Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal symptoms doctor

lexapro

Avatar m tn Yes that is the kind of symptoms and I would expect from the abrupt withdrawal of this medication. There are usually flu-like symptoms and sweating is one of them so don't be surprised if you have the others also. It is usually unwise to stop these medications abruptly but you can get away with it with this medication but will not get away with it if you try to stop Lexapro abruptly.
Avatar n tn I am still having horrible withdrawal symptoms. My doctor said its not normal that i am still feeling withdrawal symptoms after 2 weeks. I have been weening off it for about 3 weeks to a month. I decided after taking 5mg for about 1.5 weeks that I am going to stop taking it all together. Of course the symptoms are still there. I am very dizzy. Turning my eyes just a slight hurts like everyone describes, "an electrical shock". It is constant. I am always very hot and have nausea.
Avatar m tn Who are we? You and the Doctor? Why were you prescribed Lexapro to begin with? Depression/anxiety? Keep in mind that a symptom of depression is a significant change in apetite. I have experienced unpleasant symptoms several times when discontinuing an anti deoressant and starting another but they pass and improve. If you discontinue too fast you may experience nausea, sweating, upset stomach, headache, neck pain or vomiting. Symptoms of depression/anxiety may also return.
Avatar f tn I am taking Prozac, and I have read some articles saying that some doctors prescribe prozac for a month to help decrease the withdrawal symptoms from Lexapro, and then get off the prozac. I guess the Prozac doesn't seem to have such bad withdrawal effects. When I quit Lexapro cold turkey.. all I had were brain zaps and dizziness. When I quit the Prozac, i had occasional brainzaps, but that is all.
Avatar m tn I would recommend talking to your doctor. I have been on several AD's over the years (Lexapro being one of them) and have found tapering to be a better route than CT. You will most likely get some flu-like symptoms (chills, body aches, etc), but the one that is always worst for me is the "brain zaps"...which is always worst with CT. They linger for some time and freak me out. Yes, everybody is different, but the zaps seem to be fairly common.
Avatar f tn It may be a withdrawal symptom. Are you feeling alright physically otherwise? I'm wondering if you might be getting chest cold.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Lexapro usually occurs when patients stop the medication suddenly. If your plan is to stop lexapro, your doctor will wean you off of it slowly so that you can minimize any withdrawal symptoms you may experience. However seizing is not a common withdrawal symptom when stopping Lexapro. I would discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your doctor and be clear. He/she will be able to help and work with you.

Avatar n tn I have been off of lexapro for about a month now. My doctor would not give me anymore when I ran out. I still feel dizzy, and feel some anger, and depression. What should I do?
Avatar n tn Now, after the 4th week, and a lot of improvement, I am having diarrhea and headache and flu like symptoms. Could these symptoms be related to withdrawal at this later date? How long does withdrawal take? When should I expect to feel total relief?
Avatar f tn I am going through awful lexapro withdrawals. One doctor wants me to try prozac-10 mg another doctor wants me to try wellburtin-150mg. I thought I could get through the withdrawals without any help, but no way. I am about to go crazy. What do I do?
Avatar n tn The Doctor took him off of lexapro within a 10-day window and now is has the sensation of being very sensitive to noises especially in the mornings it is even more intense. He has a continual noise in his head like a tsh tsh tsh sound and he is very sensitive to noises such as he can feel certain sounds going through his body. Is this sensitivity to noises part of the brain zaps i have been reading about, he does have the brain zap shock feeling also.

Avatar f tn My doctor thought that Lexapro was not working. I went 3 weeks without taking Lexapro and it was sooo bad. So the doctor put me back on 2.5 mg and a program to taper. Here is my question. Why are I waking up every morning with anxiety, hot, racing heart, and nervous stomach? I stay hot all day. My face feels like it is on fire. My heart fills like it is racing but when I take my pulse rate it seems to be ok.
Avatar n tn If you are considering tapering of your medication you should consult your primary care physician first and it should be done under their supervision in order to monitor any symptoms you may experience. When discontinuing an SSRI, such as Lexapro (Escitalopram), there is a possibility of experiencing withdrawal type symptoms if abruptly stopped thus tapering would be appropriate.
Avatar n tn Help! I discontinued Lexapro about a month ago. My doctor told me to "taper" off. I reduced my dosage by 2.5mg. per week for one month. I was on 10mg. and had been for 8 months. Since discontinuing the Lexapro, I have had horrible anxiety, agitation, head pulsing, electrical "shock-like" feelings in my head and a burning sensation within my body, particularly in my arms. I am also extremely impatient and irritable.
Avatar m tn I have a hard time believing this because these symptoms feel like little brain zaps that you get from lexapro withdrawal. I recently went down to 5 mg and the symptoms seemed to worsen. However, going up to 20mg made me feel weird. Currently I am transitioning to Cymbalta and I am off lexapro. It has only been a few days but the brain zaps are terrible! Can anyone please help me figure out what is going on, and how long I might experience these horrible symptoms!?
Avatar m tn Hi guys. I started taking Lexapro for my depression/generalized anxiety disorder about two years ago. For the first year, I took the drug every day as prescribed by the doctor. I didn't get any side effects which I thought was great. The drug wasn't of much help, though. A year ago, I decided to stop taking Lexapro on my own. I tried quitting it cold turkey but I wasn't able to follow through with it because of the withdrawal effects.
446244 tn?1205197668 no more depression. however, i have been experiencing sporadic withdrawal symptoms.....except for the load constant ringing in my head, not my ears, my head. it is driving me crazy....sporadically i have the brain gushing......it's like a loud gush sound and feeling and then it's gone.....then a dizzy spell.....it's very scary.....is this serious and need attention or should i just live thru it.....will it go away without further medication?
Avatar m tn Has anyone experienced any of these when stopping Lexapro? I am trying to decipher if these symptoms are just anxiety or if it is due to the withdrawl from the Lexapro. If anyone has any advice please let me know.
Avatar f tn keep riding it out. if the symptoms persist after a few days checj in with your Doctor. I have been on Lexapro for a couple years, and before that paxil. I haven't heard of too many problems after just a few days. Good luck, and i hope you feel better.
