Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy total abdominal

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn There are two ways to do the surgery. The old-fashioned method is called a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy, or TAH, meaning the work is done through an abdominal incision. Recovery time is easily 6 to 8 weeks. A Total Vaginal Hysterectomy (TVH) means the uterus and cervix are removed through the vagina. A laparascope is used through tiny incisions in the abdomen to release the structures that hold the uterus in place.
1931832 tn?1398880449 I had undergone Total Abdominal Hysterectomy last April 2012. And then after a month, I felt back pain. I thought it was the after effect of drugs during the procedure...as days went on, my knees had the same too..I went to see my OB and required blood tests for Potassium and Uric, it was found Negative, and immediately prescribed Difenax for pain, it helped though, but I had to see an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper evaluation. Undergo series of x-rays for my knees.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone...I recently had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and could use advice. 2 days at home and had to return. A cat scan confirmed an abcess. I became in patient for 4days then sent home w an abdominal drain and bag. 2weeks nearly and cut revealed should be able to remove abdominal catheter and bag this week. How serious is an abcess just above vaginal wall, what can cause it, and what kind of questions should I be asking my doc?

Avatar f tn I had a total hysterectomy in 1997 which took care of my symptoms. The last couple of weeks I have had symptoms that feel like my endometriosis has returned. Is this possible?
Avatar f tn Hi - It's been 6 months since I had total abdominal hysterectomy due to Ovarian CA stage 1 (I had a large tumor in each of my ovaries). Luckily it was caught on time and I didn't need to go through chemo. However, I've been having pain on my left abdomen since the surgery. Is this normal? I still get bloated. Do any of you experience the same thing?

2131142 tn?1335648576 After many different treatments I opted for a total hysterectomy aged 36 had no children and was told before this that I probably had a 5% chance of conceiving through IVF. Although I don't get the horrible period pains I am still in almost permanent pain from what I was told were probably adhesions and I've pretty much been left for the past 10 years to cope on my own.
Avatar f tn I had a total abdominal hysterectomy 4 weeks ago and now my skin is so greasy! I kept my ovaries. Does anyone else have this?
Avatar m tn Well I also had a total abdominal hysterectomy and have 1 ovary left. I am as well very bloated omg. And I think I am having hot flashes as well. Thats a shame how when you go to doc you for get to ask these questions. So it is normal to still have so much bloating?
Avatar f tn You will probably find everyone has a different experience. I had a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy). Due to my diagnosis I was not a candidate for a laparoscopic procedure. I would prepare for the abdominal surgery so you have everything you need in case your doctor ends up going that route. Surgical menopause can be a difficult time for many ladies. Your doctor has probably already discussed hormones. I found a patch worked and still works really well for me.
Avatar f tn I had a total abdominal hysterectomy in July 2010. The total abdominal hysterectomy consists of the uterus and cervix being removed only. Your ovaries and tubes remain in place. If you opt to have your ovaries removed then in is considered a total abdominal hysterectomy with unilateral or bilateral salpingoophorectomy. The reason I know is my doctor put that description on my surgical consent form because I was facing having my ovaries removed as well due to a large cyst.
Avatar f tn ache under right rib ,and right kidney area, aches where my gall bladder was removed years ago,i had a total abdominal hysterectomy one years ago no ovaries,i take no hrt .
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone still has their cervix after going through a total abdominal hysterectomy? My doctor left mine intact after surgery because he said that it would help with IP therapy (ie, prevent leakage). I was stage 3c...but apparantly my cervix was ok. I'm almost 1 year post diagnosis and doing well...but was just curious about the cervix. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am 3 weeks post-op after having had a total abdominal hysterectomy with BSO. Spent 10 days in the hospital with a pretty bad post-op abdominal infection, 104 temps, large bowel ileus, vomiting, the whole gammit. Now I am home and healing, but having repeated hot flashes and night sweats. I'm finding it very hard to sleep, and along with the hot flashes are ridiculous spurts of being very quick to anger. Normally, I'm am a pretty calm person and not quick to anger.
Avatar n tn and curious, why just the ovaries?? I had a total abdominal hysterectomy in January and am still recovering from that. You should be writing down all your questions and take them with you to the doctor, so that you can ask the doctor and also write down the answers. Good luck!
Avatar n tn RELIEF IN SIGHT! They have scheduled my Total Abdominal Hysterectomy for a months from now. I am worried about the hormonal replacement and recovery time. I am only 29 years old and will have to replace my hormones for the rest of my life...I think? Considering that my hormones have been way off since I was a teenager, I think I might be able to feel better if they are regulated frequently. I have heard that recovery time from abdominal hysterectomy can be anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.
1203024 tn?1265536718 I had a total hysterectomy in 97 age 25 for endometriosis. The previous year i had to have surgery for severe right sided pain which was discovered to be caused by ovarian cysts on my right ovary. Hysterectomy removed my ovaries, cervix, etc.. 4 years ago i develoved lower right sided abdominal pain which came and went and varied in severity. I had urine tests which ruled out kidney stones, an abdominal x-ray and blood tests which revealed nothing.
915237 tn?1243173894 I am 28 yrs old and had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy on April 23rd. My question is what replacement hormones are the best or pros and cons i am currently awaiting my 4 week post op visit but wanted to gather info.
Avatar f tn Hi- Just wondering if anyone out there had any complications post total hysterectomy? I had mine 3 months ago due to several cysts again! Paternal grandma died of ovarian cancer at age 50. I had 15 years of cysts, and a total of 8 laporosopies. I am not even 40 yet! Any how, at my 8 wk check up my oncologist said everything was fine, no infection, no cancer, etc., I can try having sex with my husband. We did everything was fine.
