Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH. Now that your bladder has recompensated, you might actually be able to empty using an alpha blocker such as Uroxatral or Flomax, but I would not recommend doing that in the long term as you are skating on the edge of decompensating again. I would recommend that you have a prostatectomy and then be followed for adequacy of emptying and urinary tract infections.

If that is the only feature you're concerned about Uroxatral is less likely to affect ejaculation.

Six months later I went to a GP and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. He prescribed Cipro and Flomax. This helped for a while, but eventually it stopped. Next I went to a urologist. He took a history and did a dre. He said my prostate felt inflamed and I did indeed have prostatitis. The pain was quite severe at this point and I was having problems urinating. He prescribed doxycycline and flomax. This seemed to work for a little while. I returned three months later and told him of my status.

Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.

I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?

Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. I have had an ultrasound of the prostate which checked out fine and have been tested for chlamydia and gonorhea, which both came back negative. I am currently taking uroxatral and avodart daily, and am curious as to why I am still having symptoms. Is it possible of being overmedicated? Or is there something that has been missed? Unrination is really no problem anymore, but I have a problem with getting erections and now when I ejaculate I have no semon in me. I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?

I stopped, and when the urinary issues seemed to be more problematic again, I returned to the added Flomax, and immediately discovered the same lack of semen and abdominal pain (during the 2 months not taking Flomax, ejaculatory function returned to normal). My question (after all that build up) is are any other men here on Flomax combined with Detrol LA? And, if so, has anyone had the same experiences that I previously explained?

I would concentrate on finding the best cataract surgeon on your plan and make sure he or she has done dozens and dozens of Flomax cases and is very comortable with the management. Dr. David Chang in Los Altos, CA has written extensively on the best techniques to manage such cases.

t seem to be a great drug since it lowers blood pressure too much, I almost fainted on losartan and flomax. Is it true it permenently exhausts you and causes muscle weakness?

t know what triggers this problem and there is no cure. Uroxatral is an excellent option and you have gotten at least a partial response-- good. There is no risk of cancer or other serious impairment or long term damage to your pelvic organs. Symptomatic relief with Uroxatral, and possibly antiinflammatory agents give many men some relief.

I don't think it's a good drug, I have normal BP and it lowered my BP 10 points. does flomax cause exhaustion and permanent tiredness like one forum says?

Thanks in advance for responses: I was recently diagnosed with BPH. I am 48 years old, take care of myself (eating wise) and work out 5 days a week. I am approx. 156lbs and 5'9", non smoker and non drinker. I did the urine flow test into the funnel and it was pretty pathetic. My stream is extremely weak. When I try to push out more, nothing changes..still the weak stream. Typical issues of waking up several times at night, split stream, etc.
