I have always had somewhat severe anxiety, including severe social anxiety. I was also diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago and was prescribed Adderal XR. The Adderal XR was effective at combating my ADHD symptoms but made my anxiety worse, so my doctor prescribed Strattera. I found the Strattera to be not nearly as effective as Adderal XR, so without consulting my doctor, I began taking both medications together. This is working extraordinarily well.
Its as if the stimulant helps him think before he speaks. Unfortunately , none of the stimulants last longer than a few hours for him and they cause him anxiety. My hope is he will socially mature in time ( will always have a problem, of course) and we will find the "right" stimulant that wont cause so much anxiety and tics . What do you think?

I have been through therapy for some time. I always had a diagnosis of social anxiety but I am definitely a combination of both. I am seeing a psychiatrist for meds only. We talk but minimally. I have been on Strattera 60mg and Lexapro forever.
When I see socially anyone, old, young, men or women, my brain zeros in on what makes me the most uncomfortable, which is breasts, crotches legs.....
Started Prevacid and also Strattera for ADD. We were able to wean off of the Prevacid and just stick to Strattera, as our peds thinks the Strattera helps him with the anxiety related to the GERD, and therefore he had no complaints of symptoms of GERD. In March we went off of the Strattera, and within 4 weeks the symptoms of GERD re-appeared ( Not eating, coughing, feeling like something is caught in his throat.) We went back on Strattera and Prevacid.
I first tried Paxil (high school) and that worked pretty good for the social anxiety. I was taken off of Paxil after 1-2yrs. 2-3 years later I started voicing my problems again with anxiety and I was put on Zoloft (college). After several months, Zoloft was still not working and was stopped. My doctor suggested going back on Paxil (post-college). So I started Paxil again, however, the Paxil had no effect this time around (I guess I used my one and only "get out of jail free" card!!).
That's great! It's amazing when you find the best mix of medications. Why did they add a medication on if I may ask?
Yesterday, I noticed that you suggested Strattera to another mom for tics. Our doctor told us also to change to Strattera.
I have adhd/anxiety/ibs-d. I was on librax for two years and did not know it had librium. My fault for not researching the medicine. After I realize that I am developing a tolerance I stop taking it and try something else. My GP thinks my ibs is because of my adhd\anxiety but I haven't been on medicine for it since college. Starts out with my former medicine, strattera, but when I would take it I felt my heart was out of control and my blood pressure went up.

40mg once a day for the antacid. Anxiety wise, I've only taken random classes at community college because I haven't been confident in my ability to actually complete a degree. I want to change all of this and work my way to a university. I get anxious when I think about how behind I am compared to my friends, that I don't know what I want to do degree/career wise, and other things mostly related to self-confidence.
I had to stop taking the strattera because it gave me the hot flashes.I stopped Strattera in Feb of 07. In November of 2008, I tapered off Prozac. I was ok for about 9 months. Then, in August of 09, I started having anxiety issues.. Not really mental anxiety, but physical anxiety.. My insides felt like they were running on overdrive, kind of like an engine at high idle. So in October of 08, I went back on Prozac (10mg) About 1 week into treatment, I started having chest pain..
is that abilify is a good suplement to another drug, not necessarily good to be the primary drug. for instance my dr. added abilify to my effexor and strattera for the cognitive, energizing and 'easier to deal with stress' effects of the abilify. but the effexor is still my main mood booster and the strattera is still my main anxiety damper.
my 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD. doctor put her on 25mg. strattera for a month and then up to 40mg. In 4 months she has lost 28lbs. she is down to 90 lbs. and is 5'6". She has excelled at school but now we are scared about her weight. doctor dropped her back down to 25mg. She has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep and has alot of anxiety. Therapist just labeled her anorexic. Is there anyway to get her appetite back and still take meds?

My doctor has me on welubturon 150mg, strattera 25mg and klonopin 1mg. The klonopin for sleep. I love the way the other two make me feel throughout the day. Focused, happy. However, I work for a gym and my physical abilities are very important as they are my job. Ever since I've started the strattera, I'm only able to give about 60% and I still feel flu'ish. Weak, sick, cold sweats. That's not me. They want me to try this for three weeks.
Adding this supplement has helped me (I am a social worker who is back in college for another degree- shocker!), but it did not help my brother (high schooler) who has much more severe ADHD. You know your child best, I would say to speak with your doctor, and just monitor your kids behavior over time. This may, however, have been a bad time to stop medications altogether because your child is just beginning a new grade- I would have waited myself, but again, you know your child best.
t seem to work for me, they make me extremely irritable and give me chest pains. Tried strattera but it made me extremely emotional, to the point of sobbing for no reason. My doctor put me on Buspar, 5 mg 2x a day to help with my ADHD...but I have not read any solid literature on Buspar and its effects on ADHD symptoms.
Is this a good drug to go on for ADHD? Has anyone else been on this drug for ADHD?
My son developed Raynard's Phenomen after taking Strattera. Weaning him down on the dosage reduced the symptoms. His hands otherwise where blue, white, and cold through out the day. He had a reaction from the stimulants and can not take them. HAs anyone used accupuncture for controlling ADD symptoms?
so for 20 years my doctor has prescribed me Xanax and leaxapro for social anxiety..... 20 years!!! Never once did I abuse my Xanax. I needed it I needed it to be me... Xanax was my morning pill to face the world for days at a time! I became addicted..:: obviously I was clueless after 20 years because I told my doctor they don't work they make me LAZY! So he took me off them::: I couldn't go a day! The withdrawl is so severe and last for ever !
So I've just recently become open with my social anxiety. I remember being in middle school and thinking that something was horribly wrong with me. I would get so nervouse around people. My body would tremble, my voice would shake and I couldn't think clearly. I've become more comfortable with being uncomfortable, and yes I do notice that there are plenty of people that are shy, but I really hate the fact that my real personality can't show when I'm around people.
