Avatar f tn Has anyone had any luck on the Slim-Fast diet? I just started it, I need to lose around 30lbs.
Avatar f tn Is it ok to drink slim fast while pregnant? I have gained too much weight so far. I started out tiny and now my mid section is huge! I'm not looking to lose weight but eating hurts. My lower back is in excruciating pain and I know it's from the weight gain and due to my belly sticking so far out. I'm only 25 weeks pregnant and I feel the only option is to eat tiny meals to keep up my energy because after I eat my stomach feels so tight b it just hurts.
Avatar f tn hi has any one done the slim fast diet----(milkshakes) and lost weight. How lond could u go on for? I'm planning to go on it but will do only one shake for dinner and have breakfast and lunch as normal.
Avatar n tn Being overweight does not mean that that is a cause of high cholesterol. I am very overweight at the moment and my bad cholesterol levels have never been high. I do eat a lot of fresh fruit, salads and vegetables. I do not eat a lot of red meat (but do love beef which we have as a special treat - mainly because beef is more expensive that other meat products). Best wishes.
10589445 tn?1411613911 s annual physical checkup came around and it was my turn to schedule my physical. One of the tests to be performed was a cholesterol test. The requirement was to fast for 12 hours prior. Well I decide to fast for 3 days. Literally nothing to eat for 3 days straight, taking in nothing but water. The physical was on my 3rd day of fasting. The doctor could even tell that I haven't eaten in days because the Xray showed my stomach had nothing but air in it. Then the blood test came.
Avatar n tn Increase your cardiovascular fitness by doing more exercise -- does not have to be strenuous exercise, but make sure you do so frequently and heart rate is above 100. 3. Watch your cholesterol, get a high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) checked -- according to the JUPITOR trial, IF your CRP is elevated, you could benefit from statins (e.g. rosuvastatin) even if you have "normal" cholesterol.
Avatar f tn Welcome to the community. Try walking at a reasonable pace. Also look into yoga as it's low impact and done at a slow very deliberate pace. Be sure to watch what you eat as well - might also help the e-coli infection.
Avatar f tn Follow your doctor's instructions! From what I read, there shouldn't be any repercussions health wise for your numbers and you cholesterol was really high before!
Avatar m tn If your cholesterol is still high, you should avoid the fatty food (though as far as I know, the Greek diet is high in unsaturated fat like olive oil?). If cholesterol levels are still high, you should talk to your doctor about medical treatment. Take the tests at 9.00 AM and avoid eating after 9.00 PM (a.k.a 21.00 European time). Not difficult at all :) Keep in mind, this is no acute danger, but find out if your cholesterol really is high, and if it is, do something about it.
Avatar n tn My total cholesterol was 548 2 months ago increased synthroid from 50 to 100 now cholesterol is 240 and we have increased synthroid to 125.No cholesterol pills just synthrois increase. Good Luck.My blood pressure is high as well. I have hypo with hashimoto's.
Avatar f tn t associate as being fruits, such as nuts (not peanuts, which are legumes) and seeds, which are high in protein but can also be high in fat. Though eating a moderate amount actually cuts cholesterol and might even lead to weight loss, calorie obsessed diets often exclude them. Squash is also a fruit, though we usually think of it as a vegetable, just as tomatoes are a fruit but many people think it's a vegetable.
Avatar f tn Yes of course, you are supposed to fast before a cholesterol lipid check, to make it accurate. Usually around 12 hours before the test you can only have sips of water.
Avatar m tn I'm 39. Not overweight. 6' 165 lbs. My diet does not consist of any fruits or veggies, and hasn't for about 20 years. I am used to being able to eat and drink whatever I want without any weight gain, and until now, bad blood tests. I do smoke when I drink, and occasionally I may have one during the week. When I do drink, I can put a few down. I also do not exercise. My tests came back as Cholesterol either 235 or 245, don't recall which. My good cholesterol was 53.
Avatar f tn No, I don't think it will affect kidney stones, but.. Slim fast has horrible ingredients, and I would not feed it to my dog. From their website, they list Hydrogenated soybean oil, High Fructose Corn syrup, etc. Soybean oil will make you fat, and so will high fructose corn syrup.Suffice to say, stay away from Slim Fast! Eat whole foods instead. At best, these drinks may cause rapid weight loss, but they are not healthy and usually the weight comes back later.
Avatar n tn In fasting for a Cholesterol test, what happens when blood sugar gets too low? Will 2 or 3 glucotablets ruin the test? My doctor insists on at least 3 hours fast before the blood test, if my glucose level is too low to drive safely it's a waste anyway. Does anyone have the answer? (I won't do an overnight fast, had problems at the lab last time with low blood sugar - my husband was driving - thank goodness).
Avatar m tn First off, I have not even suggested meds, I'm not sure where that comes from. The only point I'm making is based on the most recent information released. Based on recent studies it has been determined that our diets only account for 10% of our lipid levels therefore someone who needs to drop their lipids by 30% won't get there with changes in diet alone. This is a simple assumption as their current diet is already influencing their lipids.
425200 tn?1368741070 Your total is high because your good cholesterol levels are high, which is a good thing. You LDL or bad cholesterol is within normal ranges and I calculate your TGLs at 145 which is also good. Overall, very good numbers. I wouldn't get too excited with a slightly high total cholesterol along with a high HDL, normal LDL and TGL unless you have heart disease in which case you should have an LDL under 100. If you are otherwise in good health, these look good to me.
Avatar n tn man who has a high cholesterol level. Your weight may be discrepant with your diet and intake of saturated fat. 80% of our cholesterol comes from our food intake.I suspect that within 6 mo you could lower that total cholesterol with a diet consuming less than 35-40 total gms fat per day <15 gm saturated fat/ day. You would kill two birds with one stone.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your question. Your LDL (bad cholesterol) is pretty high. Your HDL (good cholesterol) is in the normal range. Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin).
