If you have a sore on your breast anywhere the a breast pump touches or where it can be drawn into the flange during
pumping, the baby can get infected from drinking the pumped milk. Herpes is not transmitted through
breast milk, but through the pus from an active lesion. Therefore you can transmit herpes when breast feeding by not taking precautions to keep the baby from coming into contact with the pus (such as by keeping a layer of clean clothes or towel between your baby and your skin).
