Avatar m tn 1/4 of a pill (2.5mg) Week 2: 1/2 of a pill (5mg) Week 3: 3/4 of a pill (7.5mg) Week 4: 1 pill (10mg) I'm currently on day 4 of taking 5mg and still don't feel a difference. Seems like my anxiety is higher and I've been having more depressive moments. The only side effects i've expericenced have been drowsiness and feeling sleepy. Does anyone know if I should wait longer or stop?
212161 tn?1537898045 I've had anxiety difficulties for 15 years and so yes I've had all of your symptoms at one time or another. I hate side effects too, so I start on meds very slowly. You could do the same. Take one or two mgs to start with and work up slowly - a milligram every day or every two days if you like. Whatever makes you comfortable. That way your body won't have to adjust to a huge dose all at once. I basically cannot eat at all when I am anxious, so I know how you feel.
458072 tn?1291418786 I am weaning off of Lexapro now. I was "put" on it instead of treating my mild hypothyroidism. I had terrible anxiety and insomnia when my TSH rose just slightly. I was on 10 mg for 6 months and had no real trouble. Some nausea and hot flashes the first week and then nothing. I didn't even know I was taking it. I have weaned off VERY slowly. I first went to 7.5 (3/4) pill and was naseuous for a week and stayed on that dose for a month. Then doen to 5 mg and now I am on 2.5 mg.
Avatar f tn I have been reading how helpful all those are to battle depression/ and or ADD naturally and I am currently just off of 10 mg. Lexapro---I quit cold turkey w/ the advice of my pyschiatrist b/c I was only on it for 15 days. Just feeling sleepy and moody...that's all but I don't ever want to be on any antidep. again. I am 34 female. Thanks!! By the way to the husband----I really think these suppliments could be very helpful....I have been reading so much info. on this. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I've taken a few different AD's thru the years (at different times for each), and some were a breeze to start, others had some pretty awful side effects. The good news is...those side effects started improving for me usually by the 2nd week, and once they started getting better, they went away pretty quickly. Hang in there...keep the line of communication open with your doc and of course, we're here for you too!
Avatar f tn I have an appointment with my doctor 3/12 to talk about coming off Lexapro without suffering the side effects. Does anyone know of natural supplements to help with withdrawal symptoms, or any experience in withdrawing succesfully without too many side effects?
Avatar n tn Paxil and most definately Lexapro have had the worst side effects and withdrawal symptoms of any that I have been prescribed. Yes, those electic Zaps are from Lexapro withdrawal!!
387056 tn?1200447377 Has anyone had severe Lexapro withdrawl symptoms from stopping too quickly? If so, what were they and how long did they take to resolve?
Avatar f tn i have decided to stop taking lexapro after a year b/c of side effects. i was taking 20mg lowered it to 10 and i have gotten down to 5mg this week. a few days of taking only 5mg has made me really dizzy i have also been really irritable which turns into anger and then i cry. the things im getting mad and upset are about arent even anything serious i feel like an emotional wreck. are these withdrawal symptoms??? how long does it take for them to subside.
358304 tn?1409713092 I think your underlying anxiety is creating this fear of what your body is going through right now. Side effects of Lexapro in the GI category CAN include: nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, cramps, vomiting, constipation, GAS.................you stated you had pretty much all of these symptoms with the exception of dry mouth. So, do I think this stew of symptoms could POSSIBLY be related to a too fast w/d from Lexapro? Sure. (And do remember, I AM NOT A DOCTOR!!!!!
415356 tn?1233320876 Even tho Lexapro usually, and I repeat, USUALLY, does NOT require a taper, everyone is different. Two of the side effects you describe are indeed often experienced while stopping Lexapro. CNS (central nervous system) side effects include dizziness AND poor concentration. If you feel dizzy while moving your head, then move your head slower until this symptom disappears, which it will. Your concentration will also return to normal when all the meds are out of your system.
Avatar f tn Your doctor may be able to suggest other over the counter medicine that will just curb some of the side-effects of the withdrawal. Tapering down is sometimes the only way to make it, and it's incredibly frustrating to feel your body going through addiction and withdrawal to a prescribed medicine. Just keep in mind that you're not alone, and there's -alot- of forums devoted to helping people who are going through Lexapro withdrawal.
Avatar n tn It may come out some number of years down the road that the side effects of this medication could be permanent, as I have heard of cases that some of the effects were. For me, the side effects have far out weighed the benefits of this medication. My advice.. don't just take your doctor's word about the effects of a medication. Do some research and ask a lot of questions. I have lost time at work due to illness from this medication and hundreds of dollars in doctor bills.
Avatar n tn ( Lexapro withdrawls) I was taking 5mgs of Lexapro for several months and doing just fine. Of course the whole time I took Lexapro I had really no BAD side effects other than the ones I listed before. So Lexapro was generally making me feel really good and happy. I gained weight but it filled me out in all the right places. :) I was doing fine. THEN in November of 2004 I started to have head jerks when I would fall asleep..and I would be thinking..
Avatar n tn I decided to ditch the family practice MD and found a Psychiatrist, MD with the goal to start the process of weaning of these drugs. I felt the side effects while on the drug were hindering my day-to-day life. In summary, I felt worse on the drug than any benefit I received from the drug. After a trial and error process, it took me about 6 months to wean off 10 mg of Lexapro going down in 2.5 mg increments. I was very sensitive to coming off this drug.
Avatar n tn I would go to every other day...then every third day...and then slowly to not taking it. I experienced side effects of withdrawal each time, but nothing unbearable. I think it's good to let your dr. know you're weaning off of them. May I ask why you're coming off of Lexapro?? I'm asking because my dr. suggested me taking it. Good luck!!
Avatar n tn I have taken 5 mg Cipralex (Lexapro, Escitalopram) for 6 days but I am stopping because I cannot deal with the side effects. Am I likely to develop any type of withdrawal symptoms after such a short period of time on the medication? I experienced withdrawal symptoms when weaning off Paxil three years ago.
Avatar m tn I have been taking lexapro 10mg for 8 months for postpartum anxiety and depression. After 6 months of talk therapy and some lifestyle changes I have felt like stopping the lexapro. My dr. said I would not have any side effects from going cold turkey off of 10 mg. I stopped a week ago. I have been exhausted all week and yesterday started feeling some extreme vertigo, hot flashes and nauseousness. I called my psychiatrist and they cannot get me in for 2 weeks. Infuriating.
Avatar n tn While I have not been on Lexapro I did a gradual taper from another SSRI, Zoloft, and experienced some side effects like you are describing for a couple of weeks after I stopped. I applaud you for working closely with your doctor. You are taking the right steps; just continue to work with him/her. The side effects will wean and while everybody is different I also think it will be ok.
Avatar n tn To start the taper, I would recommend trying to take ½ tablet (5mg) daily for approximately 2 weeks, seeing if you have any withdrawal symptoms and then continue the taper by stopping the medication completely. If you experience side effects at either taper step, you could do a more gradual taper of cutting the tablet into quarters (1/4 – yielding four 2.5 mg sections) and starting with ¾ (7.5mg) for two weeks, then ½ tablet (5mg) for two weeks, then ¼ (2.
Avatar f tn Side effects tend to go away with time so you might want to consider not dropping it yet. It takes up to 8 weeks to receive the full effect, and you have been on the lowest dose that a lot of people don't get any effect on. However I would discuss the dizzy feeling with doc if you feel this way for a few days. Everyone is different and some people come off this med with no withdrawal, but don't cold turkey off any med like this unless doc says it is ok.
Avatar f tn I have been on lexapro for about 10 month, 20 mg. I am also on trazadone 50 mg because of problems with sustaining sound sleep for 8 months after battling serious pain issues after a serious auto accident. I am having side effects such as feeling emotionally numb and my libido is gone. I have a history of panic attacks, anxiety, fears, worry and obsessive thoughts. I have recently began psychotherapy and I have made changes in my diet, exercise and I use supplements.
Avatar n tn You name it I got it, anyways it started to get a little bit better in terms of physical symptoms after almost a month from stopping. But for some reason since that I feel my anxiety has became worse than ever before I started taking the xanax, and also I started getting panic attacks where in the past I never had a panic attack ever.
Avatar n tn How long do you have to be on lexapro before stopping will cause withdrawal symptoms. I have only been on it it a week and want off now.
Avatar f tn I took it for about 4-5 months and it worked great. I felt better and I had no type of side effects. I had no problems getting off of it either, no type of withdrawal symptoms or anything. Well in recent months, I have had a very stressful time, which has brought back my anxiety back full force. My attacks were so bad that it was affecting my daily living. I did eventually start to feel better through exercise but the attacks were still lingereing around.
Avatar n tn aside from feeling generally crappy after that I also started to feel like my 15mg of Lexapro that I have been taking daily since mid july stopped working. Alot of the side effects I had while ramping up on it seemed to come back. I know the bottle says do not take alcohol on this drug but my psych told me a drink or two is OK just that it might amplify the effects of the alcohol so not to take too much. Unfortunately this past weekend I think I overdid that.
Avatar n tn yes, all of the side effects will go away. You have had a withdrawal reaction and the worst of it is over...expect to have no more symptoms from lexapro after about another week.
213972 tn?1206053788 I love lexapro! No side affects! Paxil was awfull for me to get off of, it took me 5 months to wean off of it. And you do not gain weight from Lexapro. My best friends wife is a psycologist, and she told me that lexapro is a "neutral" , while some others do have a weight gain effect. The only thing i can say about people gaining weight is they feel better on the medication (relief of anxiety), therfore they tend to eat more.
