Avatar f tn pdf I have never had any problems with iron metabolism and I have never avoided any iron containing foods. I eat a lot of spinach as well as red meat and other iron containing foods. However, if I was cirrhotic or if lab tests indicated that I had a problem with iron metabolism, then I would alter my diet accordingly.
Avatar n tn I get a super foods mix of greens from costco, and more so lately just frozen spinach, banana and water as the base and occasionally add in pineapple, ginger, mango, etc. Cucumber goes undetected in there as well. My 4 year old eats them too. But i figure just in one smoothie there's 5 or more servings Bc the greens are so condensed. What else are you thinking? I try to avoid dairy and I think she simpler it is to make the more likely I'll have it. How do you make them?

Avatar f tn Oxalates are compounds derived from oxalic acid and found in foods such as spinach, kale, beets, nuts, chocolate, tea, wheat bran, rhubarb, strawberries and herbs such as oregano, basil, and parsley. The presence of oxalates in spinach explains why the iron in spinach is not absorbed. In fact, it is reported that the iron from spinach that does get absorbed is probably from the minute particles of sand or dirt clinging to the plant rather than the iron contained in the plant.

I'm in the process right now of finding out what my "trigger" foods are. It really ***** because I LOVE broccoli, spinach...
Avatar f tn Hi all, So I'm currently HYPERthyroid. I'm 22, and I've had hyperthyroidism since I was about 16 (my grandmother and my cousin both have HYPOthyroidism). I plan on getting iodine treatment soon, probably in March on my spring break. Obviously I plan on discussing all of this with my doctor as well, but I just wanted a heads-up about what to expect. I've read that once I'm hypothyroid (and on Synthroid), I'll need to avoid certain foods.
