Avatar f tn Long term pain management with opiates cause sexual dysfunction of 50% of all patients, both men and women. It causes testosterone deficiencies in both men and women, which is called hypogonadism. Docs are supposed to monitor testosterone levels, but seldom do because the topic just doesn't come up in the Doctors office. It's not just men that need to worry either, in fact it's of critical importance to women. Check it out, there's a lot more to read: pain-topics.
Avatar f tn With men, the issue of concern is testosterone deficiency, while with women the concern is excess testosterone production. So no problem indicated there. Not sure why the doctor ran the FSH test for you at age 73. There is room to increase your thyroid med but in the absence of other symptoms I'd be hard pressed to say that an increase is what you need. By the way, what dosage of Armour are you taking daily?
Avatar f tn Obviously, anything that gives you side effects that bad is probably not the right treatment for you. Generally, women aren't given that treatment as it can cause acne, hair growth where women don't want it, and other male attributes. In your case, you had low testosterone and high SHBG, which might have been able to be treated by dietary changes. But people are different. A problem is, testosterone varies a whole lot in both men and women, by the day, hour, week, etc.
Avatar m tn Baldness can be one of the most disturbing side effects of excess testosterone or its derivatives, as testosterone is converted by an enzyme (5-alpha-reductase) into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is much more powerful than testosterone and commonly contributes to hair loss. Of course, there are other much simpler explanations and treatments for sexual dysfunction. For instance, one important factor that is very often overlooked by experts is the loss of sensitivity in the skin of the penis.

Avatar m tn the good old DHEA, but you better read up about it first as it can have some funny side effects with the odd person, you could also back it up with some Tirbulus, will do the same thing but without any side effects, they will both boost your testosterone, your libido and your energy levels, you can google Tribulus for any more info.
Avatar m tn I just finished my first 3 months and he warned me I would feel the effects coming off testosterone. Needless to say I have zero energy now, inability to focus, extremely tired and have a dull achy feel all around. I have been reading that one should not just go cold turkey and quit testosterone, but rather go on a post treatment consisting of many different supplements and/or drugs. The most common one which keeps coming up is HCG ( Human chorionic gonadotropin).
Avatar f tn Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a side effect for men taking Adderall. Men report a decreased interest in sex and difficulty getting and keeping an erection. This change in sex drive or sexual performance can cause distress and embarrassment." Just because it never affected you that way before doesn't mean it isn't affecting you now. Maybe your body has changed its reaction to your dose. Talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Thank you for writing to us here, though I am sorry that you are struggling with side effects from the result of breast cancer medication. I am also a breast cancer survivor, however as I am triple negative, the hormonal drugs are not effective for me so unfortunately I cant speak from experience. However, that doesn't mean that I cant find out some interesting information for you in relation to libido and Arimidex.
484508 tn?1290010544 So, supplementation with testosterone might help you. Side effects of testosterone therapy if done in excess can lead to neoplasm’s in the genital organs, gonads. Kindly consult an endocrinologist in this regard. Take care.
Avatar f tn Suboxone not only effects sex drive it effects Testosterone levels. There is a lot of misunderstanding of this out there. Viagra and Cialis without sex drive equals an erection that allows for sex but no satisfaction to the male if there is no drive. Low testosterone causes low sex drive and erectile dysfunction.
Avatar n tn Results are sometimes disappointing and there could be side effects. There are natural ways to improve testosterone levels (e.g. tongkat ali), ask your doctor about them. b) I know Dostinex (cabergoline) is an effective treatment for high prolactine. I've tried Dostinex recently to improve my libido but results were disappointing. c) Have you tried a PDE-5 inhibitor (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra)?
Avatar m tn My testosterone levels are very Low. In the 300's. I'm thirty years old. I've done some research and see it should be much higher. I have been on anti depressants since I was in my late teens-early twenties. I would imagine it's not a coincidence. I have all of the symptoms of Low T, some which could also be the side effects of ssri's and anxiety meds. I can't go without those meds. Not yet anyway, I've tried and I need medication to function.
Avatar m tn Is your endo a pituitary endo at a pituitary center? Was the MRI a dynamic pituitary MRI with contrast and the images recorded the uptake of the contrast? Has anyone else besides a radiologist seen the film? If your endo is not a neuro-endo, find one (larger hospital, university hospital). If he/she is, find another. Did you get other tests on the pituitary and at 8am fasting? What about cortisol testing? That can lower testosterone too.
Avatar n tn Where you are on any medications or not, it would be a good idea for the doctor to do a blood test to check your testosterone levels. Some men do get low levels of testosterone and there are testosterone gels that are applied to a limb to absorb the hormone. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn Ok, a bit youg but give DHEA a try, but please read up about it before you go on it as it can have some funny side effects with some people, this will boost you up all round your sexual levals, start low 25mg day and work it up to what you think is best for you, you can also back this up with Tribulus again it covers most of the same things, but DHEA is a hormon booster, they are both over the counter things to buy or you can get them from PP or amazon.
Avatar f tn Hi. Your husband's testosterone was low, and normally they give testosterone shots for this, or I should say "you" would be giving your husband the shots. But he can also have the nurse at his doctor's office give them to him. It's good that he saw an Endo, and he/she really can't comment until his test results come back. At this time she will have lots to discuss with you.
Avatar m tn Hello, You should not take the testosterone injections unless and until the levels of testosterone has been found to be low. Testosterone injections has many side effects and these include cholesterol levels alteration, cognitive and behavior changes, numbness, tingling sensation, loss of appetite, increased thirst, male patterned baldness, and breast swelling in men.
737515 tn?1252552423 I know that all men suffer a decrease in testosterone starting in their 30's, but again that isn't connected to a reaction that starts only when you go on an antidepressant. Having low testosterone, a disease state, is probably not very common overall, but yeah, we do get lower as we age. But for all I now it's more of a nitric oxide problem, which is much more responsible for performance than testosterone is.
