valtrex

Avatar n tn are u sure it is zoster? It is unusual to get zoster every month, especially if u r taking valtrex, Are u immunosuppressed eg taking steroids, chemotherapy or are u very run down?
Avatar m tn we treat herpes simplex and herpes zoster with the same medications. it's just a matter of dose.
Avatar n tn My question is, I had a bout of herpes zoster back in April of 2007. Was put on Valtrex and was recovered due to being diagnosed within the 72 hour period. Would I be a good candidate for the new herpes zoster vaccine? My primary care doctor suggested that I not get the vaccine but I am a little leary about a recurring bout. I thank you in advance for your answer.
Avatar m tn History of pain before onset, the unilaterality, and more important the clinical diagnosis would all favour Herpes Zoster. But then when the other doctor saw you secondary folliculitis could have set in. Since you have been covered by valtrex, you need not worry.Do complete your course of medication.
Avatar n tn I went to an Urgent Care Clinic and he diagnosed it as Herpes Zoster and prescribed Valtrex 1g 3 times a day. Over the next few days the rash spread down to my mid thigh and on to the top of my penis shaft. The rash has remained only on the left side of my body. Since the rash spread onto my penis I have become very worried about it being actual Genital Herpes.
Avatar n tn I am a 74 yr old female and have had sacral herpes of buttocks for over 30 yrs. If not severe i do the topical Acyclovir, if severe i get on the Valtrex immediately. The last 4 yrs it has recurred every month or so. It is now eating into my sacral nerves and i have neuralgia. Right now i have lesions and the pain shoots across both sides of the buttocks. It is creating sciatica down my legs.
Avatar f tn I find myself to have very mild symptoms so much so that I identify with zoster sine herpete instead. I also have no history of cold sores and have symptoms that of herpes zoster-induced peripheral neuritis, which includes frequent urination, constipation, painful cramps due to constipation, and occasionally a burning sensation when I go pee.

Avatar m tn ) after two weeks on his scrotum that have not really progressed. He has seen an infectious disease specialist and is under good care and started Valtrex for the genital lesion. He also complains about left sided facial skin "tingling" without any other obvious facial changes. It has not progressed in 5 days of symptoms? Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn The swab came back positive for shingles or chicken pox (vzv) the dr informed me usually that suggest herpes as the labs often confuse the two. He put me on valtrex 500mg x 2 a day. I took them for two days then got a Blood test. Both my partner and I tested negative for HSV1 & HSV2. And we have not been in contact with anyone else for over a year. So if I was HSV Positive I would have to have been carrying it for over a year.
Avatar f tn The outbreak was really bad though - I had a fever, swollen glands, and I had several blisters and ended up going to urgent care to get Valtrex. However, this most recent outbreak, I only had one cold sore, but as soon as it popped up, I ended up getting a Valtrex prescription and took it for a week, and have not had another outbreak since. Since I had this cold sore, I've been getting weird burning/tingling senstations around my mouth...mainly where I had the cold sore.
Avatar f tn I filled the prescriptions but had made an apt with an ophthalmologist later that day....he told me I had zoster. So he prescribed Valtrex and told me to try the tramadol and if it didn't work he would prescribe another drug. Ok. A lot of other stuff happened (I had a severe ADR from taking the meds too close together on an empty stomach and drinking coffee which made me extremely ill all day Friday from 11 am till 1:30 am the next day).
Avatar n tn She was fixed on it being Herpes 1. She ordered a blood test and prescribed Valtrex. The same day my ophthalmologist prescribed Doxycyclin. The same day, my girlfriend went and had a blood test for Herpes. She turned up with a negative. On the 22nd I woke up with more lesions (small clusters that looked like white pimples) on the right side of my forehead along my hairline. Additionally I had splitting pain in my teeth on the right side.
Avatar n tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but after seeing your post I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. What happened in your case? I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do.

Avatar n tn Your doctors don’t seem to like testing, do they. Genital herpes due to HSV can sometimes be mistaken for Herpes zoster (shingles) which is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus. Thus without a culture to help sort things out however, I cannot give you a answer with a high degree of certainty.
Avatar f tn Blood test said wbc indicated viral infectin. After I told him about my sexuality and my recurring shingles he deduced it was herpes zoster. He prescribed a z-pack for my cold, gave me a steroid shot, and valtrex for my "minor" outbreak. it didn't hurt at the time and was the least of problems b/c my cold was horrible and fever had spiked to 102. Over the past two days the cold is better but the pain and the outbreak have gotten 1000000 times worse.
Avatar m tn The rash only lasted a few days whilst taking valtrex then vanished. My bloods were negative for hsv1 and 2 at the 12 week mark. This time, however, I had what I thought was an insect bite on my penis shaft that turned into typical herpes blisters within a few days and I had local swollen lymph glands. The blisters turned to scabs a few days later. I was under the impression that everything should be cleared up within 10 days but these scabs have been hanging around for longer.
Avatar f tn Hi Grace, I posted last week about this awful what I thought was a herpes breakout. I am in severe pain on the left side of my labia and even my clitoris hurts. I have HSV2 and have went on maintenance therapy about a month ago. Normally, one pill of valtrex would knock HSV2 dead in it's tracks. My skin down there is super sensitive to the touch where my underwear and pants rub it's almost unbearable.
Avatar m tn What my doctor told me is that they took the swab before I actually had a blister, so we took it early on in the infection and that they could not confirm it was herpes zoster. Blisters never showed up because I started my valtrex very early on. But she also said that it came back negative for any traces of hsv-1/2 on the culture. She finally stated that what I had was shingles. Care to explain the test results any further? Do you think getting tested again is necessary?
Avatar n tn At the age of 73 I was diagnosed with Herpes Zoster (shingles) on abdomen. Lasted for about a month. Was given a prescription of Valtrex. I was diagnosed within the 73 hour limit, therefore, the blisters did not last too long. Now, I am wondering if it is ok to get the new vaccine for shingles even though I had an outbreak shingles. Would I be a good candidate for the vaccine??? What are my chances of contacting shingles again with or without the new vaccine.
Avatar f tn Concerned I went to urgent care because I was also feeling tingling around my lips and my toungue. The Dr I saw said it was herpes and gave me valtrex. I had never had a cold sore before and I thought they were a cluster of bumps but he said not always.Well by day 2 they were gone and never burst or crusted.Well on day three I got a cluster of Bumps all along the left side of my ribs with a really bad back pain.So this time I was able to see my primary Dr.He said it was shingles.
Avatar m tn Three years ago I was diagnosed with HSV but not type specific. I had a piece of my skin with the infection cut off and sent to be tested and the results were "Compatible with herpes simplex/varicella zoster viral infection." I lived 2 years with no break outs and also taking Valtrex suppressive therapy then got tested again with an IGG test and my results were HSV 1 - 0.07 and HSV 2 - 0.73 (<0.90 being negative). A year later I got tested again and my results were HSV 1 - 0.
