Avatar m tn If this is a side effect of withdrawal, does anyone know how long I can expect this to last? Am I in danger of more side effects to come by quitting "cold turkey". Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I will call my Dr. on Monday, but was hoping to hear from anyone familiar with these symptoms.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had these side effects from Lex? Anyone been on Lex for awile with no side effects, only to have them develop later? Don't side effects happen in the beginning only?
Avatar f tn It takes far more than a week for withdrawal symptoms to abate but you should speak to your psychiatrist about it for follow up as regards what is happening.
Avatar f tn However, I have taken other SSRIs and SNRIs, and while the withdrawal effects can be really unsettling and uncomfortable, they do decrease in severity and eventually go away with time. I wonder whether the tremors are a side effect from starting Paxil, or a withdrawal symptom from weaning off the Cymbalta, or both?
Avatar m tn changing from SSRI to SNRI usually has its difficulties and you should always consult with your doctor to find the right dose..and no..not everything is in your head..you might actually have different reactions to different meds specially SNRI's..but dont worry..these are safe drugs and wont cause any damage to brain or body.
Avatar f tn The drug left your body the next day. All ssris other than Prozac leave the body pretty quickly. Any left is too little to do anything. That's first. Second, these drugs don't start to work for most people until 4-6 weeks, but side effects start right away. If you were having panic attacks before taking Lexapro, you shouldn't have expected it to work so soon.
404138 tn?1308941656 Lexapro was a great choice for my anxiety. I started on Zoloft but it started giving me very severe heartburn and indigestion, so I switched to Lexapro. My doctor put me on lexapro because I have a phobia of vomiting and it is always hard for me to take a new medicatin because I am afraid of the side effects. He told me that everyone who has taken it under his name has gotton no side effects other than tiredness or drymouth.
Avatar n tn If you are considering tapering of your medication you should consult your primary care physician first and it should be done under their supervision in order to monitor any symptoms you may experience. When discontinuing an SSRI, such as Lexapro (Escitalopram), there is a possibility of experiencing withdrawal type symptoms if abruptly stopped thus tapering would be appropriate.
Avatar m tn I went thru the "merry-go-round" with several anti-depressants 10 or so years ago. It was a horror getting off them, Doctor felt now Lexapro might be a good match for me considering my low-grade anxiety, panic attacks (more fear of having one) and mild depression. In a high stress job but can't really be impaired which side effects & withdrawal can do.
Avatar m tn Hi guys. I started taking Lexapro for my depression/generalized anxiety disorder about two years ago. For the first year, I took the drug every day as prescribed by the doctor. I didn't get any side effects which I thought was great. The drug wasn't of much help, though. A year ago, I decided to stop taking Lexapro on my own. I tried quitting it cold turkey but I wasn't able to follow through with it because of the withdrawal effects.
Avatar n tn I have taken 5 mg Cipralex (Lexapro, Escitalopram) for 6 days but I am stopping because I cannot deal with the side effects. Am I likely to develop any type of withdrawal symptoms after such a short period of time on the medication? I experienced withdrawal symptoms when weaning off Paxil three years ago.
Avatar f tn s thru the years (at different times for each), and some were a breeze to start, others had some pretty awful side effects. The good news is...those side effects started improving for me usually by the 2nd week, and once they started getting better, they went away pretty quickly. Hang in there...keep the line of communication open with your doc and of course, we're here for you too!
Avatar n tn The withdrawal symptoms subside for me in about 2-3 weeks although this can vary from person to person. I chose to stop taking the 10 mg cold turkey because I get just as bad withdrawal effects each time we tapered the dose down gradually so I said what the hell is the point? I feel the same just stopping at 10mg than I did when tapering down from 20mg. But in the end, don't worry. Give it some time and you will feel "normal" again.
Avatar n tn He is very strong and just wants to go forward and not go through this again ( his doctor said the remedy was to get back on the drug) these are the Docs that said he could stop the med all at once with out any side effects. The reason he was put on lexapro was for anxiousness he had alot of major things going on at one time including surgery and he has a clotting disorder and has to be very careful be cause he takes coumadin and has for a long time.
Avatar f tn Your doctor doesn't understand these meds very well, which is common when you don't see a caring experienced psychiatrist. As stated above, wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepressant, and two weeks is too short a time for weaning off, and taking another drug while you're weaning off just gives you two sources of side effects. What were the Lexapro side effects you were trying to avoid?
928827 tn?1244736114 5 for a week and then totally off of it after that. my question is what kind of side effects can i see with the lexapro now and in the future. what kind of sucess has people seen with it compared to Effexor. is 20mg a little much for starting on Lexapro. and can i take advil with it. is there going to be any reaction with lexapro while i'm weening off the effexor. I'm kind of off gaurd with this drug. any information would help.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have any ideas that could help ease these side effects or withdrawal? I typically do not do these blog type things- but I figure support of people that know what it's like would be great! In my teens I was on Prozac a couple years & the withdrawal from that was a piece of cake compared to this. Just scared about this situation & would like some positive input- Thanks so much!
Avatar n tn Two possibilities. Once is that, if you were anxious before taking Lexapro and you now have the same problem having stopped it, then it's just back. These meds don't cure depression or anxiety or treat their causes; they just tamp down symptoms. If you haven't solved the underlying problem, it's not only still there, but can be worse because your brain is now used to working with a drug and needs time to relearn how to function without one.
Avatar f tn I need advice. And also, with me being on Lexapro for such a short time will my withdrawal symptoms be as bad? Did anyone successfully come off Lexapro? Thanks in advance!
Avatar f tn t have any withdrawal symptoms. I was just so relieved to be rid of the side effects. A headache would have been more preferable. Take some Tylenol or other pain reliever to get rid of the headache - I'm sure you'll be fine.
Avatar f tn You say you were on Lexapro for a long time? Is that right? How did you stop taking it, abruptly or a slow taper taking as long as you needed to (here's hoping Lexapro has a liquid, because one of the hard things about only needing such a low dose is it's hard to break pills to do a taper off). I'm asking because some of the effects you're having sound more like withdrawal effects than the usual start-up effects of Prozac.
