961503 tn?1247059639 I have been prescribed Simvastatin 40 MG and Lisinopril 10 MG for high cholesterol and high blood pressure (1 pill each every day) - I'm on my 2nd day of Simvastatin and will be taking Lisinopril on thursday. My doctor wanted me to not start them both at the same time so that I can see, if any, side effects Sim will have - and once I start the Lisinopril, I can see what different, if any, side effects both pills could have.
Avatar m tn Simvastatin has been wdely used by members on this forum including myself. Took it for a few months but not currently taking it at the moment. So yes,Simvastatin, and overall a very healthy diet!!!!
Avatar f tn In most cases side effects can be managed with changes to dosage. Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar m tn I've been taking 80 mg simvastatin daily for the last 8 years, will tis be tha cause of an elevated GGT reading of over 350?
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar f tn The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage. Most doctors have backed off of the 80 mg dosage as a result. I have been on 40 mg for years and it has worked great for me with no issues. Your husband needs to address this concern with his doctor. He needs to understand why there was a change in treatment.
Avatar m tn Hi, As remar has advised, you need to continue the medication along with a medication for blood pressure, as high cholesterol with high BP is a bad combination. As regards gaining weight, you need to look at your calorie intake, reduce it and do regular exercise. Also avoid taking high cholesterol food.If your food consists of more carbohydrate, replace part of it with protein while reducing the overall calorie intake.
Avatar m tn I also have both high cholesterol and high blood pressure. For me, they are not related. I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
382218 tn?1341181487 I take Simvastatin for high cholesterol. It has greatly improved my levels. It would be great if it helped other things!
Avatar m tn In one embodiment, the method comprises administrating an effective amount of simvastatin to patients showing elevated alphafetoprotein levels. In another embodiment, the method comprises administrating simvastatin to patients upon detection of a liver condition, i.e viral Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and liver cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn Can medications to lower high chlorestorol damage your liver, I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease now and I am afraid to take statin drugs. How important is my concern. Simvastatin is one in particular.

Avatar n tn I have been taking simvastatin 10 mg per day for 5 years. On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar f tn I'm 62, and after being diagnosed with "high cholesterol about 12 years ago, I've been on simvastatin (20mg). This has always been an entirely "preventative" measure. No heart disease, I'm skinny (120lbs), don't smoke, hardly drink. Get exercize. I'd love to stop taking the statin given the data on possible muscle damage and cognitive issues. Without taking the statin my recent numbers are HDL 63, LDL 152, overall 235, with a ratio of 3.7.
Avatar n tn I was on simvastatin also and my cpk was high and getting higher and they took me off immediatly. as I understand it all statins have the potential to cause cpk to rise. you may want to stop taking it. check w/ your Dr.
428155 tn?1203688894 in New Zealand), which my GP had prescribed me 2 years beforehand to control my cholesterol level. I stopped simvastatin and all fibrillations have disappeared. As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar m tn Stef, many thanks. Another question pls: I'm looking at beginning anti-viral. I have spoken with ROCHE guys in Nigeria and they are talking about what they call PEGASYS(If I get the the spelling, we spoke on phone) Now, what do you know about this anti-viral? Simvastatin doesn't appear available in Nigeria.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your question. Your LDL (bad cholesterol) is pretty high. Your HDL (good cholesterol) is in the normal range. Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin).
1579934 tn?1431268911 s hepatologist about it, but reception was lukewarm. My husband was already on simvastatin for high cholesterol, but docs were hesitant to switch him because he was doing well, so I consoled myself to the fact that at least simvastatin seemed the 2nd best statin. Since then, though, there has been a lot more support as Bill points out above, and if you search the archives, you'll find lots of good data, though I can't say if I recall any one individual using it and reporting it here.
Avatar m tn Hope you can help.... I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. I take metformin for the diabetes and simvastatin for the cholesterol. Recently, (just the last few days), my ears have steadily grown in "fullness". It happens mainly at night when I lay down to sleep. Most times I just fall asleep and wake up fine.
