Strattera for depression and anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Strattera for depression and anxiety

strattera

Avatar n tn The Adderal XR was effective at combating my ADHD symptoms but made my anxiety worse, so my doctor prescribed Strattera. I found the Strattera to be not nearly as effective as Adderal XR, so without consulting my doctor, I began taking both medications together. This is working extraordinarily well. The Strattera seems to ease my anxiety while slightly reducing ADHD symptoms and the Adderal XR nearly eliminates the remaining ADHD symptoms.
Avatar n tn hey my diagnoses is bipolar depression i take 150 zoloft,50naltrexone,60mg inderol,trileptal 900,stelazine 6mg,cogentin 0.
Avatar m tn I've been prescribed adderall for the past 4 years, I currently take 75mg per day. A couple months ago my Dr. started me on strattera in conjunction with my adderall. I have not noticed any improvement in my ability to concentrate or remain organized since starting the strattera, however my anxiety is gone and I am finally happy. A couple weeks ago my Dr. left and I was given a "temp" to take her place.
Avatar n tn the stelazine and cogentin is normally used for psychotic folks can really bean one out...and strattera has a seped like effect on chemically dependent ppl......would be nice if u saw a doctor who was savvy to workable meds with folks who are both chemically dependent with anxiety disorders!

702147 tn?1289832370 Yes, strattera can cause problems. The other thing is that depression and anxiety are very common co-disorders of AD/HD. Many times its due to the AD/HD and how it affects them in school and among friends. Strattera is not as effective as the normal stim meds. It may well be that she is suffering in school and the pressure is beginning to get to her. It might be time to consider a milder stim med like Ritalin - as long as her heart/lung docs agree. Please do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
Avatar m tn (1) What is your opinion on Strattera for ADHD and how much should a 90 pound child take (2) If we continue with a stimulant, can the tics get worse and is the fact that she has this tic a sign that the stimulant is causing something negative to her body (3) Would you recommend that we change to Strattera. Thank you for your help.
628190 tn?1269018507 Both the Strattera and the Lexapro can be used as anti-depressants and both can cause sedation. The treatment, if it is going to work for ADHD or depression should work within 3 weeks. I would ask your psychiatrist if you can be tried on a different medicine regimen as this one is not only not helping you, it is making you feel worse. 5553333 tn?1369941048 Strattera would be the absolute worst possible choice to treat tremors/shaking! Of course it would have made you feel worse! It's a stimulant ("upper") used primarily to treat ADD/ADHD. Were you put on that for the shaking? Do you have an ADD/ADHD diagnosis? I would recommend findind a new doctor, who can look at the situation from a fresh perspective, and offer other options. Don't write off medications in general based on just ONE...
Avatar f tn I have adhd/anxiety/ibs-d. I was on librax for two years and did not know it had librium. My fault for not researching the medicine. After I realize that I am developing a tolerance I stop taking it and try something else. My GP thinks my ibs is because of my adhd\anxiety but I haven't been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up.
Avatar f tn She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?
Avatar f tn According to the web, Strattera carries with it a "black box warning" - the most serious warning a prescription med can carry and still be on the market - that strattera has been linked to suicidal thoughts in children. I agree with Margy - I would call that doing terribly on strattera. I'm not quite sure what behaviors strattera has helped with, but a child with new suicide thoughts are about the worst thing I can think of.
Avatar f tn Nobody really knows long-term effects there are (if any) with antidepressants. However, Prozac is the oldest SSRI out there, and people have been on it 20+ years, with no serious long-term effects reported yet. In generally, the SSRI antidepressants appear to be very safe. Though their long-term effects have not been adequately studied. Being on Prozac for 2-3 years should have no lasting detrimental effects. I was on Prozac for 3 years, and I'm now on Lexapro for 2 years.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you're on too high of a dose for one. The second problem is that it's eating through your system too fast. I have heard other people talk about a lull in the afternoon from Vyvanse. I was on it for quite awhile. If you are having anxiety, it's typically when the stimulant is LEAVING your system when you're ADHD. The key to treatment with stimulants is to have something to help you come down after getting a good 12-16 hours of coverage.
889551 tn?1416184483 Hi! I was diagnosed with ADD recently and I'm waiting to get back in to see my psychiatrist. My last office visit we spoke about the possible medications I could choose from if I completed ADD testing with another Psych. He mentioned Strattera (but he said he didn't feel that it worked), Adderall, and Ritalin. I'm currently on abilify and wellbutrin for depression and these meds, along with adderall and ritalin lower the seizure threshold.
7420684 tn?1391039029 Depression and anxiety are very common co-disorders of AD/HD - especially if it is untreated. I am not surprised that V helped your social anxiety. Don't mix Paxil or Prozac with AMP meds (stim meds like Vyvannse) as they both interact significantly with the medication by plugging the 2D6 pipeline. This will lead to problems down the line. Don't know if you were on Prozac when trying the V, but that would lead to problems.
Avatar f tn My 8 year old grandson has been on strattera and prozac for a year now. About a month ago he starting acting out in very strange ways. He pooped on the floor in the school bathroom and blamed it on someone else, then urinated in the school bathroom and swears in wasn't him. He went into his grandfathers barn and threw plastic bins of collectibles all over and broke things, then took mail out of neighbors mailboxes and threw it in the water in the ditch.
Avatar m tn Not fully true, i failed this morning for amphetamines after starting strattera a week ago and having clean drug tests before today.. After doing some digging i found theses http://www.hindawi.com/journals/crips/2013/381261/ http://www.ehealthme.
Avatar n tn Anyway my Doc gave me Strattera and the 3rd day on it I felt dizzy and confused, I felt over anxious and felt like I was loosing my mind. I had been on dexadrine years ago for depression after a hysterectomy at age 27 and I told him that my life came together on it but he gave me Strattera. I told him I really wasn't feeling the Strattera and could i please get enough adderal until the Strattera kicked in. He originally had boo hooed any narcotic adhd meds.
Avatar n tn I am a 46 yr. old female and realized 8 yrs. ago that I was a textbook case of an adult female with adhd. At my husband's urging, I went to the doctor for meds. He prescribed strattera and I didn't think it did anything for it but make me thirsty. I went to another doctor and asked for adderall (since the first doctor would not prescribe anything else but strattera). It works a lot better. I take the minimal dose and find it works better than strattera.
396332 tn?1320003615 Listen to your doctor, he knows what is best for you and your needs. Medication is an individual thing for all of us, and this is why it is best to discuss these issues with your doctor. Take care!
Avatar m tn If it is working for you I guess it really doesn't matter what causes your lack of focus. Strattera is for ADD and has some of the same components as SSRI's or SNRI's so Lexapro would probably help on both fronts.
Avatar f tn My step-daughter is on Strattera, Intuniv, and Zoloft. I have heard many things and was wondering if it was normal for her to be on all three?
Avatar f tn A combined analysis of 12 studies of Strattera showed that in children and teens this risk was 0.4% for those taking Strattera compared to none for those taking a sugar pill. A similar analysis in adults treated with Strattera did not reveal an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. Call your doctor right away if your child has thoughts of suicide or sudden changes in mood or behavior, especially at the beginning of treatment or after a change in dose.
990354 tn?1307132886 I have been on both strattera and adderall. Adderall is very addicting to this (me) addict. The strattera didnt give the buzz adderall did. ALSO many people have reported adderall increased depression. I hope this helps. Congrats on getting off the opiates. YOUR AWESOME !!
Avatar f tn My doctor has me on welubturon 150mg, strattera 25mg and klonopin 1mg. The klonopin for sleep. I love the way the other two make me feel throughout the day. Focused, happy. However, I work for a gym and my physical abilities are very important as they are my job. Ever since I've started the strattera, I'm only able to give about 60% and I still feel flu'ish. Weak, sick, cold sweats. That's not me. They want me to try this for three weeks.
