On Feb 1 I developed a severe red scratchy throat, and I still had several mouth ulcers. I took Augmentin 500 3x/day for 10days. After the 10days I still had a sore throat that feels like an ulcer down my throat, and I also still had about 10 mouth ulcers as well as swollen gums. I went to my Internal MD and he put me on Medrol dose pack and Levaquin. This initially helped w/ the mouth ulcers but the one down my throat got much worse. I was given a Celestone inj and put on Orapred.
The cause of apthous ulcers is unclear and they may be triggered by stress, diet and even viral infections. Herpes has been implicated but not directly so as one of the causes. (http://www.aafp.org/afp/20000701/149.html).
These disease conditions may be self limiting. Mucocele are clear bumps on the lip and may resolve spontaneously. Cold sores and apthous ulcers have no definite form of treatment. They may recur. It is best to avoid spicy food and hot beverages.
My guess is, that unless a swab test was taken from your throat that was positive for HSV 1, your doctor was covering all the possible diagnoses for ulcers in the throat and that would have to include HSV. Does your doctor know that you tested negative for HSV 1 repeatedly? Do you know if you had a swab test from the ulcers and what the result was?

back at the beginning of April this year I had a sore throat, I looked and saw I had a few ulcers/blisters in the back of my throat, I have never had these before, and they weren't there previous to that, I had just come off Omeprazole which I had been taking for acid reflux, and had been on them for 9 weeks.I had also just come off Yasmin contraceptive pill that i had been taking for around 8 years.
i read some where that gargling salt water wud ease the throat pain but it made it even worse .. has any one heard of pple getting sore throat and throat ulcers as an ars symptom ?? or could it be some other oral std ( we engaged in deep kissing for about 30 minutes and she usually gives unprotected bj to all her other clients ..
We have the same sores and the same occurrence of them, but I am also getting the throat ulcers and he is not. In addition, I have noticed that I have had tonsilloliths for sometime, and I'm thinking that my tonsils are harboring some kind of bacteria or something. I've also wondered if it's possible that participating in oral activities could have made them occur more frequently on the throat.
Between may and June I developed fluctuating body temperatures, chronic sore throat (even to the point of ulcers in my mouth), blocked sinuses and still the remaining breathlessness and tickly cough. I also started to develop earache. Visited a pulmonologist who gave me a spirometery test and said that I Do not have asthma. Was then told that the doctor doesn't like to label people but he thinks its 'probably' post viral fatigue syndrome.
my throat is still sore now 9 weeks , with spots on roof of mouth, back to doctors and she says its 'just viral and likes my throat cells' , i am ill with anxiety and still think the worst??? every time i type mouth ulcers or persistant sore throat it aleays comes up HIV/AIDS. I am going nuts , does anyone know what it can be? althought i tested neg at 5 and a half months , its as if i think the result is wrong ?
Fever swelling tongue, gums, roof of mounth, fever 100-101.3, sore throat, canker sores on tongue, roof of mouth just returned from Europe 5 days ago. What could this be? Took a strep test at quick clinic/neg.
I was thinking you could be describing a immune response to viral infections, because you say you usually get swollen glands and sore throat, though it seems doubtfull if its been going on for months on end. I"m not sure if i'm reading what you've said wrong, are you getting the ulcers, swollen glands and sore throat for a couple of weeks, then it goes away (on its own) for a few more, back again etc?

I've never had a canker sore before and I was not really overly stressed or anxious (until I noticed these sores). They appeared first as little dark red spots and then turned into these white sores with a red ring around them the next day.
April 9th developed fever of approximately 38.5 degrees. Next day presented with sore throat that was isolated only to the right side, very painful, also what I perceived was a swollen gland, again right side neck area only. Fever went away at about 72-96 hours, sore throat about 96.
Was able to work and just felt like I had flu.
For roughly the last 2 months I been told by a Dr that I was fighting a viral infection all the flu symptoms went away besides my 2 mouth ulcers and diarrhea. at first the Dr said don't worry about it but how can i not if its been 2 months and still their... I'm worried that it can be something major but who knows... I just pray to god to take my pain away since its hard for me to deal with this. please if anyone can help let me know thank you!

I first noticed these ulcers when I had a sore throat 3 months ago. I went to my GP and he told me they were either due to a viral or bacterial infection and would go on their own. He told me to gargle Corsodyl. I did and they haven't changed. I have also tried gargling salt water, L-lysine but nothing has helped at all.
On 1 January 2013, I had a flu-like ilness, very high fever, night sweats, strong chills, mouth ulcers, sore throat, itchy skin and a small rash, red and maculopapular reappeared on my left cheek. The fever, night sweats, chills and the face rash subsided in a few days, but the other symptoms of illness remained.

ve never been sick like that before. I had all the symptoms of acute infection except no ulcers. Part of the illness included an infection in the throat. The infection was cleared up with antibiotics but i was still very tired for a few weeks.
Could this have been acute infection? Do people ever get sore throat that clear up with antibiotics during the window period? I know that antibiotics don't help viral infections but I wonder if it could have been an opportunistic infection.
His throat will be very red, and sometimes he has ulcers in his throat as well. His doctor says that it probably starts with a viral infection and then causes his throat to become very infected. The doctor also says that he could be picking up bacteria from his hands. Toddlers tend to put their hands in their mouths alot ( and my son ***** his thumb when he is sleepy).I wash his hands often but he still gets these throat infections.
Generally, if you did have Genital Herpes, your boyfriend would present with cold-sores, not necessarily viral throat ulcers. The symptoms he is experiencing may very well be unrelated to the oral sex encounter. Then again, if you are concerned, ask him to get blood test done as well.
The risk of contracting HSV from an oral encounter, whether giving or receiving is low risk.
