Avatar m tn Hi there, The common causes of hot flashes in males are andropause, thyroid disorders and aging hormones. As a man ages his body produces less testosterone and androgen which may cause hot flashes. Other causes of hot flashes are infections like HIV and tuberculosis. Use of medications like Nifedipine and Calcitonin and certain antibiotics are few other causes of hot flashes. Sometimes food containing monosodium glutamate can cause hot flashes.

Avatar m tn However, It has not been definitively established that the decline in testosterone seen in most aging men results in an androgen deficient state with health-related outcomes that can be improved by testosterone therapy. Hence, I’ll not recommend the same. Still, it’s good to consult an endocrinologist for the same and seek an opinion. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn Free testosterone is the biologically active form of this hormone measured in the blood. Total testosterone blood levels are not as reliable an indicator of an aging man’s testosterone status as free testosterone.
Avatar m tn An adequate intake of indole-3-carbinol (I3C), through vegetables such as broccoli, brussels sprouts, and cabbage, or via supplements, may prove to be very helpful for aging men in both keeping estrogen levels in check and decreasing their risk of prostate cancer. 5. Zinc is essential for optimal testosterone production. One supplement that should be considered absolutely essential for maintaining a man’s testosterone levels is zinc.

Avatar m tn i'm a 50 yr old woman who had a complete t hyroidectomy nrly 3 yrs ago, and i currently take 125 mcg of synthriod. i'm wondering if there is ANY AT ALL connection between *other hormones [namely *estrogen, *progesterone, & *testosterone] & their levels in my body and my tsh levels? in other words, can a woman's tsh levels &/or taking 'synthroid', have any direct or indirect influence on any *other hormones in her body?
Avatar n tn I'd like to know what my blood test results may mean. I've taking diet pills (ephedrine/caffeine) for a few years. In last year my endurance has decline. About 8 months ago I started noticing Fatigue, memory problems, body aches and problems maintaining erections. I started taking pregnenolone and 7-keto DHEA thinking it would increase testosterone. I finally went to my doctor 2 1/2 months ago. He ordered blood tests.
Avatar m tn These same men are also told that diminished ejaculate volume is also simply a matter of aging. Gladly speaking for all men this is all a bunch of BS and its time we stood up for what we are by our very biological makeup. It should make no difference weather a man is trying to make a child or not ,both his erections and ejaculate volume are a large part of his alpha male status. To say these diminish with age is also BS .
Avatar m tn As we men age, our testosterone depletes fairly quickly. I read somewhere that after the age of 35, our testosterone ("T" count) drops like 5% a year or something like that. I would consider getting your T levels checked because those can greatly affect the intensity and volume of your O's. I started getting T therapy when I turned 40, and I have noticed MASSIVE difference in how things feel.
Avatar m tn Free testosterone concentrations are reduced in men with primary hypothyroidism and thyroid hormone replacement normalizes free testosterone concentrations.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I'm not familiar with this particular one, but did a little research and from what I've read, it's main claim to fame is the HGH. HGH naturally declines as we age; my sister was given HGH as part of her leukemia treatment; it neither helped her skin, nor helped her lose weight. I've never been one to recommend products of this type. They're not approved by FDA and you have no idea what you're really getting.
Avatar m tn Body fat contains aromatase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into estrogens, the female sex hormone in women. Having extra estrogens triggers your body to slow its production of testosterone. And the less testosterone you make, the more belly fat you accumulate and the more estrogens you have. Researchers have also targeted midriff weight as the strongest predictor of a condition called symptomatic androgen deficiency, or AD.
401095 tn?1351391770 boosts levels of testosterone in men and estrogen and testosterone in women...I do know that if you have a reproductive gland tumor like prostate cance u r not supposed to take it...anyway i have been taking 10 mg for years but have never been diligent with it everyday...then my friend went to the doctor and she is worn out and he told her to take it....she is also a recovering addict...I was always scared it would make me grow hair on my chest so i took it in small doses...
Avatar m tn s the cause, which is the case for most aging men. Just do some research.
4326355 tn?1354357341 Thanks for the response. I had my fsh level checked and my prolactin checked after my testosterone came back at 48, and those tests came back normal. My urologist then had me go in for a testicular ultrasound to see if there was anything wrong with them and they came back normal as well. So My urologist put me on a testosterone replacement therapy and I'm having my testosterone checked in January to see if the levels have come up at all.
Avatar m tn Testosterone Therapy May Increase Mortality, The study, published in JAMA, noted that “a recent randomized clinical trial of testosterone therapy in men with a high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases was stopped prematurely due to adverse cardiovascular events.
Avatar f tn A problem is, testosterone varies a whole lot in both men and women, by the day, hour, week, etc. and even more in women than men, so the only true way to know if you had abnormally low levels would have been to test you a lot, not just twice. You did have the same levels twice, so it might be a problem. A question would be, how's your sexual desire? How's your stamina? How's your ability to build muscle? How's your energy levels?
Avatar n tn I've heard (and read) that some can. I'm reasonably certain that some can't. Sometime around 45-50 years old the level of testosterone in the blood starts to decrease. By the time a man is 90 it is likely his testerone level is so low that he not only can't get enough of an erection to masturbate but he loses interest in sex and doesn't feel the need to.
Avatar m tn How old are you? Libido can decrease for a number of reasons. Some psychological (any age), and, some physical, which includes aging. Some time after age 55 or so many totally normal men lose interest in sex. About 50% by age 60. That "depression" stuff is not part of it, though.
Avatar n tn My first thought, however, is the time of day when you had the test done. Testosterone levels are highest early in the day in young men and if your blood was drawn late in the day the timing alone may be the real reason for the low level. Your question was not intentionally skipped. Sorry for the delay. Good luck with your surgery and I hope that my comments were helpful. S.A.Liroff, M.D.
Avatar n tn I would go in and get my testosterone checked. Viagra works mostly on blood vessels, but not on testosterone and can't fix structural problems a urologist might be able to find with diagnostic screening. Worth a try.
Avatar n tn I have most of the classic symptoms with Low Testosterone: Low libido, fat in mid-section, fatigue, grumpy, low stamina, medium/weak erections etc., Went to my Urologist. After blood work, he said I was fine and prescribed nothing. I'm thinking he's crazy. Can someone review my readings and give me an unofficial recommendation? I'm thinking I should've been recommended some sort of therapy, and if so, which therapy is good for my situation?
Avatar m tn Problems such as chronic illness (mumps in childhood which damaged testis), aging (not in your case), starvation, head injury, surgeries in testicular area, cancers, infections, and alcoholism are also among the causes of low testosterone levels. Chronic use of steroids can cause a decrease in testosterone level. Please consult an endocrine specialist and an urologist. You can also increase the testosterone level by taking more of meat, salmon fish, yellow, red and green fruits and vegetables.
950277 tn?1247274551 Testosterone can be a possible cause - but you would likely be experiencing other symptoms of low testosterone (decreased energy, depressed mood, erectile problems, etc). You can always talk to your doctor about this and have him/her check your testosterone to make sure it is within normal range.
Avatar f tn Why do men wake up erect and ready to go? When I wake up in the morning, sex is the last thing I am thinking about but my BF always wants a little action. I don't mind it but it takes me a while to get excited and he doesn't seem to need anything to get in the mood. Just wake up and ready to go. He is very considerate and good at it so it's nice. He is 51 and I'm 48 but we both look younger than our age. Neither have children so no stress there. Anyone have any ideas?
Avatar m tn I'm not a doctor but this may be related to a drop in testosterone levels. I suggest you go see a urologist and do some tests. I also suggest you try to improve your lifestyle (eat healthy, get some exercise): this is the best possible way to increase your testosterone levels.
