Avatar m tn I have been taking simvastatin for over 2 years to lower my cholesterol. I 've gained over 50 pounds, and I don't think the drug is doing what its supposed to do, I forgot to mention that, never before have I had "high blood-pressure" until now. I have stopped taking the drug in the hope that the pounds and the blood-pressure will return to "my" normal health state. My question is: what side affects or withdrawl symptoms should I expect?
Avatar f tn Twelve years ago when I had my first heart attack and started to walk as an aerobic exercise I would experience very strong calf pain, but continued exercise and a stronger statin coupled with a big weight loss eliminated the problem. Your symptoms, I think should merit additional tests. Keep us informed.
1423357 tn?1511085442 I just saw that this post was resurected from way back in March. Just after I posted this, I went on a as-little-carbs-as-possible lifestyle, reducing carbohydrate intake to less than 50 grams per day, usually under 30 grams per day. My A1C on March 21 was 7.3 When I tested again in early June, it had dropped to 5.8 I have also lost 21 pounds, and two waist sizes. Note that I said "lifestyle" and not "diet". I feel great, and yes.....
Avatar n tn I think they are in the same drug class, I've taken both with the similar results. As I recall, I was changed from lipitor to simvastatin because simvastatin isn't as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes.
Avatar m tn I also mentioned above that I dropped 90 pounds in just a few months. I have read that rapid weight loss leads to acidic urine, which can lead to stone formation. That was news to me. Rapid weight loss can also cause a drop in testosterone, which causes other problems (fatigue, diminished sex drive, osteoporosis. It's kind of ironic that trying to "get healthy" can cause its own problems.
Avatar m tn The use of simvastatin in the prevention of a malignant liver tumor according to the present invention contemplates the daily administration of an effective amount of simvastatin orally. An effective amount of simvastatin is that amount which provides a decrease in the level of alphafetoprotein to a normal level and which maintains alphafetoprotein at the normal level.
Avatar f tn Am experiencing shortness of breath, lightheadedness, arrythmias, and feeling very tired at times I have memory loss and confusion. I am on flecanide and metoporol. I had flu in October and also put on simvastatin symptoms of junctional rhythm started in same time frame. Do I have cardiomyopathy? And how serious is all this. Ep showed great arteries and I've stopped simvastatin as I thought this might be the problem with junctional rhythm.

Avatar n tn My father is 83 yrs old, in excellent health (only takes 40mg of simvastatin a day). While in the the Navy he was responsibilty for overseeing the cannons on ship, and as a result has had some hearing loss ever since. About 20 yrs ago he finally got hearing aids and was able to hear much better. But then about 6 mos ago he got up one morning and could not hear at all in his left ear. He went to the doctor right away and was told that he had "sudden hearing loss".
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
Avatar m tn curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
