked for various symptoms; however, I can't find one that works for them all. I have been taking 50 mg of Zoloft for about 3 years and it works great for my depression and the best thing I've ever taken for my OCD, but my anxiety is worse than it has ever been.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with OCD for 2 to 3 years now and on Zoloft. My initial fear used to be I was becoming a murderer and now it is that I'll develop schizophrenia. Im constantly paying attention to my perceptions and senses, making sure I'm not hallucinating hearing or seeing something. For awhile now I've had optical illusions where I'll see something out of the corner of my eye and think it's something else.
Avatar f tn have a 5 year old son (only child) who was diagnosed with adhd and placed on adderal 5 mg. it has not worked so we have taken him off. he has also been diagnosed with ocd for constantly peeling the skin off his thumbs/fingers and now starting on his toes. the dr wants to place him on zoloft to treat the ocd. will this help with the adhd in school?? He is very smart and ahead of his class but cannot wait his turn and blurts, etc. Very active and constantly moving.
1665434 tn?1365238898 i have ocd i have been put on zoloft for about a year now at 200mg i have been on theses tables before and went off them but as i said i am back on them a year now and feeling very bad what should i do
Avatar f tn I posted this in the Anxiety forum, but hoped I'd get some help from here. I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately.
Avatar f tn I take Klonopin for dystonic spasms. I have taken it for 10 years. I haven't really had a problem with it. A person just has to take it responsibly as prescribed. As for Zoloft I haven't taken anti-depressents for use for ocd and can't because I have the bipolar aspect of schizoaffective but I have some remaining obsessive symptoms that might respond to them. If you want to know about the SSRI anti-depressents like Zoloft "Depression Central" is a good site.
411032 tn?1202665491 I also agree that you brought up being gay for a reason. Maybe deep down you feel guilty for being gay for some reason or another, and this is an issue you need to deal with.
3161914 tn?1344102618 i know there has been a lot of focus on the involvement of excess glutamate in the brain in relation to ocd and depression. So far i've tried 3 different anti depressants which have had negative results. I am not sold yet on the serotonin theory. I appreciate the reply.
Avatar m tn Hi just wondering if anyone here had good results on respidone for ocd urges and instrusive thoughts. Zoloft just didnt cut it for me so now to respidone.
Avatar f tn The only medications I have tried for OCD is Paxil and Zoloft. I had to go off Paxil because it made me gain a lot of weight. The Zoloft works, but only at a really high dose, 300mg. If you also combine it with a benzo, like Kolonopin, I find it works fairly well. There are 6 or 7 SSRI medications that treat OCD. Most of these have to be on high dosages to help with OCD specificially. I'm sorry that none of those medications worked for you.
Avatar f tn I was hospitalized and my psychiatrist is now figuring out which drug I should take next. I have OCD and depression and have been in therapy since I was 7. I have taken the following drugs over the course of the past 9 years (not in order): Luvox Zoloft Cymbalta Effexor Wellbutrin Anafranil Prozac Seroquel Ritalin Orap Lithium Topamax Risperal I can't understand why none of them have any effect on me. Do you have any suggestions? Help!
Avatar m tn I have OCD and have the weird sensitivity that you mentioned. Every time I touch or hear something that bothers me I have to make my hands into a fist and apply pressure to the tips of my fingers. I've had this problem all my life though- I've never done any drugs. I've been on Zoloft for depression/OCD and even if my OCD improves, the sensitivity always persists. I will say this though, the sensitivity bothers me a lot more when I'm more stressed.
Avatar m tn Doctor prescribed me Zoloft (well the generic) and I started taking it yesterday. 50 mgs for the first week then if all is well 100 mgs. Today my pupils have been huge all day. Was also a little jittery and felt weird. Anyone else on Zoloft? What about the pupils? This is my first time taking an SSRI.
Avatar m tn My doctor feels that this continual checking of my breathing is a form of OCD and for which he prescribed 25mg Zoloft with the option to up the dose in a week. For the first few days everything was fine, a new med and so a new solution. After 1 week, I'm back to where I was before I started the meds. The doctor told me that the Zoloft is supposed to mentally make me shrug-off the focus and start sleeping. Can anyone tell me if this is how Zoloft works on OCD?
Avatar m tn Hi guys this is really weird. For the past 2 weeks I have been taking Zoloft for my depression whether it's the Zoloft or not my depression has started to get better I've had a few symptoms like nausea but nothing serious. This morning though a really weird and disturbing thought came into my head. It was like my brain was telling me I should kill myself. It wasn't actual voices like schizophrenia is but It was kind of like an idea.
3159640 tn?1430907300 I tried Zoloft and Celexa and found that in the end cipralex is currently the best option for me. Like JG said, it is trial and error. If you find one is not working for you, talk to you dr and try another.
Avatar n tn But absolutely treatment, consisting of both therapy and medication, will be required if OCD is ultimately diagnosed. The most effective form of therapy for OCD is cognitive-behavioral treatment, and the medication is usually one of the serotonergic medications, such as Prozac (fluoxetine) or Zoloft (sertraline).
