lexapro

Avatar n tn I've read that buspar is a better alternative to xanax or valium for the treatment of anxiety. Can anyone share their experiences of using buspar and comment on its side effects? Does it cause weight gain? Is it addictive? Can it be used with alcohol? Does Xanax cause weight gain?
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist is weening me off the Lexapro and is giving me Topamax which should induce weight-loss and also lessen the side effects of going off the Lexapro. Unfortunately, there is a lot of side effects of Topomax as well but weight gain is not one of them and need to loose the weight now !!!!
Avatar m tn Benzos, have a Moderate to Moderate drug to drug interaction, it is NOT deadly unless you are elderly, or have certain heart conditions, in those cases you would need to be monitored by a doctor. I'm not saying that those things aren't playing with fire, russian roulette, etc, but your doctor wasn't trying to kill you, with that combo. at least. I successfully got clean from a bad oxy contin/painkiller addiction, using Subxone and Xanax.
Avatar f tn I say this because when starting an SSRI like Zoloft, it can actually increase your anxiety, but I also suspect as it was with me, that when we are anxious we start to worry about the side effects of the medication and oversensitize ourselves to our symptoms; don't get me wrong, they are there and both times that I started Sertraline, it put me more on edge when I started it, but after a couple of weeks, most of the side effects 'wore off.' Continue to express your concerns with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Side Effects of Abilify The following are the risks and potential side effects of Abilify therapy. However, this list is not complete. Increased chance of death in elderly persons. Elderly patients treated with atypical antipsychotics, such as Abilify, for dementia had a higher chance for death than patients who did not take the medicine. Abilify is not approved for dementia. A life-threatening nervous system problem called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS).
Avatar f tn old and the veins of elderly person. There is some plague in the veins on one side of the brain and older looking blood vessels on the other side of my brain for the age of 50. No determination on why nor where these (mini strokes) are originating from. Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. is my next stop for hope of finding out where these T.I.A.'s (mini strokes) are coming from and what can be done if anything to stop them.
Avatar m tn Hallucinations can occur, but they're not a common side effect. How old is your Dad? Elderly people would be more at risk for hallucinations and other more severe side effects. Does he take any other medications? Does he drink? His doctor absolutely needs to be made aware ASAP.

389797 tn?1200693362 I have not left the house except to go to a doctor or test in 6 weeks, and my husband has driven me as I feel too weak. I have chronic diarrhea with severe gas after eating. I and am afraid to eat anything that will cause distress and have lost 40 pounds in 4 months (20% of body weight). Constant nagging abdominal pain ULQ whether I eat or don't, I also have anxiety, sweats (no fever), tremors, and lower back pain. Symptoms were occasional at first but are now almost daily.
3060903 tn?1398568723 Am I willing to put up with unpleasant side effects in return for anxiety relief? What non-drug treatments for anxiety might help? Do I have the time and am I willing to pursue non-drug treatments such as cognitive-behavioral therapy? What self-help strategies might help me get my anxiety under control? If I decide to take anxiety medication, should I pursue other therapy as well? Questions to ask your doctor How will the medication help my anxiety? What are the drug’s common side effects?
Avatar f tn I hope you were able to get your mother-in-law to the doctor to get her properly evaluated for these troubling symptoms? Hysterics are not normal in the elderly & while depression is common, treatment is important. It looks possible that Estopam may be the same thing as Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) from my research online? If so, that could be affecting her mood and behavior in a negative way rather than helping.
Avatar f tn But everyone does need to know when a drug is doing something because of side effects so they can also know that it also has effects they might or might not find attractive.
Avatar n tn Though more studies are needed, it is wise for anyone with a history of precancerous or cancerous skin lesions -- such as squamous cell, basal cell skin cancer, or melanoma -- to refrain from taking this herb. Side Effects Side effects are rare but may include skin allergy and burning sensations (with external use), headache, stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, and extreme drowsiness. These side effects tend to occur with high doses of gotu kola.
301132 tn?1201652050 Lott, he is new in town and has practiced in Illinois and Vegas. He wants to put me on lexapro, because I stopped taking my luvox.... but the side effects are the same with the lexapro as with the luvox... so why start a new medication???? Right??? Well, I was themost worried about the ativan because it can "slow everything down" Like I said in the previous posts, I was on 3 mg a day and now I am down to 1. I just dont feel that I should take such a high dose...
Avatar n tn He requested Nortriptyline from his current psychiatrist who refused to give it to him stating some side effects in elderly individuals and also told him it usually takes 4-6 weeks for an antidepressant to take effect. I personally dont agree with this and think he should change psychiatrists because it seems illogical to not place him on a medication he was previously seen to be very responsive to.
941118 tn?1312285526 My shrink is medically solid and aware of the potential effects these drugs can have on the heart, so he prescribes with my condition in mind. While cardiac effects are listed as possible for many of the SSRIs (and other mood-altering drugs), I haven't had any. In fact, I can tell you that this approach has been pretty much the magic bullet for me.
200220 tn?1361955154 You would still have to take an anxiety med with it wouldn't you. What are you taking if you are and what side effects do they have. I have had so many people tell me about their side effects that that discourages me also. The L-5HTP and SAMe has no side effects. I am slowly increasing the SAMe. I think I can take it up to 600 mg. I am now at 400 mg. I am seeing the holistic doctor on Monday. He says that if this doesn't work he can't help me with the depression.

242516 tn?1368227505 It's important that patients on these medicines don't stop taking their medicines because serious side effects can occur, such as worsening of the depressive symptoms that they initially took them for, including thoughts of suicide for some patients. This is just one study that will be further examined. The great thing is that it's been published in the Public Library of Science online journal.
Avatar f tn All of these meds can come with possible side effects. But, they can go away in a few days to a few weeks. I think your Dr is wanting you to take an antidepressant to help with not only your anxiety but your depression too. It might be a good idea to join a support group. One that deals with being a caregiver. It is an extremely hard thing to do. You can ask your fathers Dr, look online, call your local hospitals, churches, check your local newspaper and your phone book.
544292 tn?1268886268 Hi Friends! Welcome all Tramadol warriors. We're all very glad to see you. Please come in and share.
Avatar n tn Prozac is harming you and wont stop harming you even if side effects wear off .Your doctor doesnt need to worry about it he/she gets their commission from eli lilly for giving it to you!
Avatar n tn for the anxiety he has been responding well to zoloft with miminmal side effects. seems to be working, he's now doing things he wouldn't ordinary do without anxiety. actually went to a sleep over at his cousins house and stayed usually around 11 i have to go get him and went to a birthday party today with no fear, usually a stressful event. now the big test comes monday trying to put him back in the school setting.
Avatar n tn First of all, she has to be gotten off all medications. Being in a strange area can be very frightening to the elderly. Then, square two is to arrange for a family member to be with her constantly holding her hand for the next two weeks. Take your vacations. Rotate shifts. Don't give a darn about your jobs. The next time I hear about a "well reknowned physician" I am going to choke. She needs an endochrine screen from an endochronologist.
Avatar n tn Well your story sounds all too familiar. I would probably advise getting treatment for anxiety disorder and perhaps find a med that can ease your mind a little and allow you to live while managing both your anxiety and life in general. Its not easy but I think you will find its not hard to be anxious when dealing with heart related issues. I wish I could tell you do this or that but as my own cardiologist put it ..."You need to find your own spirituality and put yourself at some ease ...
544292 tn?1268886268 Hi Tramadol Warriors, Welcome to Part 13! We're so happy to see you! Come on in and get comfy.
Avatar n tn As much as I want to lose weight, the list of side effects for Topomax scares me. My current med, Effexor/Lithium has side effects such as weight gain, constipation, tremor, etc. While I hate being fat, blurry vision ans brain fog don't appeal to me either. Of course there are also the risks of diabetes and heart disease from being overweight too. I'm having a very hard time deciding about this. Any advice is welcome.
544292 tn?1268886268 I got an email this morning from my Mother who says she's coming here in September? I can't even think that far in advance. I'm thinking stuff like, "I have to brush my hair and take a shower." It seems like an insurmountable prospect! I have such respect for anyone who has come off Tramadol and .... I don't know ... maintained a life? Mud mud mud everywhere. Walking thru mud. I just took vitamins and a big cup of Lecithin granules which are supposed to decrease anxiety.
376186 tn?1219283105 My cardiologist knew that I was under severe stress with a sister who was dying of breast cancer and also coping with elderly parents...so he gave me an RX for xanax (.5 mg but I broke them in half) to have on hand IF needed. My sister died in Dec and my Dad died, prob of a broken heart in March. I had not taken any of the anti anxiety meds until the day of my sister's funeral and it was like 'magic'...I have never taken anything like that and it was amazing.
