Does Effexor xr promote weight gain or loss? Also, it is sooooooooo expensive, is there an alternative?

I was recently withdrawn from Venlafaxine 300mgs. bd and had a rough time with sweats and feeling freezing along with nervous system side effects. My GP prescribed me Duloxitine 20mgs. a couple of weeks ago but they didn't appear to be making any difference so I stopped them a week ago. My sister has depression and takes Amitriptylline with good effect. Do you think I ought to request the same from my GP?

Is anyone else on these? My psych doc has taken me off epilim and venlafaxine as I have packed on so much weight and was cycling heaps!

Because of depression I was already underweight, so my psychiatrist decided to switch me to Sertraline instead, to keep me from losing more weight. The first week I still had some nasty adverse effects like insomnia, sweaty hands and feet, lack of appetite and insomnia. I also stopped taking Clonazepam during the day, but instead I stared taking 0,5 mg and 5 mg of Zolpidem at night, which has helped my sleeping patterns.

I totally have this issue. I was on Sertraline (aka Zoloft) for about 4yrs and it realized it wasn't working as well, so my Dr switched me to Effexor, but prescribed me Venlafaxine. Since then, I had a weight gain of about 30lbs!!! I've been told by my family that I need to stop eating... I haven't changed my diet, but I've tried exercising, weightloss programs, and nothing works! It totally *****! I am wondering if I should make the switch to brand name.

Effexor is a Cat C drug, crosses the placenta near the end of pregnancy..there is an increase chance of low birth weight and unknown demise (very low, but there). It will show up in your breast milk. Being a Cat C, it is considered safe to a point (which apparently is third trimester). NEONATAL SIDE EFFECTS: Restlessness, hypertonia, jitteriness, irritability and poor feeding occurred in a neonate after maternal use of venlafaxine for depression during pregnancy.

hii i am 25years male. I have been using venlafaxine almost 1year, suddenly my blood pressure raised to 150/90. I consult doctor and he stop the medicine. But my blood pressure is still high after withdrawl of venlafaxine? I stopped the medicine and 4months over but my blood pressure is still high? How long my blood pressure is going to high and when it comes to normal stage?

my doctor has been pressuring me to gain weight. now since i had to go back on the venlafaxine i am feeling nauseaous and my head is hurting. It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.

Been on Effexor XR for maybe 4yrs and recently rec. venlafaxine instead via mailorder. I assumed Effexor XR must have just gone generic. I have been on venlafaxine for about 3 weeks and just do not feel "right". Very tired- especially around 2-3 pm and started gaining weight again. Originally gained 30lbs until added Wellbutrin 300mg to the Effexor. Also my mind is not as sharp, having more headaches, bloated stomach and crabby.

I had recently had my son and had started to take Venlafaxine again after a break during pregnancy. So I'm currently taking 75mg venlafaxine and 15mg mirtazapine the mirtazapine is great doing its job for the night time anxiety it's more than enough to calm me and help me sleep the night but my concern is the venlafaxine it's causing me stomach upset and feelings of low mood iv been taking this combo since beginning of December whilst some what it has levelled me out to the state I was currently in I don't feel as tho the venlafaxine is helping anymore as Iv been on it before a

for the first time since i come off Effexor i feel great... i feel no withdrawal symptoms. this is my 10th day without venlafaxine. i'm full of energy. and i feel great cause i'm beginning to win this battle. my dizziness is gone. that first days anxiety has normalized, I really believe now that it's possible to survive effexor withdrawal. usually depression has an environmental cause. try do find yourse and fight it. the human mind is very powerfull.

I have been taking 37 twice a day venlafaxine for a year now and initially felt great however 4 months ago I have been slowly feeling the same as I did before I started taking venlafaxine. I have frequent dizzy spells and get upset every day do I need to increase my dose?
