Total abdominal hysterectomy procedure step by step

Common Questions and Answers about Total abdominal hysterectomy procedure step by step

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn The cervix is usually removed as well, and that entire procedure is called a total hysterectomy. There are two ways to do the surgery. The old-fashioned method is called a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, or TAH, meaning the work is done through an abdominal incision. Recovery time is easily 6 to 8 weeks. A Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH) means the uterus and cervix are removed through the vagina.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have edited this and am reposting it in hope that I get some replies. I don't know if it was just over looked at the time of posting or maybe it was too long! But I would really like some help, any information!!! I am fifty years old have been diagnosed with high risk HPV. Searching different stuff I am more confused than ever before. I was hoping to get a better understanding on my options on how I should proceed. My pap smear late last year came back abnormal.
Avatar f tn I recently had a D& C which showed endometrial cancer. Then had a hysterectomy which was supposed to be the end of it. Lymph nodes, tubes, ovaries all clear but because malig. cells showed up in pertoneal wash, I was upgraded to IIIA Grade 1.. What can I expect from here? Have an appt with gyn/onc at the end of the month, but my reg. gyn could/would not tell me what to expect.
Avatar f tn I am 24 and was diagnosed a few years ago as well. I have tried 5 different kinds of birth control, and none of them worked. I was spotting the whole time I was on them,. I was still having cramps, on top of all of the side effects from the birth control. My OB suggested an IUD. They are suppose to help out significantly. I would try it, but my husband and I have been ttc for a year. Have you had a LAP done yet, or did they diagnose you without one?
551683 tn?1220656108 I think I would just prefer, since child bearing is not an issue, to think about a hysterectomy as one procedure instead of two or three tests and/or biopsy. I know this probably sounds weird, but I suffer from so much pain from uncurable fibromyalgia that if some pain can be taken away, it looks promising. Does that make sense?
1931832 tn?1398880449 I had undergone Total Abdominal Hysterectomy last April 2012. And then after a month, I felt back pain. I thought it was the after effect of drugs during the procedure...as days went on, my knees had the same too..I went to see my OB and required blood tests for Potassium and Uric, it was found Negative, and immediately prescribed Difenax for pain, it helped though, but I had to see an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper evaluation. Undergo series of x-rays for my knees.
Avatar f tn s a common procedure, a hysterectomy is major surgery and takes easily 8 weeks to start feeling human again - particularly the open procedure. If lupron hasn't stopped your periods, then something is seriously whacko with your hormones. That's why it might be beneficial to see a hormone specialist (endochrinologist). They can be difficult to find outside a major city, but please think about it before venturing into major surgery.
411980 tn?1267555591 I was just recently told that i have a cyst on my right ovary and that it may be cancer and that i have to have a total hysterectomy with removal of the ovaries. I agree that i need the surgery but i am mostly worried about being put to sleep during the surgery. I have to have the open abdominal surgery and i would like to be awake for the surgery i want to be aware of whats going on.
Avatar f tn I am 10 months past my total hysterectomy, removal of omentum and rectal resection. My last check-up was last month and my C125 was in the normal range. I went off the Lexapro in a step-down process and finished a couple of days ago. But in the last few days I have had a slightly dizzy feeling. Could this be a withdrawal symptom? I am worried about a brain tumor, I guess because my sister-in-law died of brain cancer 2 months ago.
Avatar f tn You will probably find everyone has a different experience. I had a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy). Due to my diagnosis I was not a candidate for a laparoscopic procedure. I would prepare for the abdominal surgery so you have everything you need in case your doctor ends up going that route. Surgical menopause can be a difficult time for many ladies. Your doctor has probably already discussed hormones. I found a patch worked and still works really well for me.
Avatar n tn There are other reasons not to have a hysterectomy beyond not wanting any more children. These organs do play a part in your total health and you don't want to part with them unless necessary, especially at your age. I'm surprised you have to wait so long for your results. Usually it is only a few days. Do ask your doctor for something to help with the pain. You don't need to live with this.
Avatar m tn I had a salpingo oopherectomy on both sides, a hysterectomy as well as a appendectomy on February 5th 2013. I am 27 years old. Since the procedure was done I have had severe lower abdominal pain while urinating. I have been very sick. Does anyone have an idea of what this pain is from?

1145691 tn?1291478338 Anyways, one weekend while I was there (I was 18 by then), I was drinking and doing drugs with my step-brother (I know, bad, but I was a teen lol) and we were playing pool and having fun, I was really starting to feel "accepted".. Anyways,  I was wasted by bed time, and so was he.. My half-brother was asleep on top bunk-bed, he had lower bunk-bed, I made a bed on the floor..
Avatar f tn But I still hesitate -- I ask myself, is my case really severe enough to take this very final step of having a total hysterectomy? I know only I can make this decision for myself ... but how? What are the criteria some of you have used to "know" that you were making the right decision to have this surgery, in your heart and soul? I feel so conflicted.
Avatar n tn Sneeze and I would feel a sharp twinge inside my lower right pelvic bone! I finally had a total hysterectomy 5 months ago and I have never felt better. Those adhesions can cause so many problems. Make sure if you have any procedure done that your doctor remove any and all adhesions he can get to. Other symptoms went away following the removal, but they always come back due to endo. A helpful note: my doc told me that estrogen fertilizes endo and progesterone kills it off.
Avatar f tn I had my total hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. It was an abdominal one. I am still in a great deal of pain. And as well my abdomin is terribly swollen and kind of hard. And I have alot of draining with blood oozing from the bottom. I' didn't realize it was going to be this hard wow.
1670196 tn?1306841245 Having a total hysterectomy on Tuesday. I am SO nervous and have so much anxiety that if they could turn it into power, I think they could power the entire town I live in. I have to drink the magnesium citrate and I don't know the best way to go about it (because I HATE things that taste bad) and I don't know how to calm myself down about the surgery.
Avatar n tn For Example when I was on the pills my body hurt so bad in the morning and I couldnt do **** until I took a pill, but just getting up to get that pill was so damn tough. Now I woke up at 730 and by 740 I was fixing breakfast letting dog out etc..
Avatar f tn I had a ovarian cystectomy in 1986, total abdominal hysterectomy in 1994, bilateral salipingoophrectomy and ovarian cysts removed in 2005. This year I had a CAT scan for another medical issue and it was discovered that I had masses both right and left adenxal area. I went to the Cancer Institute of NJ for a consultation with a GYN/Oncologist. After numerous tests including MRI, Ultrasounds, CA-125 (negative) and I had lab work done which indicated I was premenopausal.
Avatar n tn I had a total abdominal hysterectomy about 8 weeks ago. I still feel pain in my lower abdomen, which I was told was normal and I feel it swelling by the end of the day having spent 7 hours in the office. What concerns me the most is the severe lower back pains. Regardless of what I do, it's there. I can be sitting or standing or lying down, it's just painful. I have a hard time bending down to pick up something off the floor. Is that normal?
