Zoloft dosage for depression

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft dosage for depression

Avatar n tn Hi There I suffer from depression and am on 200mg Zoloft daily. I increased my dosage after giving birth to my daughter because I (of course) had antenatal depression. Every day I wake up with nervous tension and it is driving me nuts! I was wondering if this is because I am taking a high dosage of Zoloft? I am scared to go down because I don't want to be in that depressive place.
Avatar m tn Hello I've been taking Zoloft for 11 years for ocd. It's manageable but I still have issues. I'm only taking 50 mg. is that enough?
Avatar f tn Im currently taking 100mg of zoloft for the past 3 weeks, started at 50 mg first week. I weigh115lbs. Ive read the following "correct dosages vary from drug to drug, based on your weight and severity of symptoms". Does anyone know this info for Zoloft? Im thinking about increasing the dose because im not feeling any difference yet? Comments are much appreciated..
Avatar f tn Also I have been taking a trazodone 50 mg at night and it really was a struggle to sleep when it usually knocks me out. Is it the Zoloft dosage increase?
Avatar m tn As ParamedFlorena mentioned, it's wise to ALWAYS consult your doctor before adjusting your dosages. I used to take Zoloft many years ago and my dosage was 150Mgs a day. I took it for clinical depression and anxiety and it was effective. Depending on the person and the exact condition, Zoloft is usually prescribed from 50Mgs up to as much as 200Mgs a day. This all depends on factors such as the patients tolerance to SSRI's and the severity of the condition being treated.
Avatar f tn My doctor just put me on 100 mg of zoloft for anxitey/stress/depression. I really dont know if i need that high of a dosage. He also told me when it was time to get off of them that i could just stop taking them and i would be fine? I have always herd that you need to gradually do it expecially since i am on 100 mg. Does anyone know anything about this?
Avatar f tn I'm 32 weeks pregnant and started getting anxiety attacks 3 weeks ago and now I'm depressed as well. The doctor wants to put me on Zoloft but I don't think it's safe for the baby. Has anyone taken Zoloft well pregnant and was your baby ok?
Avatar m tn Hi! If you were feeling extreme fatigue before starting Zoloft, then either the dose is not enough or the extreme fatigue is due to causes other than depression (such as anemia, diabetes, hypothyroidism etc). If this symptom started after taking Zoloft then please inform your doctor immediately. I sincerely hope you will find this information useful. Hope you feel better soon! Good Luck and take care!
Avatar f tn My doctor's instructions were to go all the way up to the maximum dose of zoloft because he believes that my combination of depression, anxiety, PTSD and bulimia might simply be treatment resistant. I've been on zoloft twice before, but never at a dose any higher than 150mg. I've been on the 200mg dose of zoloft for five weeks now, and though I had initial side effects they did go away.
Avatar f tn i have been taking zoloft for 10 years for chronic major depression and it worked for me. from my experience, it usually takes more than a month to become effective. maybe 2-3 month before i become better and functioning again.
9266905 tn?1402812481 Hi! I hope you are feeling better! I have so many questions myself and just started a small dose of Zoloft Being on it before I do know it took like two weeks to start really working. I also know that when you increase, it should be in smaller increments. I'm not a doctor but why would he have you double your dose? Yikes? Some of the side effects can cause you more worry! Believe me..... I think I have every deadly thing going on in my body right now.
Avatar f tn I tried Zoloft when I was a teenager for depression and sleep issues. It did great for the sleep issue. Clonopin I have not taken. But have not heard anything good. I did not like Paxil at all as a female, It killed all want and desire. I personally like Lexapro. It manages both depression and anxiety. Like most other RX's it take 3 to 6 weeks to get fully in your system. Mean while xanax during the 3 to 6 period of time. What I judge a medication on is this: Am I groggy?
Avatar n tn My 15 year old son was prescribed 50mg of Zoloft for depression and suicidal thoughts. He also has a lot of anxiety issues. He's been on the meds almost 4 weeks now and I'm not seeing much change in his moods. And he has stated he doesn't feel much better. We have an appt with our family Dr tomorrow. Should we ask to.change meds or up the dosage maybe??
4170713 tn?1350582710 I have been on zoloft for over a month and for the last week my anxiety has been real bad and I get real irritated. My chest feels weird which makes me freak out more. I was on celexa for years and it stopped working. I was put on effexor and it put me in a deep depression. Now I've been on 50 mg of zoloft for over a month....I'm thinking of getting off of it to...
Avatar f tn thanks for the response. anyone taking zoloft? at this point i want to take an anti-depressant that works and doesn't upset my stomach. when i increased the Prozac to 40mg, my stomach objected. I can't tolerate most of the drugs even thought i take meds for my stomach to help with the pain.
Avatar f tn While there is no 'magic pill' for anxiety and depression, I am a firm believer in them while combined with talk therapy with a mental health professional. I actually prefer Zoloft and it has been quite effective for me. I work out 6 times a week, running between 6-8 miles a day, and it has never posed a problem for me physically. Remember to be patient with it and take it as prescribed. These types of medications take about a month or so to 'kick in.
Avatar f tn Zoloft affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression, panic, anxiety, or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Zoloft is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Avatar n tn Hi have been on zoloft for 12 years and abruptly stpped 4 months ago. I developed very profound panic attacks. I then started avoiding and slipped into a very severe depression. Before I started taking Zoloft I never had panic. Why Now?? Yes, I was somewhat depressed but now Im a mess and had to return to the drug. Can anyone help me with why all the panic attacks?
1173196 tn?1292920090 I've been taking anti-depressants for about 7 years, zoloft for the last 3. When I got pregnant, I researched it online and everything said that it should be discontinued after 28 weeks because it can cause hypertension in a newborn. I asked all 3 of my midwives, and they each told me that there was no danger in continueing zoloft for the entire pregnancy and even while breastfeeding. I've already cut my dose by half anyway. Is anyone else on zoloft or has anyone taken during their pregnancy?
Avatar n tn Hi I am on 150 for about 4 weeks, but I have been on zoloft for 8 weeks total. I was on it for 7 years and quit taking it because I thought I was better, It really came back bad, I cannot even sleep this time, I have never had that happen before. Im hoping it will work!
Avatar f tn I don't know what your current dosage of Zoloft is, but lets say your taking 150Mgs a day for example. You will start first by lowering to 100Mgs a day. Take this 100 a day for the next two weeks. Then after the second week drop down to 50 a day. You can do this by breaking the tablets in half or if you have 50 Mg tabs...Well you get the point. Then stay on 50mgs a day for one more week. After this one week is up, then go 50Mgs of Zoloft every other day for 8 to 10 days.
Avatar f tn I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately. I'm at 100 mg now (for almost 7 weeks) and it hasn't gotten much better. I aslo take .5 mg of lorazapam twice a day.
440680 tn?1205685975 i had diarrea, a really bad headache, and felt extremely sleepy which really sucks cause i get up at 6am everydday for school. however, zoloft benefited me in a few ways. i didnt really feel anything after that point and i didnt really feel as depressed. currently, id say the depression is almost gone. after i took the pill for a few weeks, my feelings were completely numb. i didnt have anymore uncomforting thoughts or panic attacks, and i became more aware of the poeple around me.
Avatar n tn Zoloft is NOT used for smoking cessation - Zoloft is almost exclusively used for depression, though sometimes it can be used for chronic pain as the pain often depletes the body's ability to deal with stress. Zoloft is typically used for long periods of time - 3-6 months or longer, and like most anti-depressenta, it takes 2-3 weeks til the benefits start to be felt. I believe your Doctor made a mistake giving you Zoloft. It will not work to help quit smoking.
Avatar f tn Zoloft definitely has a proven track record in treating anxiety disorders. Many medications actually are approved by the FDA for multiple uses and while it may not have originally been 'designed' for anxiety, it can be prescribed long term for treatment purposes. Benzos like Xanax are usually prescribed short term on as needed basis...Xanax has a fairly short half life and can become addictive if used on a regular basis for a long period of time in my opinion.
Avatar n tn My husband has been taking Zoloft for the last two years. Life has been wonderful since he has been on the drug. BUT, one of the side effects is lack of sex drive. As you can imagine this has become a very big problem. What can we do? What can we do to get at least half of it back without him going off Zoloft? Please help!!!
Avatar m tn you may have missed out on a genuine treatment for your anxiety and depression. You are headed in the right direction by seeing a p-doc. They can help to formulate a treatment plan that is right for YOU. You have to go in there with an open mind, willing to listen to a few different attack plans. Be very honest with the doc about your history of anxiety, what you've tried, as well as your history of abuse. Personally....the Xanax is not a good idea for you..
Avatar m tn I was just prescribed zoloft (50mg) for anxiety and depression. I haven't started taking it yet because I'm afraid that: 1. I'll become addicted to it 2. If I have to stop taking it (tapering off of it versus stopping cold turkey) that I won't be able to and/or I'll experience all the withdraw symptoms Is 50mg too much? The pharmacist who filled my medication said that it would help initially and then could make the symptoms worse, has anyone experienced this?
Avatar n tn It's very frustrating and depressing....and I'm not even taking zoloft for depression! I tried to wean myself slowly last month, but my anxiety became so intense I thought I would crawl out of my own skin. I told this to my dr. who responded by upping the dosage, which hasn't helped. I just want to be done with anti-depressants as they've not helped...in fact, I think they've just added more problems.
Avatar m tn My psych feels the mirtazapine was not effective for my anxiety (based on 18 days at 30 mg) He says the energizing feeling I was getting would be great for depression, but not helpful for anxiety (this is my problem). he also says I could treat my anxiety with klon only. But this would be a bit more dangerous over a long period of time. Hence, the reason he added an SSRI. My psych has added (Zoloft) sertraline starting at 12.5 mg, to move up to 25 mg in a week, then 50 mg a week after that.
