Common Questions and Answers about Zantac with infants

zantac

Avatar f tn I feel Gerd and milk allergy are grossly overdiagnosed in infants. Lactose overload has been diagnosed in breast-fed infants now - and I believe it is also found in babies.
1330108 tn?1333677304 Hey I just saw in your intro post that your little girl has GERD. My baby girl also has it. Zantac didn't work for her so now she is on Prevacid. We have her in our room yet to sleep because I am afraid to put her in her room in case she spits up and has one of her "choking" episodes. I am not sure what you are using for her to sleep in but we just got a fishcer price rock and play which is amazing. It was recommended by her MD and we love it. She sleeps so good in it.
250701 tn?1320974765 I had to give up my proton inhibitor because it might interfere with absorption of one of the drugs. But even with Zantac I have to be careful to take it 10 hours before and 2 hours after dosing with the study drugs. I find that the only way it will help me is if I do not take it near the time of eating. So I try to take it more than an hour after and at least a half hour before eating. I also have to take 150 mg tabs. All of this creates a logistical nightmare.
3055148 tn?1368211800 I love zantac! With my first i got heartburn after EVERYTHING. I couldnt even drink water without getting heartburn. Zantac stopped most of it i then stopped taking 20 tums a day anfld only needed them maybe once every few days (not at all if i remembered to take my zantac first thing in the morning and at night!
3055148 tn?1368211800 I ran out of the 75 mg of zantac but I have equate 150 mg its the same thing as zantac but just the.generic brand. Is it ok to take that?
7349088 tn?1390657733 Has anyone taken zantac during pregnancy for heartburn? I'm 22+5 and have heartburn almost every other day. Sometimes it's so bad that I just want to sleep so i don't feel it.
171768 tn?1324230099 Hi both forums were blended into this one....not too many with infants on this page, but do try the search this community feature and I am sure u will find others. I would advise u to take ur DD to a Ped GI specialist and talk to them about stepping her off the meds. I do know Adults can have a rebound effect if they stop the meds to abruptly. U may need to substitute something in btwn her doses to help fight the rebound .
1628088 tn?1299532090 Hi, my son is 1 month 1/2 old and suffers from reflux. His pediatrician put him on zantac about 2 weeks ago and now again 2 days ago. I'm not seeing much improvements since he is still spitting up and sometimes it just goes back down. I also feel that he has had colic, since he cries out of no where with such a great force. I was mostly breastfeeding and he was drinking formula (similac advance) as well but maybe just about 2 oz. every other feeding.
290867 tn?1333569278 Hey all Julian is 4 months old now and about 2 weeks ago was diagnosed with GERD and a milk protien allergy! I know that there is a Pediatric GERD forum but there is not any traffic! He is on Prevacid ( Zantac did not help him atall) 3x day and he seems to be feeling better on it. He is alos on Carafate 4x a day to coat his Esophagus because it was damaged badly! What are if any side effects of him taking these meds and could there be any long term problems????
672514 tn?1265655141 Sir—With the medications you have listed, there are no interactions with Zantac. In regards to indigestion, the recommended dose of Zantac is to start off with a 75 mg tablet about 30-60 minutes before eating food or drinking any beverage that cause heartburn. Zantac will help in preventing heartburn. The maximum amount to take in one day is 300 mg (4 tablets of 75 mg or 2 tablets of 150 mg). You should not use it for more the 14 days or on a regular basis unless consulting with a physician.
593603 tn?1229378162 Does anyone know if you can take Zantac 75 during your first trimester for heartburn? I took it with my first pregnancy, but it was a lot later in the pregnancy. I am dying here, and need a fix.
Avatar n tn Our Daughter also takes Nexium along with Zantac. She was also diagnosed with Motility disorder( her digestive tract does not function at the proper speed) and takes a drug called Domperidone for that. Does your daughter refuse to eat breakfast or wants it hours after getting up? That is common with people with reflux problems. Definately watch how late at night she eats. If pediasure is what she wants right now, let her drink that. If you don't find the Zantac is working, go back.
Avatar f tn i took my 16 week old daughter to a pedatrician cause she was having spells where she would be fine then she would stiffen up her arms jerk and she would shake causing her to become pale and sleepy she would cry after these episodes they look like seizures but when i took her he was determined it is reflux, she is a little sicky after feeds like most babies but nothing out or ordianary, she is eating like a little piggy no probs with feeding like it hurting her, i can't seem to find any conn
Avatar f tn I took some Zantac and it's not really working. It's severe.
Avatar f tn Only if they suspect any drug use...will they test...but if baby is fine .they wont....If prescribe by doc there should be no problem. ..baby does have withdrawls thou on those meds...suggest stopping any opiate use...
1330108 tn?1333677304 She still spits up but we are having less projectile incidents. I have noticed she seems in less pain with the Zantac but still has symptoms. Though before the Zantac I couldnt breastfeed her she was arching her back and fussing. She had to be bottle fed so she could be upright. She also wasn't strong enough to BF exclusively but since Zantac she can tolerate being in the correct position to BF. I was really concerned that the GERD would stop me from BF.
Avatar f tn Both Tums and Zantac are safe per my doctors though I'd start with Tums (and do not take additional calcium supplements when you are on Tums).
Avatar f tn I recently stopped Pepcid due to dizziness and hallucinations, and found that it had also been the cause of unexplained itching and right leg pain (all subsided when I stopped the med). I have had chest pain on Nexium and zantac. Now that I am on the Prilosec, I am having shortness of breath, chest tightness, dizziness, and malaise. Is this serious? If I have H.
