4552918 tn?1356986879 It is most unlikely that your sister was cured by Lamivudine in just a few months UNLESS she was infected as an adult, had acute Hepatitis B, and had a full recovery as most adults do. Lamivudine was just incidental. Lamivudine is no longer used to treat Hepatitis B in most countries, so the opinion here is that don't use Lamivudine. At the moment, there is no quick cure for chronic Hepatitis B. Tenofovir and Pegylated Interferon are both first line drugs for Hepatitis B.
Avatar f tn To test whether your father has responded to Tenofovir treatment, he should test his viral load (hbvdna) and ALT in about 6 months' time. Tenofovir is very effective, his viral load and ALT should come down significantly from the baseline values. Generally, Tenofovir has to taken for at least several years or longer. In a few lucky patients, Tenofovir may be stopped after meeting several criteria and under the advice and straight supervision by a HBV specialists.

Avatar m tn So personally, I will try to understand why your ALT is elevated, and to see whether it is still rising in a few weeks time, and to see what your viral load is doing. Finally, if your doctor is an expert in treating Hepatitis B, you may ask him why he is using both Tenofovir and PegIFN in your situation.
