Zoloft for mild depression

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft for mild depression

zoloft

Avatar n tn My daughter (15 years old) has been recently prescribed 50mg Zoloft for mild depression. I am very scared that this is not the right way to deal with the problems that she has and in particular scared of side effects and withdrawal dramas eventually. Do you have any suggestions how I could help her deal with depression without the medication and is Zoloft very dangerous to start with?
Avatar f tn I tried Zoloft when I was a teenager for depression and sleep issues. It did great for the sleep issue. Clonopin I have not taken. But have not heard anything good. I did not like Paxil at all as a female, It killed all want and desire. I personally like Lexapro. It manages both depression and anxiety. Like most other RX's it take 3 to 6 weeks to get fully in your system. Mean while xanax during the 3 to 6 period of time. What I judge a medication on is this: Am I groggy?
5255779 tn?1414034937 There have been commercials for zoloft causing birth defects. I stopped taking mine immediately when me and my boyfriend decided to try for a baby. Now im 20 weeks and 2 days.
Avatar f tn I was taking pristiqe for depression and anxiety I'm 6 wks today and as soon as I found out I was pregnant the Dr. Made me switch over to Zoloft for depression. I've heard nothing but horrible things about Zoloft. Is there anyone that has takin it during their pregnancy? What is your opinion and experience?
958812 tn?1268764172 i have mild to acute depression and acute anxiety. i was on low dose of effexor for 6 months and stopped when i got pregnant. sadly, my husband and i miscarried (we don't know if the effexor had anything to do with it). we are now trying to conceive but my anxiety and depression is surfacing again. i've heard that zoloft, especially a low dose, is a lot safer to take than effexor. if anyone has taken it during pregnancy please give me some feed back. i want to make an educated decision.
Avatar f tn So, I am curious to know if any of you were on medication for anxiety or depression and still take it now while pregnant. I stopped but noticed it's very hard on my off days to even associate with ppl. I talked to my doctor and she said she knew ppl that took their meds all throughout their pregnancy and had absolutely no problems.
Avatar f tn What works for some, does not work for others. For example, Zoloft works very well for me, while others do not like it. Regardless of which SSRI you take it is imperative that you go off these medications slowly to minimize withdrawal. If it is done correctly, it usually is not a big deal whatsover, however, if you quit cold turkey it can cause a myriad of problems. My suggestion, would be to get back in touch with you doc and explain the situation.
4380186 tn?1355930258 Depends how bad your depression is. I would advise you to stay on Setraline, as remar above says. St John's Wort not proved effective for depression, although it has been advertised as good for mild depression. Don't stop you anti-depressant without consulting a doctor.
Avatar f tn I met with the DR today where I go to counseling. She is starting me on zoloft for mild depression and anxiety. Anyone have any info on taking this during treatment? She said I'd be fine taking during tx but wanted to hear from everyone here. Also she said this might help with sleep but probably not. Has anyone noticed it helping with sleep? The other med she is considering which helps with mild depression, sleep but not so much anxiety is trazadone.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking 100mg of Zoloft for mild depression and irritability. I had loved it apart from the sexual side effects. Wish to God there was an SSRI without those side effects. I had been feeling happier, more focused, and even had more energy. But... in the past month I have been increasingly angry. Wondering if anyone experiences the drug wearing off throughout the day. Seems like I get irritable at night. Thanks for your input.
Avatar f tn The primary doctor said i have virual virus do to allergies, so i saw my doctor who precribed me the Zoloft he said not take zoloft for two weeks until i get better from this virual virus then try the zoloft again if you have reaction to it stop the zoloft then wait a week and try different medicine called citalpram 20mm. i am so sacred to taking any medicine because i am so sentitive to medicine anyway.
Avatar m tn This is going to be kind of stupid to ask because I'm sure nearly all of you have been prescribed zoloft for depression, if you've been prescribed it before... but how did zoloft work for your anxiety? They prescribed me some during my hospital stay for my anxiety. I'm already less jittery but feeling anxious a bit still but I know that will take a week or so to take full effect.
Avatar f tn He also gave me Flexeril( a muscle relaxer) and Restoril mild sleeping pill. My internist put me on Zoloft 150mg a day and he also put me on Norco for the break through pain. I do use Lidoderm patches also for my lower back and knees. Give your meds a couple of days to get into your system, sometimes it's hit and miss until they find the right combination that works for you.
Avatar m tn I switched from Zoloft because it caused mild E.D. that went away when I started on Welbutrin. All is fine down south now. However, I do not get much in the way of euphoria when I smoke pot. My depression is considerably less but my creativity and euphoria are almost gone. I was publishing good stuff in literary journals and now no creative juices flow. I'm going to quit Welbutrin and go back to being depressed unless you can suggest an alternative.
94902 tn?1330479667 I have only had anxiety in the past, so this was my first run in with depression. When I was on Zoloft before I had mild night sweats, but now that I am on 100mg I wake up at night and have SOAKED the sheets! I'm not hot though - I wake up cold bc of the sweat and the fan is on. Does anyone else have trouble with night sweats with Zoloft or other meds?
Avatar f tn t know much about cymbalta other then my mom was on it for mild depression at one time and sleep issues and she loved it. i hope i made the right choice. should i be worried about this are just let it go but the thing is that i just don't know what to look for if it does cause issues like the above concern.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Well I just saw my Dr. recently for another issue and he asked how my moods have been. Have I gotten anymore depression. I told him my depression follows a certain cycle like, I'll feel fine for a week, then feel depressed and tearful for 4-5 days, then I'll feel fine, then be depressed. It's like that every month. He told me Zoloft was an intermmitent antidepressant that can be taken on an as needed basis.
Avatar n tn It may help with the depression that often accompanies the withdrawals...
940642 tn?1336063511 I am taking 75 mg Zoloft for depression/anxiety. I was up to 100 mg for a while. I am feeling a lot better than I was months ago, but I am experiencing more and more sexual dysfunction (erectal dys., and retarded ejaculation). I was wondering if the negative side effects of the drug increase in your body as your brain starts to need less of the drug? While I'm asking, how slowly do you start to taper off the meds? I did it once before, without advice, much too quickly.
Avatar n tn I've been on 50mg Zoloft for about 6 years now (for depression). It was working pretty well- just mild insomnia (& no sex-drive!). About 6 months ago, I was woken up by my first (ever in my life) panic attack & ended up in the ER. I've managed to keep them at bay with the help of Xanax and thought I had stopped having them after 3 episodes, but now they're coming back.
Avatar f tn ve recently been diagnosed with mixed anxiety/depression, and the zoloft/klonopin combo works for me. i take 2x50mg Zoloft per day, and 1mg Klonopin. Talk to your doctor, and see what he/she has to say about your case. Generally, SSRIs are tricky. For eg., I tried Mirtazipine, Citalopram, Effexor before I found that Zoloft suits me! Best of luck. Oh, and try some CBT as well, it helps :-) take care, now!
1058304 tn?1257042315 I have had depression for many years and have been taking zoloft only. Up until recently I have never had depression bad enough to have physical effects. I didnt even know about the physical effects of depression. My depression and anxiety have gotten severe over the past few months. Today my doctor told me to keep taking the zoloft and he also told me to start taking welbutrin 150 xl. Supposed to effect different parts or chemicals of the brain.
Avatar f tn I feel hopeless without reason a lot, and it frustrates the hell out of me. If therapy alone isn't helping, you need to try the meds. My depression started when I was 15, and here I am now at 23 barely able to function most days, but I've learned in this long period what should not be done, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. On the medication part, I'd try Zoloft first.
Avatar f tn My husband was on Zoloft a few years ago,it didn't work for him,but that doesn't mean it won't work for you.I can remember his doctor telling us he would need to be on it for 2 weeks before he would really be able to feel whether it was working for him or not.I think the important thing is to keep good communication with your doctor and if the medication is not helping you the way you wish to be helped by it let him/her know as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn thank you for responses. it is so helpful to hear from other people.
