My doctor wanted me to not start them both at the same time so that I can see, if any, side effects Sim will have - and once I start the Lisinopril, I can see what different, if any, side effects both pills could have.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your question. Your LDL (bad cholesterol) is pretty high. Your HDL (good cholesterol) is in the normal range. Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin).
Avatar m tn Hi, As remar has advised, you need to continue the medication along with a medication for blood pressure, as high cholesterol with high BP is a bad combination. As regards gaining weight, you need to look at your calorie intake, reduce it and do regular exercise. Also avoid taking high cholesterol food.If your food consists of more carbohydrate, replace part of it with protein while reducing the overall calorie intake.

Avatar f tn There was a study done with 550 people in 1993, that looked at the differences in treatment with simvastatin versus pravastatin. Avatar m tn Next door in HCV forum, the opinion is that HCV patients with high viral load in general have lowered cholesterol level, and those with high levels have better treatment response. I guess that makes sense. because if cholesterol level is inversely correlated with viral load, the higher the cholesterol level, thus the lower the viral load, the better the treatment efficacy.
Avatar m tn I started when a cardiologist put me on simvastatin and crestor for a cholesterol level of 225. She advised I would have to take them for the rest of my life. I thought that was kind of aggressive at the time. My level was brought down to 160. My internist who I have been seeing for three years questioned me about my family history. My dad had angina at 57 but had low cholesterol, while my mom had over 300 cholesterol but never developed any heart problems. Neither died from heart problems.

Avatar f tn I'm 62, and after being diagnosed with "high cholesterol about 12 years ago, I've been on simvastatin (20mg). This has always been an entirely "preventative" measure. No heart disease, I'm skinny (120lbs), don't smoke, hardly drink. Get exercize. I'd love to stop taking the statin given the data on possible muscle damage and cognitive issues. Without taking the statin my recent numbers are HDL 63, LDL 152, overall 235, with a ratio of 3.7.

Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
