By taking a medication off prescription and making it OTC the NHS saves money and the pharmaceutical company make more money because presumably more people will by it when they don't need a prescription.
The reason you think Rannitidine is less effective is because the placebo effect has been removed.In fact both drugs are equally effective. Otherwise the generic version would not have been licenced.
Are you prescribed Zantac? Or, are you talking about the OTC preparation? Zantac is a very safe medication, it probably wouldn't be an issue for you to try it...run it by your doc first.
These meds can cause all kinds of GI Upset, so it could very well be the Prozac. Have you ever been diagnosed with GERD? Have you ever just tried taking a few Tums? That may work also. Tums can be very effective, and they are completely safe.
Make sure you are taking the Prozac as prescribed.
After I was out of the first trimester, i was given a script for Pepcid. I was allowed to take OTC zantac, pepcid, etc... but it was cheaper to get a prescription. My daughter did not have any problems at all with reflux.
I am now pregnant with #2. I was surprised that the first trimester wasn't too bad with the heart burn. It came back full force in the second trimester, and I am on pepcid again.

Take some OTC antacid like Mylanta. You can also take zantac(ranitidine)or prilosec (omeprazole).These will help. Also keep your fluid electrolyte balance optimum by drinking lots of fluids.
If the symptoms worsen then it may be due to H.Pylori infection. You need antibiotics in that case after prescription from a physician.

Don't drink with your meals, take tums if your uncomfortable with otc meds and the calcium in them are good for you and baby. I've learned that drinking milk will make heartburn and acid reflux worse because your stomach produces more acid to try to get rid of the fatty coating it leaves in your stomach lining.
I was told do NOT take Prilosec With the new NS5A and NS5B drugs. it's been proven it has an adverse effect. I'm on the Sofosbuvir/5885 and Prilosec is on the Do Not take list. I usually take Zantac and asked if this was ok, and was told during my treatment Zantac was OK. I didn't question the difference but said OK no Prilosec. Anyone on the new Sofosbuvir told this same thing?
I take Prilosec OTC everyday. I been taken it since my first trimester. It helps and safe.
I had preeclamsia at the end of my pregnancy, and was placed on a beta blocker (labelolol 200 mg bid). I also pumped, but after about 3 weeks, my supply died. Did the beta blocker have that effect on my milk or was it my diet?
I also wondered if my taking prilosec had any effect on my son's acid reflux?

I had heartburn really bad to the point I couldn't eat or drink anything without it bothering me. I was taking rantidine OTC but it wasn't working I told my Dr. and he gave me omperazole 40mg and it has worked wonders I can finally eat anything I want.
