Uroxatral or flomax

Common Questions and Answers about Uroxatral or flomax

uroxatral

Avatar f tn Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH. Sometimes men continue to have problems and may be candidates for surgical intervention to improve symptoms. Frequently, larger prostates can elevate PSA and lead to biopsy. While there is the possibility that your biopsy will yield cancer, it is likely that the increase in PSA is due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years. Will normal ejaculation return if I stop the medication? How long will it take?
Avatar n tn I can't use Flomax or other alpha blockers due to side effects -- disturbed sleep. Uroxatral even caused me to sleepwalk 15 feet from a nap on the sofa one evening, waking when I fell flat on my face in the next room! Separately, due to a Vitamin D deficiency my doc found, he put me on 50,000 units Vitamin D per week for 8 weeks, followed by biweekly doses. And guess what...the Vitamin D almost instantly "cured" the BPH.
Avatar n tn Now that your bladder has recompensated, you might actually be able to empty using an alpha blocker such as Uroxatral or Flomax, but I would not recommend doing that in the long term as you are skating on the edge of decompensating again. I would recommend that you have a prostatectomy and then be followed for adequacy of emptying and urinary tract infections.
Avatar m tn Six months later I went to a GP and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. He prescribed Cipro and Flomax. This helped for a while, but eventually it stopped. Next I went to a urologist. He took a history and did a dre. He said my prostate felt inflamed and I did indeed have prostatitis. The pain was quite severe at this point and I was having problems urinating. He prescribed doxycycline and flomax. This seemed to work for a little while. I returned three months later and told him of my status.
Avatar n tn My question is really about my father; he is 78 years old in general good health. He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells. His doctor said this was normal, a side effect of Flomax. But now lately he has been passing out; I think that is unusual for any medication and I'm worried there may be something else going on.
Avatar m tn I have had an ultrasound of the prostate which checked out fine and have been tested for chlamydia and gonorhea, which both came back negative. I am currently taking uroxatral and avodart daily, and am curious as to why I am still having symptoms. Is it possible of being overmedicated? Or is there something that has been missed? If so what other possibilities are there?
Avatar m tn Sometimes it would be treated with antibiotics other times Flomax. Either way they all resolved easily after a week or so. fast forward to a month ago I had an external hemorrhoid develop and also had urgency and frequency. Doc said it was related to the hemorrhoid and gave me a cream. the issue resolved within a couple days. A month later I went to an urgent care prior to Christmas for the same issue and the doc said prostatitis after doing a DRE. Said it was firm but culture was clean.
Avatar m tn I'm having the same problems on Flomax with the retro. I'm also scared about the loss of strength stated on some forums. it says that Flomax relaxes the muscles of the prostate and bladder neck so it seems like it could improve blood flow to the prostate and help treat a prostate infection like I've had with shooting pains for months now.
1580703 tn?1651904887 the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far? I'm still not cured of the pelvic pain on Flomax+cipro after a few days it is labeled as relaxing the bladder neck and prostate muscles but it has these strength loss problems.
Avatar m tn While taking Flomax or Proscar, does this have an effect on getting HARD.
Avatar n tn He may not have been emptying his bladder even with the flomax and he may have developed further urinary retention. If he has taken any decongestants or antihistamines, they may have worked against the drug and, again, resulted in further emptying difficulties. Call the urologist to discuss it. He probably will need to be seen. S.A.Liroff, M.D. "This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the quick reply Dr Veena. Another question for you: should I take Flomax BEFORE taking Cipro? I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? Does it matter if I take them in the morning or evening, or is the rule just be consistent? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn We always start with a 30 day course of an antibiotic like Cipro or Bactrim to treat a possible acute or chronic bacterial prostatitis. Many patients get relief and are fine with a few patients developing relapses requiring retreatment. Unfortunately, there is a group of patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis-chronic pelvic pain symdrome.
Avatar m tn Can flomax have impact on your sleeping behavior.
Avatar m tn Flomax can reduce the amouht of seman that you produce. It would be unusual though to have this production reduced down to zero unless the man was ejaculating very often. In general terms Flomax is a useful medication with very few side-effects..
Avatar m tn i am having tachycardia, chestpain after using flomax - only second pill how long can take the side effects considering that i stopped taking flowmax 36 hours
Avatar m tn light headness after cataract surgery and Dr was told about Flomax of which I am still on 2 years later
Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar m tn I hear ya... I've been on .4 Flomax since January and its hard to get off of it. It basically tells the bladder neck muscles = "ok we are going to do your job now, take a break"... so to speak.. but when you stop it seems neither the muscles or the drug obviously are doing the job and they tighten back up and I get he urine retention again... Its very frustrating because I was doing exceptionally well before trying to stop.
Avatar f tn Before doing any surgical intervention, many doctors try conservative measures such as alpha adrenergic blocking agent ( Flomax, Uroxatral, terazosin or doxazosin), which acts to reduce the muscle tone of the ureter and facilitate stone passage. For smaller stones near the bladder, this type of medical treatment can increase the spontaneous stone passage rate by about 30%.
