Common Questions and Answers about What is depo provera used for

Avatar n tn If you only used it once, it shouldn't affect anything at all. By the way, after I stopped using depo, I ended up getting pregnant. I used it for over 5 years. Sadly my pregnancy ended up in a m/c (unrelated to depo, it's been about four years.. hubby was using the pull out method until we were ready to try) and now I'm ttc again.
Avatar n tn i took the depo shot for almost a year now they say for mr to have kids i have to take hormone pills to get pregnant
Avatar f tn not me.. but FYI I HATED depo. I was on that **** for about 3 yrs. it was horrible, I gained 50lbs and had all sorts of side effects.(I managed to lose 20 or so) BUT i was one of those women who got their period the next month after missing/stopping their shot. I wound up getting on Nuvaring for 3 mo. started gaining weight w/that, and got off all bc to use Natural Family Planning instead. Well... It worked for about 2 mo. until DH decided to mess around w/out protection 3 days before O.
Avatar n tn hi, i came off depo just over 5 months ago after 1 year on it. i would love to start a family but as yet no period has appeared! i know it can take up to a year to return and that you can ovulate without having a period, but i would really love to know - can anyone help or offer advice??
Avatar n tn I used Depo Provera for about 2 years and during that time I never really had a "period". I had occasions, usually after intercourse, where I had breakthrough bleeding that was kind of brownish looking. I would naturally think that was going to be the period and prepare with pads and such, then it went away as fast as it came. My gyn told me this was normal with Depo. Now this was in 1995-1997, so I don't know if it's changed since then.
Avatar f tn Is it possible since birthcontrol never regulated my period that Depo is not working also. Is it a possibility that I could still become pregnant on Depo if I am bleeding? I recently became sexually active for my first time 4 moths ago, so I never used birth control for the purpose of preventing pregnancy. Now I'm concerned that it is not going to work to prevent pregnancy if it has never worked to control my irregular periods. HELP!
Avatar n tn As widley as depo is used there is so much neg feed on it I had a no period while I was on it then once I got off I had a three month long period. You defiantly need to up your calcium if you haven't started already. Also there are multi vit that can really help balence out your hormones but just ask your doc. if there is some more natural way that can coincide with any meds they would want to give you.
Avatar n tn But I mean what is done is done now you just need to become regular and a doctor for sure can help you with all of these questions as well.
Avatar m tn So i am on Depo Provera now for 3 weeks. Today i got the strangest feeling to buy a pregnancy test because i brests are hurtin and tender so i took a chance and it is POSITIVE. Accoding to my calculations i am 5 weeks pregnant today. What do i do now? Can being on the depo shot cause a Eptopic Pregnancy because i got the shot before it was detected by my doctor? i have had 2 M/C and i really don't need another M/C. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I know I will have light bleeding on the Depo Provera, but is it normal to be bleeding for 37 days? I have not felt like myself lately and I am having trouble doing my everyday activities.
Avatar n tn I was on Depo Provera for about 8 years when my husband and I decided to try for another baby. I received my last injection in September 2006. I was pregnant by March 07 but miscarried at 5 weeks. We waited until December to try again and just miscarried that one at 9 weeks. After having 2 healthy children with no pregnancy complications, I am led to believe that this is an effect of the Depo injections.
Avatar n tn Same boat here! DD is 6, 1st grade this year and is very loud. I don't know what to do either. Kindergarten ws hard at first, but then she got o.k., or either the teacher just got used to it! I know I'm not helping you but if you find anything that works, please let me know!!!
Avatar n tn It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective. So much so, that it actually is a bad choice of contraceptive if you actually want to get pregnant within 2 years of the shot, because it takes that long for your body to return to normal. If you are still unsure, ask her doctor.
Avatar f tn He told me that he was going to try the Depo Provera shot, because that would be a more effective pain reducer and would help the endo from not coming back. I took the shot in the middle of December 2013, and started bleeding the beginning of January. I was not due to take the next shot until March, but I was still bleeding in February consistently. I called the doctor again and said that I was still bleeding, and they told me that I could either come and take the 2nd shot early or wait it out.
Avatar n tn But I guess if I were taking them just for side affects, but what would I do for actual BC? Thanks for your help!
Avatar n tn I was searching google when I found this website. I am referring to "KNeal" who posted on 7/21/07 "passing (3*2) sheets of tissue during menstruation, not clots". Also two other women posted with similar stories, "ericahts" on 7/31 and "colady123" on 9/18 First of all, in the hopes I will get some kind of expert opinion, or other feedback here, let me explain what happened. I am 22 today. In 2003, I was 17 going on 18.
Avatar f tn Ive been on the depo shot for a little over 4 years now and want to swith to the implanon implant in your arm. i havent really had any side effects from the shot since the first few months i got it except ongoing migraines all the time. i like the shot im just not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon so i figure i should change so i dont have to worry about getting the shot every few months plus im losing health insurance in a few mmonths and dont wanna have to pay for it all the time.
Avatar n tn I don't know why this would make you lose weight, but it will have no interaction at all with birth control whether pills or Depo Provera. Depo Provera has been implicated with weight gain. Some say it is the increased appetite due to the potent progestin, but probably more than that. Some women won't gain an ounce, but others will put it on very quickly. The number of meds that actually have the potential to make birth control less effective is very short.
Avatar f tn This was the second time that this happened to me on Depo Provera so I immediately went off. I let my system clean out for a month and then went onto Lo Ovoral pills and into the 8th day of the second pack I started to get these horrible migraines. I have never been sickly or have had headhaches in my life. The migraines lated from Dec 6 to Dec 23rd. Then they went away and I started getting heart palpatations and chest pains.
Avatar n tn Depo Provera is costing me my relationship with my husband. After 7 years married (today) he confessed to me to be emotionally drained... wow... that's because we never have sex. And when we do it feels to me like a job. I don't enjoy it, I want it to be over fast. I definitely NOT GETTING my next shot. I guess I'll go back to the pill =/ Being a woman is a wonderful thing, but chemical birth control *****. Good luck to the ones that keep trying.
Avatar n tn The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
Avatar n tn I am in a group where all the women are trying to conceive after the depo provera. Many have been trying to conceive for years, and no luck. And it seems like those who do conceive have miscarriages soon after. Its like 80% of the women who get pg have a miscarriage. Is this linked to the depo? Age? Im 22 and am trying to conceive #2. (my son is 6 now) I am so scared that it might happen to me.
Avatar n tn I was on the Depo-Provera injection for about 2 year and a half and I have just gotten off the injection a couple of months ago. I got my first period and I have not gotten my second and it has been about 3 months. I have gone to my doctor had a blood test and a vaginal ultrasound to make sure I was not preg and he put me on Provera for 10days. I have been on the medication for 5 days and I have not even spotted or felt no cramps.
Avatar n tn Hopefully my body adjusts alright and this helps with keeping the endo at bay. Has anyone used the Depo for endometriosis? What kind of experiences did you have? I'm kinda curious, but also thinking that maybe I jumped into the waters before seeing if there were sharks. :) (To reiterate, I was given three choices: oral BC, Depo, or Lupron. Opted against the Lupron for the vast scary side effects. Looked into the Depo, didn't really see anything scary.
Avatar n tn I am 19 years old, and just recently become sexually active with my boyfriend, we used protects and have both been tested, so all is good there. Okay... a week ago I got my depo Provera shot... and since then I have been hungry all of the time and have had cravings for anything sweet, saly, greasy, you name it, I've craved it... I also have been feelings nausiated at times... I am having terrible aches in my legs and arms...
Avatar f tn Depo is NOTORIOUS for this. You can seriously go from thin to fat taking this medication, although not all patients experience this and the weight gain amount can vary from patient to patient. I would seriously talk to your prescribing physician about other options if you are experiencing weight gain in regards to this medication. As sekaiend stated, the weight doesn't come off easy either.
Avatar n tn I took Depo for years and came off it 18 months ago. The design of Deop is that it tricks your body into thinking you are pregnant all of the time so it is unsurprising that you would feel pregnant whilst on it. I too suffered from the painful sex and dryness down there. I still suffer from it. I suspect that Depo has caused some permanent scars (so to speak). I pretty much use 1/4 of a tube of lube each time my husband and I have sex. Plus I am very intolerant of condoms now.
1891325 tn?1321126576 What you listed describes what I feel exactly. I used to be an incredibly happy, bubbly person, and these mood swings are killing me! I really like the convenience of not having to worry about taking a pill, it's not that I mind pills at all, but my schedule as a college student varies so much it's hard to find a time to take it consistently. If I had a steady schedule where I could take a pill every day at the same time, I would much rather do that than have an injection.
Avatar f tn At the end of June I had received an injection on one butt cheek for depo provera... In the second week of august I noticed a dent clearly visible to the naked eyes... I feel very insecure about this! Will this type of dent heal with time or should I look into some type of filler? I don't know what to do...
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
