I can't use Flomax or other alpha blockers due to side effects -- disturbed sleep. Separately, due to a Vitamin D deficiency my doc found, he put me on 50,000 units Vitamin D per week for 8 weeks, followed by biweekly doses. And guess what...the Vitamin D almost instantly "cured" the BPH.

Now that your bladder has recompensated, you might actually be able to empty using an alpha blocker such as Uroxatral or Flomax, but I would not recommend doing that in the long term as you are skating on the edge of decompensating again. I would recommend that you have a prostatectomy and then be followed for adequacy of emptying and urinary tract infections.

Six months later I went to a GP and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. He prescribed Cipro and Flomax. This helped for a while, but eventually it stopped. Next I went to a urologist. He took a history and did a dre. He said my prostate felt inflamed and I did indeed have prostatitis. The pain was quite severe at this point and I was having problems urinating. He prescribed doxycycline and flomax. This seemed to work for a little while. I returned three months later and told him of my status.

I have had an ultrasound of the prostate which checked out fine and have been tested for chlamydia and gonorhea, which both came back negative. I am currently taking uroxatral and avodart daily, and am curious as to why I am still having symptoms. Is it possible of being overmedicated? Or is there something that has been missed? If so what other possibilities are there?

I've listed below my CT Scan results. Am on Flomax, an antibiotic and drinking a ton a water. Flomax can reduce the amouht of seman that you produce. It would be unusual though to have this production reduced down to zero unless the man was ejaculating very often. In general terms Flomax is a useful medication with very few side-effects..

, where normal for him means slow urination due to long standing BHP, but not as slow, painful, and dribbling as with Flomax. We are just guessing that the way Flomax works by relaxing muscles is causing these effects. (Could the enlarged prostate end up pressing even more on muscles?? Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.

He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells. His doctor said this was normal, a side effect of Flomax. But now lately he has been passing out; I think that is unusual for any medication and I'm worried there may be something else going on.

I’ve been on Ciprofloxacin (antibiotic), followed by Sulfamethoxyzole (antibiotic) plus Naproxen (anti-inflammatory).
