Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro withdrawal symptoms dizziness

lexapro

Avatar n tn Now, after the 4th week, and a lot of improvement, I am having diarrhea and headache and flu like symptoms. Could these symptoms be related to withdrawal at this later date? How long does withdrawal take? When should I expect to feel total relief?
Avatar f tn Withdrawal from Lexapro usually occurs when patients stop the medication suddenly. If your plan is to stop lexapro, your doctor will wean you off of it slowly so that you can minimize any withdrawal symptoms you may experience. However seizing is not a common withdrawal symptom when stopping Lexapro. I would discuss any concerns or questions you may have with your doctor and be clear. He/she will be able to help and work with you.
Avatar f tn That seems very fast after being on SSRIs for 10 years. I also get many withdrawal symptoms when I come off of an SSRI. I noticed them when I was tapering off, however, I went really slow which minimized them in my opinion. I was also probably worried as well which probably added to my worries and symptoms. It took a good month or so for me to start feeling as if I was not experiencing any withdrawals after I stopped my taper. Keep us posted!
777975 tn?1236334919 You can continue with the wellbutrin and that should take care your withdrawal symptoms. If you just continue as you are or you may have the withdrawal symptoms for another week or 10 days.
Avatar n tn When discontinuing an SSRI, such as Lexapro (Escitalopram), there is a possibility of experiencing withdrawal type symptoms if abruptly stopped thus tapering would be appropriate. Symptoms of withdrawal include irritability, dizziness, sensory disturbances, headache, insomnia, confusion, anxiety, and in severe cases seizures. If you follow a tapering schedule and these symptoms still occur, resuming your previous dose with a more gradual taper should be considered.
Avatar n tn I've been withdrawing from Lexapro as well, at least I think that is what it is. I was on 10mg every day for a year or so, then went down to five for a couple months, then to 2.5 every day for about 3 weeks, stopped that, then started having symptoms of dizziness, headaches, "brain zaps", irritability, difficulty concentrating, sensitivity to noise and light. I started taking 2.5mg again, every other day for about two weeks. I stopped taking it 3 days ago, severe symptoms again.
Avatar m tn Has anyone experienced any of these when stopping Lexapro? I am trying to decipher if these symptoms are just anxiety or if it is due to the withdrawl from the Lexapro. If anyone has any advice please let me know.
Avatar f tn I am taking Prozac, and I have read some articles saying that some doctors prescribe prozac for a month to help decrease the withdrawal symptoms from Lexapro, and then get off the prozac. I guess the Prozac doesn't seem to have such bad withdrawal effects. When I quit Lexapro cold turkey.. all I had were brain zaps and dizziness. When I quit the Prozac, i had occasional brainzaps, but that is all.
246464 tn?1249452147 pre-lexapro) state. I would keep an eye on it though because the dizziness is worrysome in my eyes if it gets any worse because I am almost sure that a decrease of 5mg wouldnt cause it. I went from 20 mgs to 0 mgs overnight. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know of natural supplements to help with withdrawal symptoms, or any experience in withdrawing succesfully without too many side effects?
Avatar m tn I have a hard time believing this because these symptoms feel like little brain zaps that you get from lexapro withdrawal. I recently went down to 5 mg and the symptoms seemed to worsen. However, going up to 20mg made me feel weird. Currently I am transitioning to Cymbalta and I am off lexapro. It has only been a few days but the brain zaps are terrible! Can anyone please help me figure out what is going on, and how long I might experience these horrible symptoms!?
Avatar f tn I was on lexapro for 3 years-10mg. No, I am not seeing a psychiatrist. My taper was 2 weeks at 2.5 mg and then 2 weeks every other day. My symptoms are waking up from a sound sleep in the mornings and during a nap with severe anxiety and racing heart and hot. My legs are week and I am very tired. I have nausea in the mornings. Right now my chest if so tight feeling. Are these symptoms of withdrawal. I am trying hard not to get back on meds.
Avatar f tn t said what your symptoms are -- everything you mentioned seems to have started before you stopped the Lexapro. Second, the Lexapro is still an option -- your old psychiatrist has an ethical obligation not to put you into cold turkey withdrawal, and if you contact him or her you should be able to get a refill to tide you over. A little threatening about malpractice if you get any static should do the trick.
Avatar m tn s near the time of your next dose, it could be the drug is giving you withdrawal symptoms before you take your next dose. This happens to some people, as most of these drugs only stay in the system a matter of hours.
358304 tn?1409709492 It could possibly be withdrawal symptoms. I've been taking Xanax for over 2 years and I the only way I can stop is to go into rehab because of the severe withdrawal symptoms I get, throwing up, dizziness, headaches, body aches, insomnia, convulsions etc. I had a lot of symptoms each time I went through withdrawals so you could possibly be experiencing them since you were on klonopin for so long and then just switched to ativan but the question is, which one could you be withdrawing from?
Avatar m tn Yes that is the kind of symptoms and I would expect from the abrupt withdrawal of this medication. There are usually flu-like symptoms and sweating is one of them so don't be surprised if you have the others also. It is usually unwise to stop these medications abruptly but you can get away with it with this medication but will not get away with it if you try to stop Lexapro abruptly.
Avatar f tn I have been taking lexapro for 3 years. I decided to get off of lexapro; it was not working. Plus, I do not want to keep depending on it. I want to see what I can do on my own. I was taking 10 mg and cut it in half and took 5 mg for one week. I have not had any for one week. I am experiencing stomach problems (especially in my morning), heartburn, indigestion, and a strange (heat) sensation in my chest area. Is this normal? What can I do to help? How long will this last?
Avatar f tn usually the prozac will cover the withdrawal from lexapro, but apparently not in your case. the most important fact is that you are getting better which means it will keep getting better, there is no relapse, so you will just have to stick it out.
Avatar n tn Lexapro can be one of the more difficult SSRI meds when it comes to withdrawl. Not sure why your doc said that you shouldn't be having withdrawl symptoms after only two weeks off Lex. Even with a Very slow taper off method, you can expect to have withdrawl symptoms for at least 6 to 8 weeks after complete discontinuation. Sometimes even longer depending on the person. Yes, they can be nasty.

358304 tn?1409709492 27 male. Anxiety sufferer. I was on Lexapro 10mg and Klonopin .5mg for about 2months. Took them both ONCE per day right before bed. I then weaned off with Dr's permission after 2 months. And now he just gave me Ativan .5mg when needed. I believe I have properly weaned myself off of the Lexapro and Klonopin. I weaned off both medications within 2-3 weeks. I cut the Lexapro in half taking 5mg for about a week, then .25mg, then smaller and smaller. Same with Klonopin, .5mg then to .25mg to .
1408467 tn?1281398343 s direction) the non specific flu like withdrawal symptoms (as they are called) lasted about a month if the titration was done at a faster rate but they always subsided in that time frame. You could ask your doctor if they would be true for you as well. However whatever symptoms they are treating will return as well so you it would be worthwhile to ask them what medication they intend to change you to. There are many different anti-depressents and several classes so there are other options.
Avatar n tn ve read has been to go back on the med at the dose you were on before you experienced the withdrawal or discontinuation symptoms. And then taper more slowly. And sometimes even use klonopin as cover for the last week. People have mentioned zero or low fee places you can go to for medical advice. Another member recently asked about accessing free medication. You could always check out the doctor's response to that. (It had the word 'free' in the title).
Avatar n tn com/ It is tiny amount of natural lithium that is safe and may be my best friend as I work toward full lexapro withdrawal. I take one pill with the mealtonin at night to try to curb the crazy melatonin dreams, and one during the day if I feel too anxious. Great find.
404138 tn?1308941656 Lexapro was a great choice for my anxiety. I started on Zoloft but it started giving me very severe heartburn and indigestion, so I switched to Lexapro. My doctor put me on lexapro because I have a phobia of vomiting and it is always hard for me to take a new medicatin because I am afraid of the side effects. He told me that everyone who has taken it under his name has gotton no side effects other than tiredness or drymouth.
