Avatar n tn t as strong a statin because of some very strong congestive heart meds that impact the liver and kidneys. Factors that can change liver functions include weight gain, alcohol consumption, exercise levels and diet, so it takes a health professional, which I'm not, to ferret out cause for blood test changes. Also, a two week hx is probably not an accurate time factor, usually 90 days is needed to see how drug changes will impact results.

I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar m tn I have been taking simvastatin for over 2 years to lower my cholesterol. I 've gained over 50 pounds, and I don't think the drug is doing what its supposed to do, I forgot to mention that, never before have I had "high blood-pressure" until now. I see Celebrex for pain in joints, Levothyroxin for thyroid?, and I know that Prozac (which causes complete disinterest in sex...been there got rid of that one) for your anxiety.

Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin.

Avatar m tn I'd suggest you work through the pain, lift some weights, it could be simply a buildup of lactic acids from inactivity based on fear from taking the statin. If, after exercising, pain isn't muscular, you should contact your doctor, but it certainly doesn't sound like a matter to go to the emergency room. I'm betting 75% of all people at an age where they are taking statins have muscle pains.

Avatar f tn Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
