Zantac and constipation in infants

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac and constipation in infants

zantac

Avatar f tn I feel Gerd and milk allergy are grossly overdiagnosed in infants. Lactose overload has been diagnosed in breast-fed infants now - and I believe it is also found in babies.
Avatar f tn Well...I had called my family doctor once again because I feared Conner was suffering from both a Milk and Soy intolerance. My doctor finally refered me to a Pediatric GI and I had Conner seen that day. Everything went okay, it's better news than I had expected, but it's still news I was hoping I didn't get. One a good note, Conner is not allergic to soy(thank god). He does however have a severe Milk allergy that he may not outgrow.
Avatar f tn Generally if a child is lactose intolerant they would have diarrhoea rather than constipation, but constipation is quite common in formula fed infants. Your mum is right - if he was sensitive to the lactose in normal formula, he would also be sensitive to cow's milk, but I would doubt that the milk is his problem. Does he drink things other than milk? Will he take water or watered down fruit juice for example? How is his diet generally?
Avatar f tn The constipation and burning could be due to painkillers and opioid drugs. Increasing fiber in diet, taking more of fluids and probiotics will help to some extent. Also you should probably take Omeprazole empty stomach in the morning. However, please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have a 20 year old cat on antibiotic,Zantac 75,Mylanta for constipation,Cerenia for nausea, aluminium hydroxide for Phosphate binder. I am wondering if Tripsy is safe to use and does it help kidney disease symptoms or is it a waste of money?
Avatar f tn My daughter was constipated a lot to the point I could tell she was in pain and I had to use ky jelly and a qtip to "stimulate" her butthole. I know it sounds weird but you just rub it don't really have to penetrate. When they are that young it's hard to give them anything and suppositories even for infants are painful. And if you get her cleaned out good and she backs up again find a specialist. My daughter ended up having a medical condition and needed surgery.
Avatar f tn I have horrible heartburn to where I can feel burning in my throat! I took tums and they aren't helping! Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I have three children who all suffered from constipation as infants. They were all breast fed. Everyones milk supply is different. I have a really small amount of milk that I make. I was never able to produce more than 2 oz at a time. The babies just had more frequent feedings. I think this is why mine went through constipation, or so I thought. A breastfeeding infant can actually have between 12 bm's a day or 1 every five days and still be normal.
Avatar m tn The last year it has gotten worse where I occasionally wake up with back and throat pain but it is quickly resolved by getting up, moving around and taking tums. I have been to many gastro dr.s, have been on nexium and zantac and am mostly constipated (wondering if I have IBS-C?) For some reason, I am petrified of having pancreatic cancer and worry that the back pain could be this.
958770 tn?1247489269 NEC is a disease condition to the intestines that may happen with premature infants. Your infant would be sicker than just constipation. Suggest using Alimentum infant formula with constipation and it will also give her the nutrients she needs.
Avatar f tn I had it so bad I would wake up in the middle of the night and be in pain and thrown up a couple times.
Avatar n tn The GI doc has me switching off omeprazole (prilosec) in the morning and ranitidine (zantac) before bed. Switching the two helps and of course watching what I eat and drink, Right now I am uncomfortable from my dinner - the giant milk shake was a bit too much milk and sugar for me. I have no saage advice for this one.... but can definitely commiserate.
Avatar f tn Then I took more Zantac, woke up crampy and nauseous, ate some cereal, now I am lightheaded and my stomach hurts and I need to eat something else but I'm afraid to. Could the Zantac be messing with my digestion and making me feel worse?
Avatar f tn I talked to 2 drs and the wic office about this and its ok. It will work fast. So its not in there long... so its not harmful. Don't keep waiting because it will be SO painful if it goes on any longer. My son has had this problem since birth. So needless to say I know what I'm talking about. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn See your doctor.
Avatar m tn Hi. I posted in this community a month or so ago, describing symptoms I was having at the time. Since then I've had a change in my symptoms. Previously I was experiencing daily diarrhea and lower abdominal pain. I visited an allergist and found out that I have food allergies. I stopped eating those foods and I started having solid BMs again. The lower abdominal pain lessened to a great degree. That's been about 2 1/2 weeks.
7601195 tn?1406663344 Zantac is safe and in my opinion the best thing for heartburn. But I get off brand because it's soooo much cheaper but the same thing. And any otc stool softener is fine.
Avatar m tn Im on Zegerid in the am and zantac in the pm. I started a new plan about the ibc-c and im going every other day. It just feels like the tube where it hits my stomach is cold/chilled. It usually lasts about a few minutes then goes down, but i can feel it chill my stomach as it goes down, but it still kinda feels like i could burp it up. I dont get the burning often, but i get the bloating and pain (sometimes) Lump in throat (sometimes) food is fine, as long as its not tomato based sauce.
Avatar m tn I stopped the Zantac after about 12 days and on that day my neck started to ache like crazy. The day after I was in pain and had a bad sore throat, still dry coughing. Is this a side effect of the Zantac? Or is this a sign my throat is healing from never having taken this kind of medicine before?
6692462 tn?1409257870 Try some colace to help with the constipation and zantac 150mg for the gas and heartburn amd those are both safe during pregnancy
Avatar f tn Let me know if you find anything out. I have identical problems. Weight gain, heart burn, constipation and I'm in the Dr office now bps is 126/98 and my pulse was 99. I will also share with you anything I find out.
1330108 tn?1333677304 Hey I just saw in your intro post that your little girl has GERD. My baby girl also has it. Zantac didn't work for her so now she is on Prevacid. We have her in our room yet to sleep because I am afraid to put her in her room in case she spits up and has one of her "choking" episodes. I am not sure what you are using for her to sleep in but we just got a fishcer price rock and play which is amazing. It was recommended by her MD and we love it. She sleeps so good in it.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure about the gas, but for indigestion I take zantac. Its safe to take, and the only thing that helps me. Even water gives me heartburn its ridiculous. And for the constipation, you can try natural remedies like lots of water, 100% juice, preferably prune juice, and lots of fiber. As far a medicine, miralax, and colace are ok to take for the constipation.
Avatar n tn When he was an infant, lots of reflux, constipation. Then as a toddler he has struggled with constipation and stomach aches. He has been on Miralax for years. The past few months the stomach aches are daily. He is not constipated now, having a bm everyday. The constistancy of the stools seem to vary greatly throughout the day, though. Sometimes soft and then the next one may be hard.
Avatar m tn I seem to be having an extremely weird problem. On Saturday July 17, I had gone to the beach. The day before I had eaten some Chinese food and become bloated the day I had gone to the beach. While I was at the beach I had that strange bloating feeling following me so I ate less. After that I went swimming. Half an hour later I was feeling horrible, I kept needing to go to the washroom and I felt nauseous. I got home without throwing up.
250701 tn?1320974765 Call your doctor. He knows your body and what would be best for you to take He'll probably just call in a prescription and you'll get it that day. I know I have the same problem since taking the meds it hurts.
290867 tn?1333569278 Babies with MSPI can have a difficult time with rice (especially at such a young age). You might find it causes constipation and more discomfort in the long run. If his REFLUX is being properly treated, it's not a big deal for him to spit up. Yes, it's a mess and not fun to deal with...but like I said, the rice cereal probably won't be easy for him to digest and then you'll be back with a fussy baby again! Also remember that zantac is VERY weight sensitive.
Avatar n tn Her gastro doctor had her tested for this due to frequent vomiting (she still grew at an impressive rate and was in good spirits most days). Is vomiting a common sympton of c diff in infants? She is on antibiotics right now and I am very hopeful that this will cure her of her frequent vomiting. Also, she has never had diarhea, as a matter of fact, she has been constipated since she was 3 months old and has been given a dose of Myrilax daily. Can c diff also be the cause of constipation?
3055148 tn?1368211800 Zantac stopped most of it i then stopped taking 20 tums a day anfld only needed them maybe once every few days (not at all if i remembered to take my zantac first thing in the morning and at night!
7349088 tn?1390657733 Has anyone taken zantac during pregnancy for heartburn? I'm 22+5 and have heartburn almost every other day. Sometimes it's so bad that I just want to sleep so i don't feel it.
