Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx and withdrawal

vioxx

Avatar n tn I have had three surgeries on my left eye (SLT, filtration, and then lazer cutting of filtration sutures to keep pressures low.), by a well known glaucoma specialist. After each surgery, my vitreous became 'looser' and more floaters erupted. Before each surgery, I asked the surgeon if the procedures would cause vitreous excitation, and each time he said no. Well, not so.
Avatar n tn Hi. I am a 59 yr old male. Symptons are always have been cold, tired, joint and muscle pain worse in fingers, I took Vioxx before it was removed , high blood pressure , tinnitus, completely deaf over 2,500 cycles in both ears. Hearing aids made no difference. Dentist last month couldn't freeze my gums with 2 needles of Carbocaine. 7mm nodule on thyroid. Blood tests TSH 2.15 ( range .465 to 4.68 ) FT4 11.17 ( range 10 to 28.2 ) Total T3 2.02 ( range .92 to 2.
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?
Avatar n tn But, call the drug company that makes this drug and ask them if there have been sufficient studies done on patients taking this and another drug like Vioxx, like Cymbalta, Celebrex, Boniva. What about a diabetic? Can they take this w/ the new drug while being on insulin? There are no studies on how these drugs interact w/ each other and the efficacy. We are the studied ones. And that is scary to me.
Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar f tn As independent studies started to show a correlation between Vioxx and an increase risk of heart attack and stroke, the NIH funded the VIGOR study I believe in 2001 at the request of the Arthritis Advisory Committee to determine if there was indeed a link. What they discovered was that all NSAIDS increased the risk for heart attack and stroke with Vioxx being the worst.
Avatar n tn i have hbv and am on viread i also have sciatic nerve pain, what is the best pain reliver for me to take for this?

Avatar m tn The latent period before an effect on deaths was about 5 years for oesophageal, pancreatic, brain, and lung cancer, but was more delayed for stomach, colorectal, and prostate cancer. For lung and oesophageal cancer, benefit was confined to adenocarcinomas, and the overall effect on 20-year risk of cancer death was greatest for adenocarcinomas (HR 0·66, 0·56—0·77, p<0·0001).
Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar f tn neurontin and lyrica for nerve pain, aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, celebrex, vioxx, midol, dozens of different types of opiates both synthetic and derived from the poppy, marijuana, kava, willow bark, turmeric, ginger, benzos, nitrous oxide gas, ether, and that's just again not even thinking hard about it.
Avatar f tn In that same period of time, 490,000 people have died from prescription drugs, not counting the Vioxx scandal. That means that prescription drugs in this country are at least 16,400 percent deadlier than terrorism. Again, those are the conservative numbers. A more realistic number, which would include deaths from over-the-counter drugs, makes drug consumption 32,000 percent deadlier than terrorism. But the scope of "Death by Medicine" is even wider.
Avatar f tn Later, when I started seeing a psychiatrist (not a fam practice Dr who shouldnt be prescribing these meds IMO), I told her about my experience and my concern about the dependency, side effects, and withdrawal issues with these type medications. She said one of the ways some people find which helps is to slowing integrate Prozac in as replacement for (Cymbalta). Cymbalta has a very fast half life and as a result when you stop taking it, your body does not have time to slowly adjust.
429432 tn?1343594190 Years ago, she gave me Vioxx, I read the warning leaflet and threw the pills in the trash. I was right, they were pulled off the market later on. I'm not sure about this either...
Avatar m tn The products in question are Temodar (temozolomide) for brain cancer and hepatitis C and cancer drugs PegIntron (pegylated interferon alfa-2b) and Intron A (interferon alfa-2b), according to Merck's just-published quarterly report. All three of the drugs were acquired when Merck bought Schering-Plough in 2009.
Avatar m tn Since those days I get flare-ups of same old gb like pain only not as severe, and tolerable, but annoying as heck. They show up a few months apart and last at least 10 days. I am currently dealing with a flare up that's lasted 14 days. I am scheduling an apt with doc. Old doc said that scar tissue and bowel motility can cause irritation. Do any of your patients experience this? Bentyl was prescribed and I am not sure if it really helps.
Avatar f tn I do not understand why the Doctors answering service nurses are soooo uneducated about the treatment and were worthless in advising me what I can take to make the headaches better. You would think that since this Doctor has over 80 patients currently on treatment that they would have 1 nurse fielding the calls that knows what is going on...... SO, tell me - what did your Doctors tell you was O.K. to do for the headaches. I am on the Incivek program and just on the 2nd day...yikes!
Avatar n tn I switched from effexor to wellbutrin. I had to be on both medications at the same time for a long time because of the effexor withdrawal... it was so hard to come off the effexor, I was at the lowest dose for a very long time, 25mg, because I couldn't get off of it the withdrawal symptoms were too bad for me.
Avatar n tn Hot baths and bananas for the restless legs and anxiety. For me they come and go and different times of the day are worst than others. Hopefully someone with sub experience will check in and help you out soon. But just know that you're probably going to feel terrible for a while but the end goal is so worth it. Life on opiates is no life at all. Sending support....
Avatar f tn I took vicodein during my entire pregnancy for a fractured spine and pelvis and my baby had no withdrawal. Never stop opiates cold turkey in pregnancy and never miss a dose as withdrawal in utero CAN cause miscarriage or fetal death.
Avatar m tn Hey, this is not a kids section. We deal with all adhd problems. And many are adult related. Man, I feel for you. There is nothing worse then having a problem and not getting a personal response from the medical field. I am not a doctor, but I have been on this site for many years and have gained a fair amount of experience. One of the things I have learned is that stimulant medications have no withdrawal problems (unless you are addicted to them and have been taking huge amounts).
Avatar f tn There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. Cheers!
Avatar m tn i took lexapro without any problems with withdrawal when my military pharmacy took it off their formulary. i tried wellbutrin and got a rare reaction to it--a rash from hell. i went on effexor xr 75mg. then. took it for about 4 yrs. it stopped working so i have tapered off of it. talk about horrible withdrawal sxs. awful!! i have successfully selftreated those. i have read that lexapro has withdrawal sxs. very similar to effexor. would not take lexapro and effexor together.
Avatar f tn Percocets can become addictive when taken long term, but I do not know whether you would have had bad withdrawal symptoms with taking 1 10mg a day. I suppose everyone is different and even smaller doses can affect different people differently. You should make an urgent appointment to see your doctor and discus this with him.
Avatar m tn How can I successfully wean myself off without experiencing withdrawal symptoms and jeopardizing my pregnancy? I have my first OB appointment in 2 weeks, but I don't want to wait that long to get off the Ultram if it is causing harm.
Avatar f tn I read that cymbalta withdrawal can result in many things including irregular menstrual cycle and spotting. Does the case of the late period sound more like withdrawal or pregnancy? The signs don't seem to point to pregnancy, but I'm paranoid. Thank you.
