I get cold sores and was recently prescribed valtrex for outbreaks. Trouble is, it isn't always obvious that I'm going to have an outbreak. I'd rather be safe than sorry - but don't want to take valtrex too often if it isn't safe.
Would it be a problem if I took the one day 2,000 mg maybe twice per month when I thought an outbreak might be coming on?

I am trying to figure out how to minimize outbreaks (I seem to get one after every infusion) I am currently on generic valtrex which I had only been taking for outbreaks. I looked up the standard dosing for prevention of outbreaks but that doesnt seem to keep them at bay either. I cant stop getting th remicade so are there any suggestions as to what I can do?
Exactly - the med is the same, the strength is the same - the pack is just an easier way for your doctor to prescribe it rather than actually figuring out how many pills to prescribe - and also probably easier on the pharmacy for them not having to write out all the instructions on dosing.
What if i have an outbreak while im on it? Do i start taking Valtrex, 3 times a day and then continue my 1 a day after 7 days of the 3 a day? Im just a wreck about all this, it makes you so paranoid!

Hey old-timers.... I was perusing the "official" dosing instructions for Pegasys on the pharma company site. After you poke yourself, you're supposed to pull back slightly on the plunger. They say if blood appears in the syringe, STOP and DISCARD the whole thing.

1. I know this indicates you've hit a vein, but whats the big deal - why do you have to stop? It's still going in the old body.

Tylenol is unveiling new maximum dosage instructions for paracetamol or acetaminophen in the US. The new instructions state a maximum total daily of 3,000 mg versus the old maximum of 4,000 mg. You don't need to go to anyone for medical help, but try to read the instructions more carefully. Over a longer term such a misunderstanding could cause problems. Usually the 50,000 unit dose is "once a week" for non-compliant patients who don't remember to take their pills.
I was tested for the first time in 2009, since then I have been on acyclovir. I went to my doctor because I was staying raw and was burning in my vaginal area. I had a herpeselect test. It came back >5 for herpes 1, and 1.4 for herpes 2. I was first put on Valtrex, but then changed to acyclovir, because Valtrex made me so sick. Nothing has helped with the rawness and burning, and now my neurologist states I have central nervous system damage. I am getting sicker everyday! Please help me!

If I have a genetal herpes and my partner doesn't, i do want to keep it that way. By taking valtrex it doesn't 100% prevent the transmission, so they say we have to use condoms, which we don't prefer. Yes. But like all OTC drugs follow the dosing instructions on the bottle and don't use it too many days in a row. With my last pregnancy I got so big and uncomfortable at the end I would never had gotten any sleep if it wasn't for a little benedryl once in a while lol.
