My doctor monitors my numbers every 4 months - cholesterol,glucose,etc, blood pressure. My blood glucose slowly rose over a period of years until it got to the point where my doctor said we have to do something. I am in my late forties and athletic and I don't eat much junk, never drink soda or eat cake or cookies.

In the past 6 months, besides rapid weight loss, I also experienced fatigue, weakness, cold feet, dizziness, sudden drop of blood pressure, increased thirst and trips to restroom, low grade fever on and off with left side abdominal pain. My doc thought I had UTI and ulcer b/c my urine/blood test show staph and h pylori infections. Two months ago, my fasting glucose was 92 (normsl). However, I also heard that you may still have high blood sugar even though the fasting level is normal.

I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. I was on simvastatin also and my cpk was high and getting higher and they took me off immediatly. as I understand it all statins have the potential to cause cpk to rise. you may want to stop taking it. check w/ your Dr.

(I was on HCTZ, however, it caused me to have a skin reaction from the sun so my doctor switched me to Spironolactone), Simvastatin 10 mg. and Synthroid 50 mcg. i have been taking tri-cor and simvastatin (40mg) for several years. Over the last 8 months i stopped taking the tri-cor because insurance no longer covered it and I decreased my simvastatin to 20mg. At the same time in increased my fiber significantly (metemucil and high fiber cereal daily) and began taking one 1000mg of fish oil each day. In some people, diet makes no difference whatsoever. The Liver can make its own fat molecules and send them into the blood inside lipoproteins. I think if you haven't had a problem in 15 years, it would be wise to probably stay on them. Who can say if they have prevented more serious problems or not, but is it worth the risk to find out? What if you stop them and your arteries develop plaque? Just my opinion, but maybe someone else will have their input.

I have been prescribed Simvastatin 40 MG and Lisinopril 10 MG for high cholesterol and high blood pressure (1 pill each every day) - I'm on my 2nd day of Simvastatin and will be taking Lisinopril on thursday. My doctor wanted me to not start them both at the same time so that I can see, if any, side effects Sim will have - and once I start the Lisinopril, I can see what different, if any, side effects both pills could have.

My cholesterol and blood pressure dropped into the normal range and I got off the Lescol and BP meds. Have kept up the same way of eating and have maintained my weight loss with little effor. Might want to try it.
