Vioxx withdrawal from market

Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx withdrawal from market

vioxx

Avatar n tn Vioxx was withdrawn from the market in 2004 due to heart/stroke issues. I doubt you can even get it, but if for some reason it id given to you, ask for something different. I know a couple of other people who have gout with no rise in uric acid. So yes, it probably is best to just go ahead and get treated if your doctor agrees. I assume you've probably already been to the doctor by now. Hope it's cleared up. That pain can be brutal!
Avatar m tn COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.
Avatar m tn I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........

Avatar f tn There was no money exchanged or special consideration given to get Vioxx on the market. However, Vioxx is a good example of a study not digging deep enough into long term effects of a new drug. Vioxx was introduced in 1999 and was originally thought of as a treatment for polyps in the intestinal track.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist put me on Effexor about a year ago. He had me taking 150 mg twice a day. At first, I thought that it was a great drug and that I finally found something to help my depression. However, about a couple weeks after I was on it, I started having horrible side effects.

Avatar f tn They also have the potential to cause drug-induced liver disease. In fact, many NSAIDs have been withdrawn from the market due to their hepatotoxicity. All NSAIDs have the potential to cause liver injury. However, some NSAIDs are more hepatotoxic than others. NSAIDs presently on the market that have been frequently associated with liver injury are aspirin (ASA), diclofenac (Voltaren), and sulindac (Clinoril).
429432 tn?1343594190 Years ago, she gave me Vioxx, I read the warning leaflet and threw the pills in the trash. I was right, they were pulled off the market later on. I'm not sure about this either...
Avatar n tn I have done reading on the side effects, withdrawals from this drug and it is scary. I have a whole *hitload of this stuff and have not touched it. Why are we becoming the guinea pigs for many of these drugs that have been on the market for a short time? I just would like some feedback.

It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs. If NSAIDs are medically required for the treatment of another medical disorder, a reduced dose should be used for a limited period of time and only by people with stable liver disease.
Avatar n tn I wish I new one as I have said many times b/4 its not so much the withdrawal that makes methadone so hard to get off of but the post withdrawal....this is not an ez drug to break free from you can use short acting opiates to get past the initial withdrawal but its the next few months that they will not help with.....
Avatar f tn VRUS) has received fast track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for PSI-7977 for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Avatar f tn If you want to continue your withdrawal, you can do it with thata dose easily...just take one every other day for the next week; then one every third day for the third week, then stop.
Avatar n tn withdrawing from celexa. tapered 1st. now off 7 days. feeling edgy, aggitated, easily annoided. tight jaw, chest.
Avatar n tn You have to be careful with too much vitamins that can add to the diarrhea, that is usually a side effect of withdrawal. Try staying away from any products with caffeine and sugars and drink chamomile teas through out..It will help you replacing fluids and take a bit of the edge from anxiety. A bit of walking helps and so as warm baths. Wish you good luck!
Avatar n tn Can I switch right over using equivolent dosage without having any withdrawal symptoms from the valium?
233616 tn?1312787196 well kick me to the curb and call me stupid...I just spent the last month sleeping 2 hrs a night due to tremors and brachacardia/tachacardias all night long... my doc told me it wasn't my withdrawal from helper drugs...3 specialists and umpteen tests later...yes, I'm more convinced than ever...especially since 3 or the drugs I was on for over 2 years and they ALL list tremors as part of their withdrawal profile, as well as the other issues with heart, joints that I am having.

Avatar f tn I was currently prescribed darvocet for pain but it was taken off the market. Since I haven't had anything. My doc gave me tylenol 3 but it made me sick. He then prescribed tramadol but I didn't fill it after I've read about the terrible withdrawal symptoms. Is there anything else that isn't real strong or addicting that is similar to darvocet?
Avatar m tn The normal range for BUN (at my hospital) is 8.0 - 24.0. Sounds like yours borderline high on the normal range. The foam in your urine, does it manifest with frequency? it can be an indication of high level of protein in your urine. I would suggest for you to drink more water but with your heart condition that might not be the best route. You should consult with your doctor again about your kidney just to be safe. Prolong proteinuria can be harmful for your kidney.
Avatar m tn In my and others experience, the best withdrawal method is a process of cutting back your dosage over time. Going into a rehab unit is pure hell. And anyway you are not an addict. Take it slow friend. In my humble opinion the vicodin you may want to stay on the longest. Percs make me feel depressed. Vicodin does not do that. I am a pain patient. This may sound counter intuitive but oxycontin acts longer with getting a less addictive buzz or high like one does on vikes(hydrocodone).
Avatar n tn t anything about taking Paxil off the market. If you wean off carefully over a three week period, you should not have any withdrawal symptoms. Headaches can happen any time of the day, but if just at night, it might be the time that anxious thoughts occur, and the stress of the day catches up with you.
Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar n tn I used to take Endep occasionally for depression perhaps for a few months at a time. I could always go off it without withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal from Lexapro is horrific so I don't know whether there are other anti anxiety/depressants without such severe withdrawal. There is no point talking to my doctor about withdrawal as according to them they aren't addictive....
Avatar f tn very easy to OD on....and tough to withdrawal from. I speak from experience on all three I mentioned so PLEASE be careful with it.
