Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal irritability

lexapro

Avatar f tn Although I'm not a physician, I do know from experience about Lexapro withdrawal -- here is what I found to be HIGHLY effective: 5-HTP / St. John's Wort / B-Complex supplements. I PROMISE YOU, although it will take time, YOU WILL GET BETTER. Looking back, it seems like it took a month or more to get over the majority of the symptoms -- some residual symptoms even longer. BUT HANG IN THERE!!!!
Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
Avatar n tn When discontinuing an SSRI, such as Lexapro (Escitalopram), there is a possibility of experiencing withdrawal type symptoms if abruptly stopped thus tapering would be appropriate. Symptoms of withdrawal include irritability, dizziness, sensory disturbances, headache, insomnia, confusion, anxiety, and in severe cases seizures. If you follow a tapering schedule and these symptoms still occur, resuming your previous dose with a more gradual taper should be considered.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know how long it takes to withdrawal from tramadol? I am in the process of tapering and want to know when the worst sets in how long I should take off work.? Also I am on seroquel, lexapro, and lamictal for bipolar so I'm hoping because I am those that the mental withdrawal might not be so bad. Is that just wishful thinking or possible? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My son wanted to get off antidepressants so the doctor suggested he go on prozac to counteract the wd from effexor.....(75mg) prozacs half life is 5 weeks , while effexors is less than 24 hours...so it's really hard to go off it especially if you have been on it for a while...even if they lower the dose to wean you it's pretty bad....withdrawal is awful. He's never been on Lexapro so I can't tell you if that will do the same thing...ease the withdrawal.
Avatar n tn If you respond well to Celexa then you might respond even better to Lexapro. Lexapro is a the next generation of Celexa. You can research it to better understand hard to explain in chemistry terms. The side effects of Lexapro tend to be less severe than Celexa also. The above answer that was left by Paxiled is all correct as well.
632919 tn?1252774093 Right now, my pdoc and I decided that it might be beneficial to try a med washout period. So, I have been trying to get off Effexor for the last few weeks. I had been on 75mg since November. I started by alternating 75mg one day with 37.5mg the next, then 37.5mg for one week, then 37.5mg every other day. I didn't make it a week with 37.5mg every other day because the withdrawal was so bad. So now I am taking 25mg generic immediate-release venlafaxine for one week, then 12.
Avatar f tn Been taking Lexapro for about 2 weeks now, definitely feel a difference. Just worried about the weight gain side effect I have read so much about!! Seems to be my only worry right now! Has anyone NOT gained weight while taking Lexapro?? Hope everyone is having a great day!
Avatar f tn You may experience some symptoms of a discontinuation syndrome (aka "withdrawal"), but if you have a good doctor who knows his/her stuff, you should be just fine. You need to make sure that you ask your doc to help you formulate a SLOW and gradual taper plan. If a taper is done properly, the symptoms of withdrawal are either greatly minimized, or eliminated all together.
Avatar m tn Lexapro is a permanent life long cure for any depression if you can survive the treatment. I was prompted by a marriage counselor to go to my doctor and request drugs for my OCD symptoms (checking, intrusive sad thoughts, previous eating disorders as a teen and heavy drinking-probably perpetuated by my father’s suicide in 1981 while he was on imipramine and numerous other psych med’s) I went to my husband’s pcp who never met me before.
Avatar n tn ” It is important to develop a specific tapering schedule with your health care provider to minimize Lexapro withdrawl symptoms. Anyone discontinuing Lexapro runs the risk of suffering from withdrawal symptoms. Over 50 different symptoms have been reported with antidepressant withdrawal, with dizziness nausea, fatigue, headache, gait instability and insomnia the most common. Avatar f tn I recently weaned myself off of lexapro after using it for about 8 years. Everything has gone weexcept for one very troubling problem that continues some 3 weeks since I last took my last small dose of lexapro. Nearly every night as I prepare to go to bed I start to get warm and then I start getting the shakes. I get under the covers and try to get warm.. Once I have warmed with in afew hours of sleep I am awoken from the results of night sweats, which have left my sheets and pillows wet.
135456 tn?1301437624 I took lexapro on TX for irritability. Started with 5, went up to 10 as recommended but then went back down to 5 within just a few weeks (the 10 was too much for me). It managed the interferon induced irritability just fine and I never felt a bit different from my normal self. Can't say how it works on a non-TX affected body, but why not try going down for a week or 2 to see if it can still do the job at half dose? Only you, as the patient, can judge the proper dose for you.
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Lexapro usually occurs when patients stop the medication suddenly. If your plan is to stop lexapro, your doctor will wean you off of it slowly so that you can minimize any withdrawal symptoms you may experience. However seizing is not a common withdrawal symptom when stopping Lexapro. I would discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your doctor and be clear. He/she will be able to help and work with you.

Avatar f tn I was on Lexapro for a little over a year. I was only taking 5mg a day. Since I lost my health insurance I slowing got off taking the medication because I couldn't afford it. It's been about two weeks since I took my last pill and I'm feeling odd. Having strange symptoms. I'm very mean at times and the newest thing happened two days ago, I get this strange pain that goes from one temple up to the top of my head and over to my other temple. It last maybe 5 seconds.
1288270 tn?1301287612 This either results in fewer withdrawal problems, or the withdrawal happens later down the road, maybe a month later. Lexapro leaves the body quite a bit more quickly, and so you are much more subject to a bad withdrawal by quitting abruptly. None of these should be quit abruptly, but the short half life ones especially so.
Avatar f tn My doctor thought that Lexapro was not working. I went 3 weeks without taking Lexapro and it was sooo bad. So the doctor put me back on 2.5 mg and a program to taper. Here is my question. Why are I waking up every morning with anxiety, hot, racing heart, and nervous stomach? I stay hot all day. My face feels like it is on fire. My heart fills like it is racing but when I take my pulse rate it seems to be ok.
