172023 tn?1334672284 Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-wa), is a wheat and gluten free grain (ok, technically a seed, but is so grainlike we are including in the grain group) from the Andes Mountains of South America. Quinoa was one of the three staple foods of the Inca civilization. The other two were corn and potatoes. Quinoa was known then, as it still is today, as the Mother Grain. Quinoa is a complete protein.
Avatar m tn You can add a sweetener to it or just add the quinoa to salads, soups, regular rice, and yogurt, etc to have the benefit of quinoa plus it will not be bland. Quinoa is a 'grain' consisting of 8 essential amino acids (protein) which is the same as milk, plus it is gluten free (wheat -free). It is a great protein source for people who do not eat meat and it can be eaten in different methods as I stated above.
Avatar m tn My worst trigger food has always been spaghetti, so I purchased gluten-free (brown rice/white rice/quinoa) spaghetti and ate it tonight. I have not had diarhea but I am having gas and bloating. What could be the issue? I had meat sauce. I enjoy tomatoes and had tacos with tomatoes last night (corn tortilla) with no issues. I'm just at a loss. I can also eat some hamburgers most often without issues.

Avatar f tn I have a lot of food sensitivities myself and have found that most processed and packaged foods are full of sulfites. I have found that I can eat a certain amount of some foods if they aren't processed and packaged foods. I have gone back to cooking and eating everything from scratch, because it helps to simplify things. I got sick and tired of reading labels. Not all foods have declared sulfites either, which is another problem.

The whole foods concept is based on the idea of eating foods as close to how you get them from nature as possible without processing them. Going gluten free has helped several of my conditions, including pre-diabetes. I went gluten free for other health reasons and had many benefits. I would have worse female problems than I do if I hadn't gone gluten free.
Avatar f tn it has to proccess everything you eat, drink, breathe, and absorbed through the skin. No alcohol and just eat healthy, as much organic as possible, whole/raw foods, whole grains, lots of fruit and veggies, green/white tea, as little processed food as possible. Try to use unscented stuff, filtered water, natural cleaning products. Discuss any supplements with your Dr for sure, but B complex with higher B12 and vitamin D3 are good starters.

Avatar n tn Another big food intolerance to consider is gluten intolerance. I think it is wise to test your son for Celiac. If it comes back negative, this is good news. But, a person can still be gluten intolerant without having Celiac. The treatment for it is the same either way, which is to avoid gluten and dairy, particularly cow's milk. I can't tolerate any kind of lactose, cow or goat. Your son seems to be displaying the classic symptoms of Celiac.

140029 tn?1393298142 Try this: Cook some brown rice, whichever kind you like. You can add flaxseed oil and a touch of sea salt and/or olive oil. Go easy on the oil, so you don't upset your stomach. You do need some healthy fat in the diet, and this is a good way to get a little bit with your first meal of the day. I use a sea salt called Real Salt. You can buy it in bulk at a health food or natural food store. Or, some places sell the same salt in various packages.
1812479 tn?1316868350 Hi quinoa (said Kee-wah) is a different grain altogether. Try the corn and rice pasta. I just use vermicelli, or rice pasta and it's pretty good, but different texture to wheat pasta. I use Bob's Red Mill pancake mix too, it is really good and the texture is pretty close to that of wheat pancakes.
175861 tn?1428182413 When you say no grains, do you mean just grains and grain-like foods that contain gluten, or no grains at all? If no grains at all, that means you've eliminated complex carbs, which supply a lot of our energy. Every civilization has eaten grains or grain-like fruits such as quinoa and buckwheat as their staple food for eons, so that could explain it.
Avatar m tn Cancer Diets are always low carb...I would suggest using the "Honest Kitchen" foods....These are dehydrated whole foods.....Some of their choices DO have grains, but they are whole grains like Oats, Rye, or Quinoa...These are still considered low carb.....There's a difference here as opposed to typical dog foods that are full of cheap grains such as corn, wheat & soy making up the bulk of the product.....Actually, there is no comparison!
Avatar n tn If pregnancy is out of the question, what adhyaru said is a partial answer. You might also want to check into food sensitivities. It sounds strange, but that is what does it for me: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=faq&dbid=30 It matters greatly what you choose to eat first thing in the morning with food sensitivities. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, but when I do, I find that quinoa makes a great gentle food for breakfast.
Avatar n tn The good news is that following a gluten-free diet can greatly improve and may even completely resolve symptoms, heal existing intestinal damage and prevent further problems. You can go gluten-free by avoiding all foods containing wheat, oats, barley and rye. Also read labels carefully - gluten can turn up in cold cuts, soups, candies and soy sauce.
