Avatar f tn (1) a nasty giardia infection ( giardia is a microscopic parasite) that can cause recurrent gastric upset, diarrhea and weight loss, or (2) they can get a bacterial infection called coccidia. Like always, see a vet if your dog has diarrhea for more than a two days, or is seeming weak or unexpectedly loosing weight. There is no pet store product to treat giardia. Rx only. Dogs cannot get worms directly from rabbit poop.
1623561 tn?1299944237 At the beginning stage the best thing to feed are proteins that are at the top of the bio-availability chart, such as fish and eggs. These will put the least amount of strain on the kidneys. Mix these with sticky rice to bring the Phos content down further, while keeping the calorie count up. The rice adds some B Vits and other nutrients too. Take a look at nutritiondata.com. You will see that whole brown rice has something like (I am going off memory here...) 165 mg of Phos per cup.
1832268 tn?1326819610 Daily IV fluids given by me at home and pills have provided him with more than one extra year. His levels were off the charts when first diagnosed, weight lose was what made us notice something wasn't right. After 4 months of meds and IV his levels were reduced and brought way down. They are back up again now and it's just a matter of time. But with a good vet, money, and a lot of your own time, you can definately give your pet a fighting chance and more time with you.
203342 tn?1328740807 I have an 11year pomeranian/terrier/poodle mix. Not really sure as I rescued her from some homeless people 11 years ago at Lake Shasta, CA while on vacation. Of course her name is "Shasta". She has been my baby ever since. I found out that she had cushings about a year and a half ago. The doctor explained and I looked up the disease to find out more. I have opted to not go the medication route.
478429 tn?1265247987 She didn't grow longer at all so she is now in the 50% for height and 3% for weight. She's a tiny peanut! I love her to pieces. DH is having his surgery on Thursday so I'll be busy! SNORE..........
Avatar f tn When Angie received Convenia she had what seemed to be a cold which wasn't going away, she didn't seem gravely ill at that point. She had had some weight loss in July, but her blood work was normal. We did a thyroid panel in September which was fine. Then she had some hair loss for which I never found out the cause yet. After Convenia, she developed a high fever, she became extremely doped, she was hiding in the closet and she stopped eating completely.
Avatar f tn Benadryl is also something of an anti-emetic, and can be given at 1 mg per pound of the dog's weight, but I doubt it will be very effective in the face of this kind of vomiting. Worth a try though. Another thing that helps is calcium - lots of it. I was giving Chica 2 Tums a day during her last couple of months. The calcium binds to phosphorus which is deadly to those in renal failure.
Avatar n tn I don't have any knowledge of what could have happened to your dog, but would like to say I'm sorry to hear of her death. My dog is also twelve, and at the vet last week I read on a chart that she is beyond being a senior, she is in the geriatric stage, which yours would have been too. Its hard to believe their that old, you can at the very least be comforted that she didn't have a disease that you would have to watch her suffer with, or have to euthanize her.
Avatar f tn When I got pregnant my OBGYN did not even mention what it was even when she did my physical. Now after 2 pregnancies, these axillary breast tissue just got bigger (I gained weight too). Finally during a routine pap exam, the nurse practioner send me to a plastic surgeon, who said that he will take them out, but he sort of frightened me about the scarring. At least i can wear regular clothes with out the ugly bump. I have HMO insurance and it would cover the surgery.
