Common Questions and Answers about Truvada for hepatitis b

truvada

Avatar m tn In my situation had it not been for seeking Truvada I would not have discovered my hep b infection due to all the test that are required prior to a prescription being written. Once I was tested & discovered my hep b infection I wanted a second opinion if I should take Truvada. That's why I visited a Hepatologist the same week affiliated with another medical center.

Avatar f tn If while being switched from Hepsera to truvada is there a risk that the Hep B could become active? Also , the Hepatitis B DNA is currently undetectable and the Hep B Surface AG is currently negative (both prior to transplant as well as post transplant, so far ) what are the chances that the Hep B could become active again once the Hbig infusions are stopped? Thank you.

Avatar f tn Yes, I would definitely seek an explanation. Also, what is the opinion of your obstetrician, it should not be just the decision of a liver doctor alone. There is no reason why you should not use Viread.
Avatar f tn If so I would like to know how you are doing with it? and if it is helping your hepatitis b? I have stage 4 kidney disease. My hepitologist just prescribed this med. My labs were not good. He hopes to get the virus under control so I can possibly get a kidney transplant. This would be a kidney from a cadaver donator, someone who had hepatitis b. So I am about to begin my journey. I don't really understand the lab numbers, he said something about 151,000? I am a little confused.
Avatar m tn Brief Intro: have been on Truvada for more than 3 years now, switching from LAM (lam resistance, I took lam for 3 years). HBeAg +, AntiHBe - , 25 years old, genotype B. Ultrasound, fibroscan (around 5.0 kPa) & blood test (AST, ALT, Creatinin,... HBV DNA undetectable) every 6 months comes back normal (been doing this for 5 years now). I'm thinking about taking Tenofovir only because I will move to a place where Emtricitabine is not available. I know it is better to combo.
Avatar m tn I have no idea the answers to your questions. In my personal opinion, the matter may not be that serious. Truvada is an accepted treatment for Hepatitis B. So no harm there. I don't think its short use will cause mutation, based on the thinking that it takes a while for any mutation to take hold and become widespread throughout all the infected cells, and secondly low rate of replication = low rate of mutation.
Avatar m tn I am diagnosed with chronic Hep B and on Truvada for more than 5 years now. The disease is under control and virus is almost undetectable. I am going on business trip to a country where Hep B vaccine is a requirement for the visa. Can I take Hep B vaccine? Will it cause me any harm? Will vaccine interact with Truvada and have any side effect? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thnaks.
Avatar f tn In 2006 i founded that i have hepatitis B+D. Off couse i have a lot of analysis, my TGO and TGP was very high, viremy for hepatitis B and D was present. I started with Roferon (interferon) for 4 months but no result. My big problem was TGO very high (14 * normally). This treatment with Roferon has stoped. Then I started for 1 year with entecavirul 0.5 mg/day, but my analysis still very bad. Then my doctor's said that i have to start a combo treatment with Pegasys and Entecavir.
Avatar f tn Truvada is classified by the FDA as a pregnancy category B drug which means it is safe during pregnancy. During my pregnancy I used Tenofovir which is also cat B and my baby is healthy thanks god. I never stopped taking it. I don't know much about Truvada but as long as it is category B, I believe it is fine. Confirm with your dr. Goood luck.
Avatar n tn Worse, there is no effective vaccine to prevent Hepatitis D among Hepatitis B carriers. Non-carriers can rely on the Hep B vaccine for protection against Hep D, but the Hep B vaccine does not do anything for carriers. So how easy it is to become exposed to the Hepatitis D virus? It appears that Hepatitis D is a top threat to Hepatitis B carriers.
1223953 tn?1267031036 re likely seeing an unexpected rise in bilirubin and AST/ALT you might be going in the direction of hepatitis (liver inflammation) as those are key indicators for the liver. Atazanvir (REYATAZ) is known to elevate bilirubin levels in general (usually 20 to 35 once it levels off from starting therapy), however ritonavir is thought as more toxic to the liver than atazanvir. Truvada and Istenress are not know to interact with the liver so they should be OK.
