Common Questions and Answers about Stomach pain after nissen fundoplication

Avatar f tn Or is it possible that the dr looking at the xrays from the upper gi is mistaking scar tissue in the stomach from the nissen fundoplication with a large stomach ulcer? I am not discrediting the idea of there being an ulcer, I mean the signs match with what I have been feeling. I was worried that the ulcer was a side effect of the surgery I had less than a year ago. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar n tn what to do if you think your stomach became unwrapped after 1yr a nissen fundoplication
Avatar n tn Hello, Fundoplication is the name of the surgical method employed to treate hiatal hernia. During the Nissen fundoplication, the upper part of the stomach is wrapped around the LES to strengthen the sphincter, prevent acid reflux, and repair a hiatal hernia. The Nissen fundoplication may also be performed using a laparoscope. You can gain more information about this technique from the following website: http://digestive.niddk.nih.
Avatar n tn In January 2008 I had my gallbladder removed because I was having significant upper right abdomen pain. This pain would also radiate up to my chest area. After taking out my gallbladder I felt better for 2 weeks then the pain returned and I was having significant problems with my bowels obstructing. In March 2008 they took out my entire large colon. The doctors thought my problems were taken care of. Now I'm having significant abdominal bloating.
Avatar f tn I had a hiatus hernia repair with the Nissen Fundoplication operation about 10 months ago and I vomit allot after eating food as it get stuck and comes back up,having hard time eating.I need to have a revisional Hiatus repair and Nissen fundoplication in Feb 2012. Anyone had more than one operation and why?Is the operation worse the second time?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had any experience with multiple Nissen Fundoplication redos and them failing? I had my last Nissen redone 5 years ago this April and they also had to do a Wedge gastroplasty to lengthen my esophogas to prevent it from coming undone again. About 6-8 months ago I started having a lot of nausea especially after eating, acid reflux taste in my mouth, and this has progressed to epigastric stomach pain as well. My GI doc has me on Omeprazole, Ranitidine, and Amitriptaline.
Avatar f tn I am afraid of the pain, yuck. Also hoping there is no hospital stay with it. Were you able to get up and around after, how was eating?
Avatar m tn I had the TIF Transoral incisionless fundiplcation. And I too am in pain and have as much if not more heartburn/stomach pain than before. The first few months I was fine, but not any more. I don't recommend the surgery - I did at first. Am going to see my Gastroenterologist after the holidays. The surgeon only said, "Well. I can't do any more to help you." Sometimes fennel seems to help the pain or anise. But for the most part, I hurt after I eat.
Avatar n tn I have done my first Nissen fundoplication open surgery around 6 years ago. All was well in the first years till I was getting back heartburn sensations and besides that end of 2009 after gastroscopy and barium meal was found that one third of my stomach was again herniated and that I was loosing blood..infact was hospitalised with an hgb count of 6.7 last november and was given 4 packs transfusion. Today my hgb is already 9.5 so its getting down again.
Avatar f tn My primary care doctor got me referred to a large university facility several hrs away and I had my second fundoplication by laparoscope 4 months after the 1st. That surgeon is world reknown for these surgeries & I did really well for another 6-8 months and then started to have problems again. I was referred back to the same university surgeon and he scheduled my third procedure in 1998... this time it was an open procedure and I was in the hospital 12 days. I did well for 10 yrs.
Avatar m tn I had a laprascopic nissen fundoplication about 3 and a half months ago, I have had no heartburn back, but the problem now is I get terrible wind and I cant burp to save my life, and it is made 10x worse when I try and have a pint of alcohol, the pain is so severe it lasts about 2 to 3days and then slowly starts to die off, I rang the hospital and they think that the wrap might be to tight, and that I might need a second op to slacken the wrap! Iam totaly gutted to say the least!
Avatar m tn Does the stomach bloating go?Have the ability to vomit if required due to stomach issues?Does the stomach pains decrease. I had a nissen fundoplication for acid reflux however what I'm feeling and experiecing is worse than prior to having the operation, as its a living nightmare. I'm scheduled for the reversal this month however would like to know what experiences people have had with the reversal.
Avatar n tn I had laproscopic nissen fundoplication surgery two weeks ago. I currently have pain in my lower abdomen on my left side. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn My last doctor determined I had a hiatus hernia and needed a Nissen Fundoplication (stomach wrap). It took over a year to get to this diagnosis. I had the surgery and during recovery thought I was having a heart attack. The tightness and pain in my chest was severe. After being released from the hospital I had to take meds for the pain in my chest and was put on a strict diet. The first week was just fluids and each successive week more foods were added.
Avatar n tn My son had his first fundo done at 3 months it lasted without any major problems until he was 2 1/2. at that time he had to have a redo fundo and he has been upchucking for about 3 months. if any one has any answers, please help.
Avatar m tn I am considering Nissen Fundoplication to treat my reflux/regurgitation. Can you please let me know what is the success rate of this surgery and side effects.
Avatar f tn Smaller studies of Nissen versus Lind [12], Nissen versus Nissen-Rossetti [13] and Nissen versus Hill versus Belsey markIV fundoplication [14] have also failed to show any significant differences. In a non-randomized study of Nissen fundoplication, DeMeester et al. [15] noted that patients with normal LES characteristics on manometry preoperatively were more likely to suffer from gas bloat and flatus, as were those with upright reflux alone.
Avatar f tn I am a type I diabetic, status post nissen fundoplication years age and have recently begun having extremely painful stomach spasms. Sometimes it is mildly annoying, other times it feels like a knife has been plunged in the middle of my stomach and twisted. This pain is not in my esophagus and I do not have heartburn. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn 2 weeks post Nissen Fundoplication surgery, and in constant pain. I feel like someone has their hand around my esophagus and is pulling it down and standing on my chest at the same time. I have no difficulty eating, although my quantities are limited and bloating is a regular occurance. No major weight loss, but the pain as I described is impeding my everyday life... Can anyone offer me some suggestions, as I am taking Ibuprofen q4hrs.
Avatar f tn I have been hospitalized 3 times with severe stomach pain and unable to vomit with blockage and extreme gas. On Reglan with no relief and dont think i can take another nasogastric tube for a week in hospital for the fourth time. Thank You for your expert opinion on this matter.
Avatar n tn I had nissen fundoplication done 2 1/2 yrs ago. The surgery fixed the gerd problem, but created five other problems. I know have constant gas and stomach pains associated with gas in the intestines, I guess. If I eat before 11 or 12 in the morning, odds are I will have diarrea and this is usually very sudden and can not be controlled for long. My stomach now growls and grumbles very loudly and will do so even after eating.
Avatar f tn t swallow it i have to spit it out! Sorry to hear about the three nissen fundoplications, i hope the Belsey Fundoplication works for you. I can't have a nissen fundoplication done as the docs say my hiatus hernia is too small.
Avatar n tn I had a Nissen Fundoplication in 2000, and suffered most days with diarrhea for about 15 years. I started using a good probiotic and that has lessened the frequency of diarrheal episodes. Still have diarrhea sometimes, especially if I eat fruit or have other sugary things, but some relief is better than none. I also developed Fibromyalgia symptoms within two months after surgery.
