Just wondering about the DUO test. Not sure where to get it done here in Ottawa, Canada. Just wondering if anyone might know where I could get the DUO test done? I know 12-13 weeks is conclusive but I am hoping to get a test done at just over 4 weeks. I am still going to do the 12-13 week test for sure but the anxiety and waiting is really affecting me.

I grew up in Northern Ontario in small town named Kapuskasing and now i live in Ottawa. Which pain clinic did you get referred to? Just curious to see if i know that clinic. I am a chronic pain patient so I know some of the place here in this city. Is the hospital good in Elliot Lake, i know that sometimes small hospitals don't have means to offer proper care for some things.
There is currently no data whatsoever, showing benefit of plavix in stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. The two current standards of care are aspirin and coumadin...with the later being undoubtably more effective in patients that can tolerae it. Alot of people have peripheral neuropathy and do perfectly well without falls. I usually prefer coumadin unless there is a definite risk. Any regimen that would attempt to use plavix, should at least include aspirin sine it is proven.

In February 2016, I developed a chronic cough, and I went to a local walk-in clinic and the doctor made a diagnosis within seconds to be bronchitis and prescribed me antibiotics. After 10 days treatments, the cough remained, the same doctor diagnosed me with pneumonia and put me on more antibiotics for 14 days.
In mid March, I was able to breathe well for a brief one week window, then the chronic cough came back.
Of course there is a difference in preparation and lowering your risks to help prevent stroke or heart attack. Prevention is always the best approach, as much as possible that is.

I would say in general terms that loss of peripheral vision be it from glaucoma, stroke, retinal disease like retinitis pigmentosa or other causes is usually not something that can be rehabilitated. There are some new computer programs with vision simulators that try to help patients try to rehabilitate the use of lost peripheral vision mainly from stroke and there has be at least some encouraging, though limited, results with that.
Treatment of stroke depends on whether the stroke is ischemic or hemorrhagic and on the underlying cause of the condition. The long-term goals of treatment include rehabilitation and prevention of additional strokes. In your uncle’s case it could be ischaemic or hemorrhagic stroke due to high BP. If it is a ischaemic infarct, anti platelet drugs, anti coagulants and thrombolytics are employed in the treatment. If it is hemorrhagic infarct the hematoma needs to be evacuated with surgery.

Her cardiologist said the type of heart disease she had would not cause a stroke which is what that that sounded like. She had, and still has trouble with words dropping out of sentences when she reads ect. Three years later (about the age of 13) we saw a neurologist who confirmed she had had a stroke in the occipital area of the brain. Turned out that her heart disease was not the culprit; she had a bleeding coagulopathy which caused the stroke.

If he was falling frequently, sometimes the risk of staying on these meds (bleeding with fall that could lead to death) outweighs the benefit (stroke prevention which is a few percent per year), which is something his physician needs to determine. Given his age, and history of blood in stool and falls, it is reasonable to keep him on warfarin (coumadin), especially due to the evidence in people over 75 on Pradaxa, and the difficulty of reversal with Xarelto given his falls history.
